24.01.2022 THIS WEEKS THEME: FIND YOUR INNER WARRIOR FOCUS: Standing & Balancing Poses - The Three Warriors. Resilience is the ability to recover from, or easily adjust to, change or misfortune. Resilience, at its most basic level, is what enables us to survive the accumulated losses, transitions, and heartbreaks of life, but there is also a deeper kind of resilience that transcends basic survival, to use a crisis as a catalyst for personal and spiritual growth. This requires certain ...personality traits, but also the ability to calm and focus the mind. Yoga not only supports the development of the above, but the teachings of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali also give us Kriya Yoga - the yoga of transformative action: Through Tapas (discipline); Svadhyaya (self-study) and Isvara pranidhana (surrender to a higher reality) we might not only overcome adversity, but also transform our suffering into loving awareness. When we connect to that which we truly are, we discover that we are unbreakable. This pose is Warrior III - the balancing pose on the summit of Serra dos Órgãos in Brazil. 24.01.2022 As the end of 2020 approaches we can expect there to be certain transitions. Endings and beginnings are part of life. It is how we respond to change which determines our experience. Taking the plunge and moving forward through uncertainty can seem daunting, but it may be helpful to remember that change brings a whole new set of possibilities as well as problems, and without embracing change we may never discover what those possibilities might be.

21.01.2022 How are you supporting your best life: sleeping well, choosing nutritious food, drinking at least 1.5l of water and moving your body every day? These are all baseline actions to support your ability to remain healthy and vital.

18.01.2022 THEME: CULTIVATING ALIGNMENT FOR BALANCE The standing balances and other weight bearing poses develop confidence, tone muscles, and build bone density. Correct and precise alignment of the joints and bones helps to bring a weightlessness to these asana, reducing the amount of effort required to hold them, and allowing for a sense of joy in performing them.... Our BEGINNER CLASS students will be exploring basic alignment in the standing balances and introduced to supported inversions. The GENERAL CLASSES will be working through an invigorating sequence of standing balances, supported hand balances and inversions. Saturday morning EXPERIENCED CLASS will take the form of a LED PRACTICE - we will be attempting a sequence of unsupported standing, inverted and hand balancing to challenge and push the boundaries!

18.01.2022 THEME: EVERYTHING CHANGES - BEING OPEN TO THE NEW. How do you manage the changing tides of life? Why do we resist change?... - Fear of the unknown - Attachment to the "old and familiar" - Lack of trust - a change in the status quo may diminish our sense of freedom and control - We're creatures of habit - we love our routines - We're tired and overwhelmed already and doing things differently requires attention and effort

15.01.2022 This week our focus is chest opening and backward extensions. Everyone has their own reason for showing up on the mat every week. For some the practice is about working the body, improving strength , flexibility and technique; for others the relaxation aspect of yoga is more important , and for others still, it may be a spiritual pursuit with the intention to develop their consciousness. There are many reasons to practice yoga, but there is one outcome that appears to me to... be unavoidable: it is a journey to the self - over the past week I had a humbling experience to remind me of this. One of my teachers reminded me: Yoga has nothing to do with escaping our moods, ourselves, or the world around us; it’s about seeing whatever is present with clarity, befriending it, and discovering peace in the process. So we might think that turning up on the mat is an opportunity to get away from ourselves, but of course, in practicing yoga and developing awareness, we are only getting closer to ourselves and seeing our own minds and bodies more clearly not only the pleasant or admirable things, but also the challenging things. We might not want to face some aspects of ourselves, but unless we spend time with them, how else are we going to understand them? This reminded me anew to approach with deep respect and compassion the journey that each of us are on. Namaste

08.01.2022 WEEKLY THEME: THEME: BE GENTLE WITH YOURSELF The yogic principle of AHIMSA (non-violence/harming) finds practical application both on the mat and out in the world. How we treat our bodies on the mat is a reflection of how we treat ourselves in daily life. Do we sometimes push ourselves too hard - ego dictating how we practice - or deny ourselves a moment of peace by filling every hour in our schedule and responding to every beep on our mobiles? How often do we simply ign...ore our body/mind/heart's requests (and sometimes desperate cries for attention) completely? What could you do right now to respond to a need of your body/mind/heart with a little tenderness? How can we add a little AHIMSA to our yoga practice and our lives? See more

08.01.2022 STOP BEFORE YOU START - Bring balance to your body breath and mind as you begin your day. How often do we begin the day running? Are you on your phone checking emails or your calendar even before you have gotten out of bed? This week take a moment to STOP before you start your day. Try upon waking to simply stay in bed for a moment longer; take a few deep breaths (with your eyes open) and get a sense of how you feel in your body. Pay attention to the feedback you receive and ...let it inform your next action. OUR WEEKLY THEME: GRACEFUL TRANSITIONS FOCUS: Exploring graceful transitions in standing poses and forward bends
