20.01.2022 ANZAC Day, April 25, is one of the most important dates on the Australian calendar, a day of remembrance of service and sacrifice. In ordinary times, commemorative services are held at dawn across the nation, followed later in the day by ex-servicemen and women meeting to take part in marches through the major cities and in many smaller centres. But these are extraordinary times with world-wide COVID-19 health restrictions and public health is paramount.... Remembrance of service and sacrifice is important to our society. You may choose to pay respects in your own way by: * Remembering from within your home * Viewing or listening to media broadcasts and online coverage We will always remember the dedication, commitment, and sacrifice of our Defence Forces, past and present. Lest We Forget

18.01.2022 Meet Tom Percasky who joined Sinai College in March, 2016. What makes you feel accomplished?... I feel accomplished watching my students develop their leadership and independence. Watching them work together to complete a task while developing co-operation and communication skills is very satisfying. On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with my family and seeing my boys grow. I'm a new dad to twin boys Beau and Jai who are 10 months old. I enjoy the outdoors. I try to get away on the weekends to go camping and enjoys fishing, surfing and relaxing by the water. What is the best thing about working at Sinai College? Our small class sizes mean that we can get to know the students and families really well. I think these close bonds are important. We also have a real community feel. I like that aspect. What is your favourite food? I enjoy cooking, particularly on the BBQ. Do you have any hidden talents? I play the guitar. I am fairly sporty and can play most sports. I grew up playing several different sports. He played rugby union for over 25 years More about Tom go to : https://sinaicollege.qld.edu.au/member/thomas-tom-percasky/

17.01.2022 On the fifth day of the Hebrew month of Iyar, Israeli communities worldwide celebrate their Independence Day, known locally as Yom Ha’atzmaut. Today’s Sinai College pays tribute to this annual holiday in recognition of the day in 1948 when the State of Israel declared its independence. The flag of Israel features two blue stripes running horizontally over the white background with the Star of David at its center. Officially adopted in 1948, the same year as independence, the... flag will be waved proudly wherever Israeli’s call home. Sinai College teachers proudly decorated our front entrance to our school and the children wore white and blue to celebrate. Happy Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel!

14.01.2022 Hope everyone enjoys their time off school. Looking forward to seeing you next term.

07.01.2022 Fun Facts about Melissa Canning our Year 2 and 3 teacher A little bit about me I’ve always had a passion for children and for learning, so I decided upon a career where I could merge both of my passions. I started my tertiary learning journey in South Africa at the University of Johannesburg with a Bachelors in Child and Family Psychology. I then moved with family across to New Zealand where I completed my Graduate Diploma of Teaching at Auckland University. A few years late...r I completed my Masters in Educational Psychology at Massey University. Since completing my Masters I have engaged in a wide variety of further learning, such a Growth Mindset coaching and SPELD assessor training. I am a strong believer in continuously growing and developing oneself and strive to pass this passion for learning on to the students in my class. Whilst studying I have also been either a classroom teacher or a specialist resource teacher of learning and behavior. With teaching experience ranging from prep through to year 6. As a professional, I feel most accomplished when I know I have done my job to the best of my ability, which to me is evidenced in children who are happy and enthusiastic about their learning and are achieving to the best of their abilities. One of the things I love about working at Sinai College is our ability to integrate Jewish learning and culture throughout all curriculum areas. We have a fantastic and collaborative teaching staff, who strive to provide students with a quality Jewish education and it’s a privilege to be a participant in this. I love that we are a small, connected school, where as a teacher I am able to make personal connections with every child in the school. Having worked across many different school settings in a few different countries, I am very much aware of how unique and special our school is, from the committed and supportive school board, the fantastic administration and teaching staff to the involved parents and most importantly the phenomenal students we have the pleasure of teaching. In my free time, I enjoy relaxing with a good novel, preferably on a beach, but the couch does nicely too. I enjoy traveling and exploring and will often be off exploring new beaches and quaint little towns (most places in Australia are new to me). I have a strong love of coffee and enjoy doing some baking to go along with it. For more information about me, click on my link below: https://sinaicollege.qld.edu.au/member/melissa-canning/

05.01.2022 Kol Nidrei 2020/5781 Appeal in support of Sinai College. Sinai College has been educating the Brisbane and Gold Coast Jewish communities for the past 30 years. The College has educated a generation of young people, many of whom are now an integral part of the community and have taken up leadership roles in both Queensland and the wider Jewish Community. Our community needs a Jewish Day school. Without a Jewish Day school, it is hard for a community to grow strong in Jewish ...Values. The children at Sinai College learn to love and enjoy their Jewish heritage, inspiring them to continue with Jewish traditions and become active members of the community. At Sinai College we are in our fourth year of delivery of the International Primary Curriculum, which together with our Jewish Studies program look to foster a lifelong passion for learning and international mindedness, preparing our children with 21st century skills. If you would like to enrol your child for 2021 or know of anyone who would be interested, please contact us at 07 3349-9088 or email [email protected] In order for Sinai College to effectively keep running and providing a Jewish and Hebrew education for our students which encompasses the values, spirits and hearts of our children thriving, would you please consider kindly donating funds that are much appreciated and needed. We would like to wish you and your family a healthy, happy and prosperous 5781 year. https://sinaicollege.qld.edu.au/our-community/donations/

05.01.2022 Fun facts all about our Prep and Year 1 teacher: Louise Canning I love spending time with my family and watching my two beautiful grandchildren develop and grow. Exploring new beaches, walking, swimming, reading and watching good movies are my relaxation tools. I enjoy new challenges and learning more about this beautiful country I now get to call home! What makes you feel accomplished?... The look on a child’s face when they realise they can actually read and write. The words I can do it!’ is such an accomplishment for them and the beginning of a love for learning and the opening of a new and exciting world of knowledge. Watching the pupils entrusted into my care develop holistically into unique individuals, accepting their own individual strengths and challenges is incredibly rewarding. What is the best thing about working at Sinai College? The children, families and staff make Sinai the unique and wonderful place it is! Our small class sizes allow us to nurture each child and create a learning environment in which teaching is differentiated to best suit the needs of individual pupils. Our values based education is the stepping stone to creating well balanced, caring and empathetic young people. Sinai College is a family! What is your favourite food? In true South African style, I love a good ‘braai’ (BBQ) with all the traditional sides. I also enjoy a good pasta, pizza, ice-cream and jelly babies! Do you have any hidden talents? I was a Provincial fencer in my youth and swam, played hockey and netball throughout my school career. My love and enjoyment of calligraphy.
