21.01.2022 Was terrific today catching up with Peter Crimmins' lovely sister-in-law, Lyn Truscott. Lyn & all of Gwen's family - parents Peter & Ivy Blum & siblings Geoff, ...June & Jan - shared many special times together with Peter & Gwen over the years. Then, in the couple's hour of need, when Peter asked to spend his final weeks at home rather than hospital, it was Lyn who nursed him to the end. "I decided I would go over and stay there to nurse him, because he didn't want to die in hospital," Lyn told me. "I said, 'You don't have to, Peter, I'm here.' He never, ever complained. I can remember one time trying to give him a Panadol and he said, 'No, don't worry about that, I'll be right.' He wouldn't take anything." Peter required four-hourly injections, which required Lyn getting up through the night; a task all the more exhausting given she had recently given birth to her first son, Marcus. "I'd be sleeping because I had a new baby, but was happy to get up when Peter needed another injection. But he would never wake me to have one, even if he was lying there in pain; not until he heard me get up to feed Marcus. I don't know how long he would lay there, but he was just so courageous to the end. They called him 'Courageous Crimmins' & he really, really was." On Lyn's left wrist all these years later is a special piece of jewellery. "Just before he died, Peter said to Gwen, 'I want you to take my pay packet & buy Lyn something special.' It's certainly something special: a beautiful gold bracelet which I look at all the time."
