25.01.2022 School holidays (and a long weekend which I actually forgot about) brings so much joy in our house. The small business, working from home juggle is ever present but this time round I’ve opted for half days work and half days play. It seems to be working. The days are packed with play dates, swimming, and filling orders. Orders are taking alittle longer to process, my anxiety around this is still there but I think I’m managing it better these days. Oh to be a Virgo perfectio...nist and small business owner. Sometimes I’m my own worst enemy. This is a random question but I’m interested. Who out there has a thermomix? I’ve never seriously considered buying one but I had great strawberry/blueberry soft ice yesterday, made in minutes. It totally impressed me so tell me, if you have one are they worth the large investment? Do you use it daily, what is it great to use for? Are there any other units/alternatives out there that are better? #eternallygrateful #knowyourproducer #cheeseandwine #workingfromhome #smallbusiness #SingingMagpieProduce #schoolholidays #countrystyleloves #myopenkitchenstories

19.01.2022 It’s fair to say the Monash Heward’s are known for their cheeky smiles. This is a photo taken by the lovely Shady Baker when we did some pecan baking for Graziher In the background in Jack’s (AAH) A model Ford (circa 1920s). Jack, our Poppa first settled in the Riverland, after returning from the war, and started planting our family orchard in 1921. ... So next year its both the Centenary of our family orchard and our little town of Monash. We are planning a very large multicultural Community feast, (amongst a range of community activities) affectionately called ‘The Monash Shindig. There will be food, wine, music, of course. I’ve been pretty focussed on the Monash township festivities but in the back of my mind I’ve been thinking about our own family orchard celebrations. I’d love to hear any suggestions from you? How could we make 2021 magnificent, a celebration of 100 years of our family orchard and growing fruit in our little patch of the world. And GALAH I so need to write that brief. #australianmade #knowyourproducer #hewardorchards #singingmagpieproduce #producetoyou #straighttothesource #seesouthaustralia #myriverland

19.01.2022 Look out Riverland Wine & Food Festival 2020 there is a new cellar door in town.. more specifically Monash. A huge congratulations to Bruce Heward and Leah Sahb your cellar door looks amazing and can’t wait for the opening this weekend. FYI bookings are essential due to COVID restrictions. PS we might even have some Singing Magpie chocolate goodies and sun dried fruit available to match with your drinks (checkout our stories)

15.01.2022 The ugg boots are back on, I almost put on the fire. We might just be staggering to the start of school holidays ... one more day to no more school lunches for two weeks but that quarterly juggle of business versus family. On a great note (well if you love figs that have been marinating in sticky quince syrup for months) STICKY QUINCE FIGS are back - there are 50 jars up for grabs on the website. Take it as pre - Christmas preparation. There will be more. xxx... #knowyourproducer #delicious #singingmagpieproduce #adelaideloves #stickyquincefigs

15.01.2022 The flies are beating the door down. The chooks are sitting under the sprinkler cooling themselves in the red mineral dirt and Summer is here. It’s a mere 40 degrees today but by the end of the week it’s going to be tipping 43- I think that’s almost my limit. But you know the evaporative is doing a great job, Spotify Christmas playlists are keeping us happy and mangoes/cherries/stone fruit are in season. ... What more could you ask for. We had mango popsicles for breakfast, a Jamie Oliver favourite. Simply blend: 3 mangoes (also made a strawberry/dried fig combo) 1 cup (or more) natural yoghurt 1/2 cup rolled oats 2 tspn honey 1/2 tspn vanilla paste Then spoon into your icecream moulds and freeze. My moulds are from Amazon.com and donna hay. Once they have frozen you can also pop them out of the metal frame and store in their covers in the freezer (saves a whole lot of space). #christmas #summer #popsicles #australianbush #figs #knowyourproducer #singingmagpieproduce #myriverland #icecream #summer #foodblogger #mango

11.01.2022 Almost a week ago I professed I had this school holiday juggle down pat- 1/2 days working 1/2 days playing. Well I was kidding myself and thankyou to all those play dates in the last few days to save all of our sanities. In what seems like an (welcome) avalanche we have just finished packing 1000 products- bags, boxes, jars. My Mum, the champion is the master of label application and the best-before gun. ... I’ve upped our new bag order to 5000 which blows my mind, and next there is some more labels to be printed. It feels like the Christmas rush is already at our door. For everyone on our MAILING LIST we will be running a Christmas special just for you. Definitely the best specials for the year. I want to make sure you get your Christmas orders this year, I know people missed out last year. I’m trying to be alittle bit better prepared than last year. If you are not on our mailing list this is definitely the time to jump on. https://singingmagpieproduce.us14.list-manage.com/subscribe #eternallygrateful #buyfromthebush #knowyourproducer #giftbox #australiandriedfruit #SingingMagpieProduce #figs #countrystyleloves #delicious

08.01.2022 My giddy aunt, fig harvest is just a few weeks away. While it’s a joyous moment when I get to sink my teeth into the fig of the season, I’m the first to admit it’s been a tumultuous year. Brain and body draining. I’ve decided to close our online orders for now (with quite a bit of trepidation). A lot of Christmas orders have come through and we want to be able to manage these the best we can... and dispatch on days when it’s not 40 degrees (today). ... We may open again for one last burst of Christmas shopping at the start of December, depending on how we go packing the orders already in the system. So sorry if you haven’t got your order in but keep watching our website or send me an email I’ll add you to the wait list. 05.01.2022 I have to be totally honest there hasn’t been much baking or cooking of late, we are a bit flat-out. Subsequently there are four dozen eggs in the fridge, a jug full of lime juice I squeezed a week ago, a couple of lamb racks and a bag of mulberries. Nor have I started soaking the dried fruit mix for Christmas cakes and the tomato seeds aren’t planted yet. In these circumstances I wish I had a personal baker/cook to set me straight. I’m thinking Local is Lovely’s glori...ous snacking cake to use up some eggs and the mulberries (the recipe is in Sophie’s blog about a year ago I think) which we all still rave about. And TheShadyBaker pecan crusted lamb chops (the recipe is in Graziher Autumn edition) are one of my all time favourites. In my defence I did use up the wild quandongs I picked. Warndu has a sensational fig and quandong relish recipe. I substituted fresh figs with our black Genoa dried figs. Bloody hell its tangy, figgy sweet with a gorgeous mix of slow cooked onion throughout. We are inundated with radicchio in the veggie garden. I pan fried the radicchio and silverbeet leaves/stalks, folded the relish through and served in with gnocchi (sorry phone was flat so no pictures). We’ve eaten radicchio for dinner three times this week, I’m totally hooked. And all the while my stress head is unfounded because the tomatoes (and basil) are self seeding everywhere. Phew. Just quietly if you haven’t already noticed the sticky quince syrup is up in the website now as a pre-order and our Christmas giftboxes. Our first syrup batch is already half sold, so get cracking www.singingmagpieproduce.com.au//sticky-quince-syrup-340g- #makeitdelicious #cookbooks #myopenkitchen #graziher #smallbusiness #baking #stickyquincesyrup #singingmagpieproduce #remembertobreathe #knowyourproducer #thankyou

05.01.2022 It’s fair to say growing and sun drying fruit is in my blood - four generations worth. But this food manufacturing business is relatively new to me. Fundamental to our business is minimising waste and carving a way to use every piece of fruit we grow....Enter our newest product Sticky Quince Syrup. A by-product of our Smyrna sun dried quince is a quince liquid which once we cooked for another six (plus) hours, becomes a decadent sticky syrup. For a couple years we have been... working on process to perfect this syrup, to be able to bring it to you. Well now we are here. I’m very grateful to our manufacturing partner for making it happen. There are two words to describe this syrup - indulgent and versatile. This rich and moreish syrup pairs perfectly with roast duck and pork. It can also be used as the base flavour of ice-cream or served on a cheese board. And one of my favourite things, add the syrup when making your salad vinaigrette to take it to another level. So now I’ve pumped up this new product but the thing is, we opened pre-orders and have sold out of our 340g bottles (we do still have wholesale food service tubs available) before even getting to Christmas, thanks to all your support. I’m considering the potential- should I push the boundaries and try and get another batch made by early December? Would you be interested in ordering more? #stickyquincesyrup #knowyourproducer #singingmagpieproduce #straighttothesource #myopenkitchenstories #makeitdelicious #producetoyou #buyfromthebush #eatlocalsa

03.01.2022 The first cherries for the season and our Christmas tree is half up. It bloody just makes me smile. Today the forecast is for 42 degrees and a strong north wind. That kind off day sees us inside with the AC going, but it does mean the Christmas lights will make it in the Christmas tree this year and I might even get to fold our laundry that has slowly caused a clothes avalanche in the corridor. Plus we can eat cherries, make yoghurt berry icy poles and catchup on Christmas ...movies (PSA the new season of The Crown starts today). We will be back packing orders on Monday, this time of the year it’s a juggle to dispatch the chocolate goodies but we usually make it through. I’ve been collecting everyone’s detail who have asked to be on the waitlist for more orders. Hopefully we will be able to open the shop briefly again before Christmas but we will see how long it takes to get through our current orders. I’ve just done some Christmas shopping Tilly's Table Buyfromthebush Target Alexandrina Cheese Company The Body Shop Scholastic Parents Now I need to revisit my list. How is yours going? 02.01.2022 Five months on and our kitchen garden we planted in the first COVID lockdown is booming (see last pictures for before photos). The silverbeet, rainbow chard and spinach are particularly sensational (scroll through the pictures). The raised beds we built out of old sweat boxes are working well, drainage is alittle slow in one but I’m loathed to alter this given Summer is coming. 13 mm of rain yesterday makes it all look even greater. I know, still small amounts of rain compar...ed to what others have received but every millimetre counts in this dry land. I’m even feeling positive about our front yard. Actually we don’t have a front garden as such. We moved into our house 1 1/2 yrs, the garden had died, the previous owners knew they were going to move and drought put watering out of touch. So today we are going to plant it up... a definite sign of optimism that the drought will finish soon. #growyourownfood #ediblegarden #permaculture #myriverland #singingmagpieproduce

01.01.2022 The joy of a backyard veggie garden, no matter how big or small, is just sensational. Spring I love you. Well except that I’m avoiding all those weeds and I haven’t planted any seeds yet. What is on your list the plant? I’d love your favourite varieties of summer veggies. ... My tip - definitely plant Pink Oxheart and King of Siberia tomatoes seeds if you can find them. #backyardgarden #knowyourproducer #Spring #myopenkitchenstories #SingingMagpieProduce #tomato #f52grams #foodblogger #growwhatyoueat
