24.01.2022 BREAKING: Queensland school students will learn at home for the first five weeks of Term 2, with schools only open for the children of essential workers. The mo...ve to the home-based learning model starts on Monday, 20 April and will be in place until at least Friday, 22 May. All students who can learn from home are to stay at home. School staff, unless they are vulnerable due to medical conditions, will continue to teach from the classroom to ensure continuity of learning for students. Children of essential workers and vulnerable children can continue to attend school. This is another very difficult decision, but it is the right one for Queensland while we continue to slow the spread of COVID-19. #coronavirusaustralia

23.01.2022 Your actions will save lives. This is why its important to stay home:

23.01.2022 At 6am on ANZAC Day musicians everywhere are being called on to take to their front yards to play the Last Post. A grassroots campaign for Australians to comme...morate Anzac Day at dawn in their driveways is gathering momentum across the country. With traditional services and marches cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, RSL branches in every state have unanimously endorsed the gesture, with families across the nation expected to stand at their gates, on balconies or verandahs at 6am on Saturday April 25. Please join us and the rest of Australia in this special moment to remember all those who have served and sacrificed for this nation. We may not be able to stand together as we usually would, but we can still stand united in spirit. Anyone interested should download the sheet music, start practising and notify their neighbourhood via a letterbox drop. http://musicformateship.org/ #MusicforMateship #ANZACDAY #drivewaytribute #lastpost #Minutesilence #COVID19 #isolatedbutunited

17.01.2022 Cuboree2020 POSTPONED until September2021 The current COVID-19 pandemic that has caused such sweeping changes to the way events are being run has meant that man...y people are facing an uncertain future. The timing for Cuboree2020 put's it at quite a risky time for restrictions to be lifted and for people to be ready to return to such events. As a result the Cuboree Executive Committee is announcing the Cuboree2020 is not going to be able to go ahead in the September 2020 school holidays. Instead, we are going to offer: Cuboree2020 to be postponed until Cuboree2021 in the September school holidays of 2021 A special, one off, Scuboree sub camp for younger scouts who would have been able to attend Cuboree2020, but will be too old for 2021. 15.01.2022 Bush Blitz (one of Earthwatch's partnership programs) are excited to be launching a virtual Bush Blitz called "Backyard Species Discovery" very soon! This will... be a citizen science project (and April is citizen science month!), and will aim to encourage everyone to explore what species exist in their own backyards. Groups such as schools or classes will be able to compete against each other to find the most species, and scientists will be engaging in discussions as well as helping with identification. This project will hopefully provide teachers around Australia in this difficult time with a fun and remote classroom activity for their students. It will also include supporting instructional and educational videos; as well as related classroom activities and lesson plans. STAY TUNED! 11.01.2022 Mud World Cancelled: due to the severity of the drought conditions in QLD we have decided, with heavy hearts, to cancel this years Mud World event which was go...ing to take place on October 5 and 6 at Samford, Brisbane. All ticket purchases, including purchasing fees, will be refunded and visible on your statement within 5 10 days. This was not a decision taken lightly, but morally we could not move forward with a water based event given the current conditions around QLD. Nature Play QLD will be making a donation to Rural Aid in recognition of the effect drought is having right now on families across QLD. If you would like to support Rural Aid by donating your ticket refund, click here to find out how: https://www.ruralaid.org.au/donate/

04.01.2022 ***PLANNED BURN ADVICE*** ***QPWS*** Council has received the following the advice from Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service. QPWS will be undertaking a hazard r...eduction burn in the Ironbark Gully area of Samford Conservation Park from Thursday 7 May 2020. Planned Burn details: Commence lighting at approximately 0930 hours, Thursday 7 May 2020. The burn will be conducted over 1 to 2 days, with patrols to occur over the weekend. Traffic management on-site. Burn plan area 21.5 hectares. Smoke from Samford Conservation Park (Ironbark Gully area) The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct a planned burn adjacent to the Ironbark Gully day-use area of Samford Conservation Park from Thursday 7 May through to Friday 8 May 2020 weather permitting, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests. As a result, smoke may be seen in the Ferny Hills, Ferny Grove, Bunya, Samford and Camp Mountain areas. The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas. This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration. Please observe signage, barriers, do not enter closed areas and follow direction from rangers. Your safety is our concern but your responsibility. Access to Ironbark Gully trail-head, and all walking, mountain bike and shared trails from Crebra walking trail east to School Break (inclusive) are closed from Thursday 7 May until further notice. Trail closures include: Track 1 (Pipeline) Track 2 (Tank) Ironbark Gully East Break (IBG East) School Break Geigers Rd Break (Eastern end only) Samford Road Break (Eastern end only) Access from Hutton Road (Barber Rd) entrance Access from Linkwood Drive entrance Crebra walking trail (closed Thursday 7 May 2020 only) Ironbark Gully day-use area will remain open.
