25.01.2022 THEN and NOW My first ballet concert - I was slightly annoyed at my teacher Mrs Done for putting me in yellow as I knew I suited the blue version of this costume more than yellow! Apparently the other 2 girls in my group (with the blue costume) were going the wrong way during our piece so I was pulling them along with me and we got in an argument on stage, I was so sure I was right! Afterwards I checked with my teacher and I was in fact en pointe with the choree but she sai...d I was not to argue on stage, *I have never had another argument on stage . What have you value most during this time in isolation? Im basically master chef now, its been a tough time, but seeing people adapt and the reduced consumption is inspiring! . 21.01.2022 THEN and NOW I remember feeling like a princess putting on the full Bharatanatyam costume, waiting back stage thinking to myself, in just a few minutes 100s of people are going to watch me dance and finally know what I always knew in my heart.... that I was supposed to be a dancer. What have you valued most during this time in isolation? Its more what I learned from being in isolation.... Ive learned that I take my freedom for granted. We are so very blessed to live in ...Australia but even so, for that relatively short period of time my freedom was taken away. Freedom to stand on the street and chat to a friend, freedom to sit on a park bench because I was tired. . I remember feeling slightly uncomfortable before the show...hair extensions and the weight of the jewellery pulling on my head, the fear of rubbing the altha from my hands on to my beautiful white costume, and the feeling I was going to forget choreography. 15.01.2022 THEN and NOW! This was taken after my end of year dance concert. I had broken my elbow on a skateboard a few weeks before the show but I still went out to perform my jazz and tap routines because in show business, the show must go on! The flowers are from my Dad, he use to buy me and my sister a bunch after every big performance we did. He isnt with us anymore but Im sure if he was, hed still buy us flowers . What have you valued most during this time in isolation?... I value connection with people and this has been solidified during isolation. Technology is great, but it can never replace the connection you get from being face to face with others, whether thats family, friends or in the community. Even if its a simple chat at a coffee shop with the barista. We need to stop looking at our screens constantly and engage in more old fashioned chit chat. I also feel deeply grateful to live in Australia, where we can enjoy beautiful nature, despite the restrictions in place. . I wasnt naturally flexible and I didnt have a perfect point but that didnt stop me - I loved dancing and still do. What have you valued most during this time in isolation?... With most of our regular activities on hold, Im really enjoying taking life a little slower. Im cherishing the quieter moments with my immediate family and am so very grateful to be part of the extended Sirens family. In India they used to celebrate Childrens day and they put on a concert at our school. I remember making several mistakes and not being synchronised with Mona. My dance guru pulled me up on that... but it was the first time we had danced on stage so she was not too upset.... . What have you valued most during this time in isolation? What was reinforced in my mind is that TEACHERS ARE REALLY IMPORTANT. Ive also valued reconnecting online with friends and family that I otherwise would not have had the time to do. Also my time with Sirens dance where I lock my self away from my kids, so that I can rehearse and hang with people I love. . 12.01.2022 THEN and NOW! This pic is of 6-year-old me in a traditional Filipino costume. My first dance I ever learnt was called Itik-Itik which stands for Little Ducklings. I remember I came home one day and a bunch of kids were dancing at my house. I didnt know I was meant to be in it but my mum used her strict tone and forced me to learn it. I started at the back line then the teacher put me up at the front because I picked it up so quickly. Thats one of the first indicators of... my childhood where I knew dancing was a God- given talent. . What have you valued most during this time in isolation? During isolation, I knew quickly the dance community would suffer drastically. I had to do something to help the community to keep dancing. I am so grateful we live in an age of technology where I am able to provide dance classes virtually. The best thing is I get to dance with my friends around the world. .
