19.05.2022 Expanding our CATalog If you are in Sirius Optics grabbing your gear be on the lookout for our newest staff member. This is Kisa, our shop cat and she has playful nature with a bit of a mischievous streak. Being a new staffer we had to fit Kisa up with a proper staff shirt of course ........

24.04.2022 Important note to our valued customers Due to a worldwide server issue, our website has been temporarily affected and is currently down. We are still trading however and open for business. If you need anything just call us and our friendly staff will try and help.... Please bear with us as we work behind the scenes to re-establish our web site presence and online ordering capacity. As stated, Sirius Optics is still open and running at 100% for normal business over the counter and for telephone orders. Thank you

25.01.2022 New Opening Hours Depite the challenges we have faced, Sirius Optics is growing and to meet our customers needs we are adopting new business hours. Sirius Optics is now South East Queenslands only bricks and mortar shop open for customers to talk to real humans.... Starting Monday 27th April we will be introducing new shop hours and will open from 10 AM to 5.30 PM every weekday and from 9 AM to 2 PM every Saturday, barring public holidays of course. Online ordering remains in place as well and our awesome staff will do their best to serve your needs whether you want to visit us in store or order online. Clear skies and look forward to seeing you in store at some stage.

24.01.2022 In just over 24 Hours from now, we "may" witness a celestial event that hasn't been observed this close and at night time in nearly 800 years. The Great Conjunc...tion of Jupiter & Saturn. I say "may", because the weather forecast is looking like it is going to be cloudy. If we are lucky enough to see it, look to the West after sunset. Jupiter & Saturn will then set after 8pm, giving just over an hour window to try and catch the spectacle. If the clouds do behave, we will also try and livestream the event. See more

20.01.2022 **COVID-19 Measures at Sirius Optics** We are taking a few extra steps in cleaning and sanitising in the showroom and other areas. We are happy to see our customers being equally diligent in hand hygiene and making use of our online store where possible. ... During this period, to ensure best health standards are kept we will not be allowing customers or staff to handle binoculars, spotting scopes, and telescopes in the showroom. Upcoming Telescope Lessons are also suspended until further notice. For those customers who are isolated and feeling unwell we are encouraging you to make use of our online store or call our store and our friendly staff will help you.. For those who are isolated and live in the greater Brisbane area, we are offering you free or subsidised shipping (dependent on product) if you need to stay at home (which is a good idea anyway). Call us or email us so we can arrange this for you.

18.01.2022 Is your Telescope Insured? Nothing makes us sadder than seeing a beautiful piece of technology accidently destroyed. A very distraught customer came into the shop this week with his pride and joy, an 8" Edge HD OTA.... When we popped the front dust cover off, this was the result. Its not uncommon to see SCT OTA's destroyed from astronomers not securing the dovetail mounting or an unbalanced tripod with mount and tube tipping over. Fortunately while our staff received grief counselling, two Mars bars and a good cup of Yorkshire Tea, the poor scope was irreparable and consigned to the scrap heap. Unfortunately for our customer his insurance did not cover a replacement but could have under their house and contents insurance policy. A good reminder for us all to update our insurances for such an event.. There is a happy ending in this story though with the customer making the decision to invest in a new replacement 8" Edge HD proudly supplied by Sirius Optics. Glad we could help get a good outcome.

17.01.2022 We will be closed for the Easter Weekend, 10th to 13th April. Regular opening hours resume on the 14th.

15.01.2022 Who loves colouring in? We encourage our younger visitors to have a go at some space-themed colouring pages in the shop, which we unfortunately we had to remove them because of COVID-19 measures. But here's a pretty cool free-to-print one from NASA, featuring the James Webb telescope. How about giving these a go? Pssst... we also have some activity books in our book section including activity books, sticker books, and colouring books. Limited stock so grab them quick at http://www.sirius-optics.com.au/books.html

15.01.2022 A friendly reminder to all our valued customers that while we are open for Saturday 2nd May, Monday 4th May is a public holiday and we will be closed. Dont despair as we will be open for regular business from Tuesday 5th May.

09.01.2022 How Good is a Saxon 90/900 Refractor? If anyone ever wanted to know how good the images are through a basic Saxon 90/900 refractor, well here it is. These three images of the Moon, Helix Nebula and the Lagoon Nebula were all caught with a ZWO 294MC Pro and a Duo filter by our resident tech, Steve.... Just goes to show you don't need a multi thousand dollar scope to get good pic.

09.01.2022 Which Star is The Brightest?

03.01.2022 The BAS Sky Guide for April/May is now available. Due do COVID-19 restrictions on movement I’ve put an emphasis on easy binocular deep sky objects. These are su...itable for viewing from light polluted skies. If you have a pair of binoculars there are full instructions on how to find a nebula, an open cluster and a globular cluster - even from the suburbs of Brisbane! As usual, there is more advanced information for telescopic users as well as a naked eye conjunction. Enjoy! https://drive.google.com/open
