18.01.2022 WOW "After many years of living in Tasmania, I finally got to see the Tulip Farm up in Table Cape. I was gobsmacked at its beauty! Different colours of tulips... everywhere and in such orderly fashion! While many photographers have ventured to this place and have taken gorgeous nightscapes of the place, I do not have the luxury of time. So, this is my take on this jaw-dropping field of tulips," writes Nathan Lau. : nathanlauphoto/Instagram . Have you visited Table Cape Tulip Farm lately? Share your photos below. See more

10.01.2022 Its shaping up to be a good year for the wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island, Australias only breeding population of wand...erers. This year 10 eggs have been laid, which is the highest in a decade. In the 2008/09 summer 13 eggs were laid, but since then the average has been less than six. This increase in nests is positive news, particularly after only three eggs were laid last season, the lowest recorded in the 25-year DPIPWE monitoring program. While several eggs this season were laid by experienced breeders with well-formed partner bonds, there are also a number of newly established breeding pairs and first time breeders, some of which were chicks from the comparatively bumper 2008/09 season. While the majority of the nests are in the south-west of the island, birds occasionally breed on the northern featherbed - the coastal peat terrace along the west coast. This season there is a nest along the southern featherbed where breeding has not been recorded since 1967. The Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service have been carrying-out the monitoring this season in conjunction with the MCP to understand the long-term population trends on the island. These data contribute to global population estimates as part of the International Agreement for the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels. The first chicks will begin to hatch in March - we will be very keen to see how many are successful. Many thanks to Wildlife Ranger Mel Wells for the update and images.
