23.01.2022 Why do the police keep murdering Black people and others with impunity? simply isnt a good question. Policing has to be racist, patriarchal, ableist, homophobic, and transphobic to meet its purpose. If you want to maintain a white supremacist, cis-hetero patriarchal, capitalist state, then particular groups have to be targeted, controlled, and contained. This leaves us with nowhere to go and very little to do. We need better questions and better demands. Both are within ou...r reach and so is the possibility of achieving police abolition. 18.01.2022 An international discussion of the connections between Black Lives Matter calls to defund the police and abolish the prison industrial complex, and Palestinian calls to tear down all apartheid walls and free Palestine. These speakers bring years of on-the-ground experience and strategic thinking to the conversation. Angela Davis has been an activist and liberatory scholar since the 1960s. Her 2003 book Are Prisons Obsolete? laid the strategic groundwork for the current abolit...ion movement, as did the first Critical Resistance Conference, which she co-organized in 1998. She is joined, from Palestine, by Jamal Juma', a leading grassroots organizer since Palestines First Intifada in 1987. A founding member of the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees, Palestine National BDS Committee, Palestinian Association for Cultural Exchange, and Palestinian Environmental NGO Network, Juma' is coordinator of the Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign and Stop the Wall. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8aSStKFaMQ0

15.01.2022 Climate Justice is Racial Justice: Learning Series explores the ways racial inequities intersect with the threats of climate change. These fights are deeply interconnected, and the way to build a healthy, resilient future is to learn, understand, and support one another in the fight against the systems of oppression that we've all been enmeshed in. Each week for four weeks, a 350 Seattle team will host a guest speaker who will draw connections between racial justice issues an...d the work we do here at 350 Seattle. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions, and be offered a clear way to learn more and support each issue. You can participate for individual webinars or the whole series. 10.01.2022 The National Network of Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls (NNIFIWG) called on state governments on August 26 to immediately release all women and children locked in prisons across the country. The widespread lockdowns, the cancellation of family visits and women and children being placed into lockdown solitary confinement leads to permanent and negative impacts. NNIFIWG said the negative impacts of solitary confinement are well recognised: they incl...ude paranoia, anxiety, severe psychological suffering and permanent psychiatric disability. These harmful effects begin in prison and continue following the end of the confinement, NNIFIWG said. https://www.greenleft.org.au//covid-19-prisoner-rights-act

07.01.2022 All prisons in south east Qld are in total locked down. Everybody is locked in their cells. Ive been calling on prisons and government to free people from prison before this pandemic hit. Now were here the fear has become a reality. People may die because of the inaction of the State.

07.01.2022 I always talk to women about it’s not their shame, it’s the state’s shame, she says. We are so much more than the worst thing we have ever done. 02.01.2022 While we continue to criminalise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, we are going to continue to see black deaths in custody, Kilroy said. For me when I heard [the commissioners comments] a white woman comes out and says were not racist my hackles go up straight away. Its not for a white person to say that an institution is not racist, its for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Its on the public record since the invasion.... https://www.theguardian.com//lawyer-for-sherry-fisher-tilb
