25.01.2022 Spring and the Seasons for Growth Program Provided by Good Grief: In the Seasons for Growth program we are reminded there are opportunities to learn new skills to help us adapt to the change and loss experienced. This spring, we are also reminded of the incredible response of many in support of those who have experienced the devastating bushfires of 2019/20.... There is an increasing demand for support to deliver training that provides a safe space for children and young people to give a voice to their experiences and learn appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes to understand and manage the changes brought about by a natural disaster. We continue to provide opportunities over the coming months for you to train in Seasons for Growth and our funded Stormbirds programs. You're invited to access more information and resources here... sosj.org.au/spring-seasons-for-growth-program #GoodGrief #SeasonsForGrowth #SistersOfSaintJoseph

Today Julian Edmund Tenison Woods’ mission-mindedness lives on in the Sisters of Saint Joseph and the Josephite Companions. On his birthday, 15 November, we remember with gratitude the influence he had and continues to have on what he called ‘St Joseph’s Isle’ and pray that he continue to influence our lives as we ‘bring what we have’ to our ministry in his footsteps." 22.01.2022 Be a Part of History St Anthony's Family Care in Croydon NSW has, for over 60 years, been supporting the local community through the provision of a range of services focusing on the needs of children and families. After operating from a site which is close to 100 years old, their buildings were tired, required significant maintenance and were no longer fit for purpose. After many years of planning, a decision was made to construct a new fully accessible and purpose-built vil...lage. The new and expanded village would enable St Anthony’s to support a greater number of children to reach their greatest potential. You are invited to be part of history by personalising a paver which will be laid on the main pathway running through the site. The expected completion date is March 2021. Joanna Najdzion, Chief Executive Officer for St Anthony’s Family Care, said: St Anthony’s Family Care is proud to provide a new Village for children and young people, including young people living with disabilities. Purchasing a paver is a great way to be part of St Anthony’s history and to mark your support of this important project." 17.01.2022 World Teachers’ Day World Teachers’ Day is held internationally on 5 October. However, in Australia it is held on the last Friday of October. Its purpose is to recognise and give thanks to teachers for the work they do in educating children. Sr Kathleen has written a reflection and wrote:... "In today’s world, a lot is expected of teachers and more than ever, teachers should be recognised as professionals who truly have the best interests of their students at heart. What can we do to make world teachers’ day more significant in the lives of teachers? How can we express our gratitude to the people we entrust our children to them for 27 hours a week? Can we train our children to be grateful students?" Let’s make World Teachers’ Day 2020 a significant day for teachers as their students say, thank-you. 13.01.2022 Advent Today (Sunday 30 November), marks the beginning of the season of Advent. As Sr Maryellen says:... "For us Christians, the anticipation of the birth of Christ in the season of Advent resembles our childhood experiences. The word, Advent, derives from the Latin adventus, which means coming. While it is a period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas, it is also a reminder of the Second Coming of Christ... As we move into this coming Advent season, may we capture the excitement and anticipation of the child as we prepare for the birth of Jesus in our hearts and in the world around us." 13.01.2022 St Francis of Assisi Feast Day Today (4 October) is the feast of St Francis of Assisi (the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations) and also concludes the Season of Creation. Additionally, Pope Francis chose Francis as his papal name in honor of St Francis of Assisi. On choosing the name Francis, Pope Francis said at the Vatican press conference on 16 March 2013:... "The man of the poor. The man of peace. The man who loved and cared for creation - and in this moment we don't have such a great relationship with the creator. The man who gives us this spirit of peace, the poor man who wanted a poor Church. Francis is also the man of peace. That is how the name came into my heart: Francis of Assisi. For me, he is the man of poverty, the man of peace, the man who loves and protects creation." 13.01.2022 Death of Alexander MacKillop 1868 Today (19 December) we commemorate the death of Saint Mary MacKillop's father, Alexander MacKillop. Sr Judith Geddes has provided a reflection:... "Early this year, I stood at the graveside of Alexander MacKillop. Fresh native flowers were displayed, honouring the father of Mary MacKillop, and our group listened to the story of Alexander’s time in Hamilton. I realised that Alexander was being acknowledged for his life’s effort and his contribution to faith development in his adopted country, fathering a daughter who was to be declared Australia’s first saint. There was no sense he was a failure or unsuccessful as some may have thought. Alexander’s classic education in both Rome and Scotland enabled him to educate his children in a time and place where few children had the opportunity for schooling. Indeed, all Alexander’s children were highly literate, active and above all, each truly practised a living active faith based on Scottish Catholic tradition and heritage. Three of his children entered religious congregations..." 12.01.2022 Exaltation of the Holy Cross This feast also known as the Triumph of the Cross, is commemorated on 14 September. In Sr Rita's reflection for this feast, she said:... "It is hard to find anything triumphant in these days of a global pandemic, and yet, even in the death of Jesus on the cross, there indeed is something to celebrate." To Sr Rita, the Triumph of the Cross "is also about lifting up the lowly. God lifts up the weak and lowly." The words of the entrance antiphon for the Feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross are inviting and a prayer that we can use each and every day: "We should glory in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, for he is our salvation, our life and our resurrection: through him we are saved and made free."
