23.01.2022 It is great to hear that the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development's National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy has been released today. We can't wait to see the detail on how it will deliver better outcomes for industry and what it means for #planningfreightfriendlycitiesandregions. Congrats to all involved, including Nicole Lockwood, Marika Calfas + Maurice James.... Australian freight supply chains...delivering about 163 tonnes of freight per person around the country each year, Mr McCormack said. With our freight volumes expected to grow by more than a third by 2040 and online shopping growth at over 20 per cent a year, we need to increase the productivity of our freight system... To meet these challenges, the Strategy commits to national action in four critical areas: smarter and targeted infrastructure investment; improving supply chain efficiency; better planning, coordination and regulation; and better freight location and performance data." #freightdoesntvote https://lnkd.in/fjFEndK

23.01.2022 BON VOYAGE TOM + WELCOME GEORGE Last week the SITE team sent Tom packing literally ....backpacking. Tom is taking extended leave for the rest of 2019 to travel overseas with his partner Elle + we wish them all the best for wonderful + safe adventures. ... Tom has been a huge part of the SITE team since joining in 2015 + has led the delivery of our residential masterplanning and Sydney intermodal/rail projects, in addition to many more. We’ll miss his dry humour, sarcasm, banter + above-average height , but most importantly the skills + experience he brings to the team as a town planner + former development manager. Last week we also welcomed George (Georgina Richmond), joining the team as a Principal Town Planner. George brings a diverse and extensive town planning background to the team having held previous roles in Local Government + leading WA consultancies in Perth + the South West. We are super excited to welcome George to the team + to introduce her to our clients, project team consultants, #freightmates + #planningfreightfriendlycitiesandregions. #SITEteam #SITEfamily #yearofchange #watchthisspace

16.01.2022 At SITE our culture encourages us to take a moment to celebrate our wins, no matter how big or small + in ways that are small, big + everything in between. It reminds us that (in most cases) many months of work led us to this point, that our victories are a team effort + those efforts enable us to deliver compelling deputations + negotiate approvals. This afternoon we secured an approval for a new DHL freight-forwarding facility at the Metro East JDAP meeting + tonight’s De...velopment Services Committee meeting gives us confidence we will secure an approval from Council on Monday for a Harvey Fresh distribution centre. SO THIS IS A CELEBRATORY DONUT + a place-holder for lunch. #planningfreightfriendlycitiesandregions #triplethreat #greatclientprojectandteam #sociallicenceforfreight #celebratethewins #2020offtoaflyingstart BTW It seemed fitting to celebrate with a #krispykreme purchased from a #7eleven at 9.15pm...made possible thanks to our incredible supply chains + the freight + logistics industry who work 24/7/365 to keep retail shelves across Australia stocked with an enormous (+ ever growing) range of products that support our everyday lives.

14.01.2022 The Australian Logistics Council’s #ALCForum2019 is the highlight of our freight + logistics professional + business development calendar each year + 2019 was no exception. The opportunity to hear from Federal + State Ministers + industry leaders across a range of topics including: - the National Freight + Supply Chain Strategy - putting freight on the ballot... - getting infrastructure investment right - towards a national rail vision - the potential of northern Australian - Westport’s Port and Environs Strategy - electric vehicles in supply chains is invaluable for the space we work in, #planningfreightfriendlycitiesandregions. A highlight this year was the opportunity to share our experience + learnings on how smart, evidence based planning + advocacy can support the freight + logistics industry + the efficiency of our supply chains in the Urban + Regional Freight Planning Session. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to catch up with our #freightmates from WA + across Australia. See you in Sydney in 2020.

14.01.2022 Thanks Jake Schapper + Mohammad Swapan for the invitation to judge the Curtin University BA Urban + Regional Planning 3rd Year Regional Planning debate + give a guest lecture on regional planning for freight, logistics + supply chains. It’s great that the lectures + tutorials can keep rolling on amid the COVID-19 crisis thanks to fantastic technology, though it was strange to present to a camera + not a room full of students. Congrats to the 2 debate teams who did brilliant...ly + put forward some great arguments + key points for/against the proposition that WA needs a regional freight + logistics authority to assess/determine development applications that have the potential to impact freight + logistics operations. It’s been a few years since we were students in this building but nice to see it is still largely the same, including that iconic sculpture at the entrance to Building 201. #planningfreightfriendlycitiesandregions #BAUrbanandRegionalPlanning #regionalplanning #Building201

14.01.2022 2 from 2 - this week’s unashamed #boastpost deserved an upgrade. Lessons in Social Licence We made it through an intense week of negotiations with our client, the tenant, the neighbours, the City + Councillors to build social licence to operate + secure approval to redevelop an ageing freight forwarding facility. ... Tonight’s success reaffirms our commitment to a collaborative + personable approach to deliver great outcomes for our clients, locations + communities. And highlights the important role of town planners as an interface between industry, Government + communities to negotiate outcomes that work to build trust + credibility. Next month our MD Kareena May will present to the Australian Logistics Council Forum in Sydney on the role of town planners + how best practise integrated land use + transport planning can benefit both industry + communities. The role of the freight + logistics industry as a major contributor to Australia’s enviable level of ‘quality of life’ is gaining recognition. On a daily basis, almost everything we touch, eat, work on or with, wear, ride on/in + enjoy as a recreation pastime, has been touched by industry on the supply chain journey, + more than likely on multiple occasions, to deliver it to our local retailers, restaurants + service providers. Local governments + the town planning profession have a responsibility to work collaboratively with industry to create a more enabling business + regulatory environment in which the industry can continue to flourish + grow. Presenting with the City of Canning, we’ll share the work underway on projects that aim to deliver best-practice outcomes for industry + unlock economic + social benefits for our communities. #planningfreightfriendlycitiesandregions #sociallicencetooperate #krispykreme #GHMumm #celebratethewins #takeamomentinthemadness

05.01.2022 One of the best parts of our job is walking a site with key stakeholders to share the story + context of a project or even a whole precinct. Especially when it involves world-class infrastructure, industries + operators based right here in WA. WA's Australian Marine Complex is a world-class centre for maritime-related manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, maintenance + technology that services + supports the defence, marine, oil/gas + resource industries. As long-time frei...ght-nerds, we love talking all things industrial development, transport + major infrastructure (ports, intermodals, freight villages...) + are now super excited to be involved in a major maritime common user facility + all that goes with it (floating dock, vessel transfer paths, super yacht fabrication, full cycle docking, a lot of new acronyms...). Thanks to AMC Management (WA) Pty Ltd (Jonathan Smith + Ken Wood, pictured on the floating dock), City of Cockburn (Lorenzo Santoriello, Luke Harris MPIA, David King + Sabina Rahman-Horstmann), DevelopmentWA (Lauren Vidler), Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (Sam McLeod) + Benchmark Projects Australasia (Chris Carman) for walking the site with us this morning. #planningmaritimefriendlycitiesandregions #gonetoSITE
