25.01.2022 THE BARBELL FRONT SQUAT . . Image 1: chest not proud, elbows down, eye gaze down, high risk of injuries to your back as it's compensating the frontwards pull of weight. .... . Image 2: Feet too narrow, will struggle to get to depth and will most likely fall forwards. If an athlete has poor ankle mobility, this stance only exaggerates that. . . Image 3: Following on from image 2, poor mobility in the ankle, achilles and calves can force the heels to come up in a squat. . . Image 4: Correct squat to full depth. Feet a shoulder distance apart, gaze and elbows are up, torso is strong and chest is up. Knees are driving over the toes and heels are flat. . . #perthfitness #perthfitfam #fitness #perthisok #perth #perthnow #perthfit #perthtodo #perthlife #perthgym #fitnessmotivation #activeinperth #fitnessperth #perthhealth #perthyoga #gym #perthmums #fitfamperth #activeperth #fitperthlife #workout #northbeach #fitfam #yogaperth #health #lovemyjob #perthsmallbusiness #perthgram #exercise #bhfyp

20.01.2022 Beginning an exercise routine in your 50s or later can feel scary and intimidating, whether you are starting for the first time or rekindling an old habit. You may feel like it's too late or you aren't in good enough shape to get started, but the smallest changes produce drastic results. . . Has your doctor mentioned the following? Patients with osteoporosis, impact exercise (with caution) and weight training are important, because these types of exercise can help to build b...one mass and slow degeneration. . . Patients with arthritis, impact exercise can be bothersome to the joints, so physicians will typically recommend low impact cardiovascular exercise. . . The general recommendation is that all adults should strive for 150 to 300 minutes of exercise each week, 150 if that would be vigorous. . . Still unsure, maybe try looking for a personal trainer to help you make the right choice for your situation. The benefit of a qualified and experienced personal trainer or group instructor is having someone guide you through the proper biomechanics, exercise selection, sequence, intensity, and recovery to optimise your results. . . Clearance from a doctor is recommended, but for more information on how to get back into fitness or starting. Look no further, we are here to help. https://buff.ly/3fo7sQx #sixty7sixfitness #sixty7sixgym #hillsfitness #sixty7sixcommunity #kalamundatraining #fitness #perthhillsfitness #motivation #nutrition #healthylifestyle #healthychoices #training #personalcoach #personaltraining #sixty7sixbootcamp #bootcamp #weightlosssupport #teamtraining #newyou See more

16.01.2022 THE PISTOL SQUAT A Pistol Squat is a squat performed on one leg. It's an advanced strength movement occasionally included in our strength components in our classes. Pistol squats test the strength of your core, stabilizing muscles and the entire leg from glutes to ankles. Firstly, mobility is key for the pistol squat and there are so many other great progressions that can be used - Having your heel elevated, standing on a box and more... Here we have just some progressions that can be used to get you to that full pistol squat: 1 Holding onto a set of rings, a band or TRX, these are used to keep you balanced and to help you come out of the squat. You can pull yourself up against the rings to a standing position. 2 If Mobility in the ankle is limited or this is a new movement to you, we suggest ‘Bum to Box’. Aiming for your bottom to just touch the box before coming back out of the squat. Note that you want to avoid sitting down on the box and resting at the bottom. 3 This variation is more advanced and requires a slider and a smooth surface like our fake turf. Following the same movement pattern as a full pistol squat, the front foot stays down on the slider. This is great for people that have the strength to do a full pistol, but their balance holds them back. 4 Lastly, we have a full, unassisted pistol squat. Key things to focus on are: Ankle mobility, chest staying upright and not collapsing onto the leg, bottom goes back and then down to counterbalance the extended leg Want to learn how to do this movement and so many more?! Join us! Head to www.sixty7six.com/free-intro to get started!

16.01.2022 PULL UPS Progressions, scaling options and tips. Scaling options can include: Bands, TRX rows, push ups, bent over row, strict press... Tips & cues to execute the pull up No dead hang. Pull shoulder blades down and into your back (scapular and lat activation) No shoulders scrunched up near ears - a sign that you may need another band Drive your elbows down to the floor and think about pulling the bar down, instead of trying to get up Finish pull up with bar just underneath chin Lock out arms at the bottom Want to work on your upper body strength? 14.01.2022 SQUAT TIPS & TRICKS Heres how to Squat with proper form, using a barbell: 1. Stand with the bar on your upper-back, and your feet shoulder-width apart 2. Squat down by pushing your knees to the side while moving hips back... 3. Break parallel by Squatting down until your hips are lower than your knees 4. Squat back up while keeping your knees out and chest up 5. Stand with your hips and knees locked at the top TIPS: Box squats can help you tap into the strength of the muscles in your posterior chainthe back side of your bodyincluding your glutes and hamstrings. Box Squats can help address issues that prevent you from fully developing muscle strength or when mobility impacts a normal squat. Plates. Many lifters typically put a 1.25kg 5kg plate under their heels to help them hit a deeper squat. By putting the plate under their heels they are compensating for a lack of ankle mobility. The key is making sure the heel does not come up and the foot remains flat! '1. Increased recruitment of the vastus medialis Elevating the heels allows for the knees to pass the toes to a greater extent. This increases vastus medialis recruitment. The strength of the Vastus Medialis is crucial for knee stability. That means, moving your knees over your toes to a greater extent does have a positive effect on your knee stability and is a natural movement that can be found in everyday activities e.g. taking the stairs. 2. Depth of the squat Elevating the heels allows for knees to be further brought past your toes. Besides the increased recruitment of the Vastus Medialis, the elevation allows for an increased range of motion within the knee joint through greater dorsiflexion of the ankle, and thereby for a deeper squat especially if the ankle mobility is restricted in early training phases. 3. Decreased compression of the lumbars By elevating the heels, the torso will be in a more upright position. This decreases the compression of the lumbars and the recruitment of the Erector Spinae. This allows a higher training volume without overloading the lower back in athletes whose lumbar erectors arent conditioned yet mainly in untrained athletes. Squats with elevated heels are an excellent solution to improve mobility and flexibility in the ankle and hip joint and to optimise knee stability.' Reference - https://buff.ly/31MU3wa

13.01.2022 Why we encourage good habits... . . 1. Habits Are Who You Are A habit is something that you do daily without really thinking about it. Your habits become a considerable part of your routine that they ultimately become who you are. ... . . 2. You Can Change Your Habits The best thing about habits is that if you don’t like them or they aren’t working for you, you have the ability to change them or realign them. The "naughty" habits are the hardest habits to stop and take the longest to break. . . 3. Good Habits Allow You to Reach Your Goals The first step to reaching any goal is first establishing a daily habit which will help you on your way! For example, riding a bike. Most of you would have started on a kids tricycle, then a bike with training wheels, from there you would take one off, then finally both to reach the goal of learning to ride a bike. For some goals will be easier to reach then others. . . 4. Habits Set a Foundation for Life Since your habits become you, the habits, whether good or bad, that you choose to follow ultimately will set the tone for your entire life. . . 5. Habits Can Replace Motivation Everyone has days where they just don’t feel like exercising, working, or eating well. However, when you can develop these activities into habits, they will become second nature, and you’ll do them without having to think. . . #mondaymotivation #monday #habits #health #fitness #nutrition #hills #sixty7six

12.01.2022 Eat meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and limit your sugar this Christmas. Enjoy dense foods, high in sugar in moderation. Choose whole foods, not food products. Food products look like food that is packaged and found down the isles of your local grocery store. These tend to contain chemicals and man-made ingredients. Instead of grabbing something that is quick and easy, plan ahead and focus on whole foods so you can enjoy those social occasions more when you have planned for them!

03.01.2022 THE BARBELL DEADLIFT (conventional) - T IS FOR TIPS! . . Image 1: Rounded back, no shoulder and lat activation. .... . Image 2: Feet are too narrow causing the hands to brush the legs on the way up. This prevents the bar being close to the body, which can increase strain on the back and athletes will find it harder to activate their upper body correctly. . . Image 3: The bar is too far away from the body. A favourite saying of mine that I use with clients is, "Bring the bar to your shins and bend it around your body". This helps the athlete pull the bar in close AND activate that shoulder/lat pull down by imagining they are trying to bend the bar around them. . . Image 4: Correct deadlift start position. Back is flat, bottom is below shoulders, gaze is neutral. My shoulders are pulled back and down, I've braced my midline, the bar is touching my shins and I'm ready to drive my barbell up by driving through the feet! . . 02.01.2022 Soppy post ahead! Todays marks 4 years since our first ever bootcamp! For those of you who don't know, I was a stay at home mum, & did not enjoy it and there was no where I could train up in the hills where I could have my baby with me. So Sixty7Six Fitness was born.... I was shitting myself coaching 15 people on my first ever bootcamp after never working as a PT before, but it worked out in the end. Now it is part of me, I cannot imagine doing anything else. It is so tiring but so so worth it! Ive made best mates, have the best team of coaches, the best baby sitters Tammy Freakley David Freakley and the best support Tori Griffiths. I personally feel like I am doing what I am truly meant to be doing, never hate going to work or resent it. I know people search their whole life for a job like that, so I am very lucky. We wouldn't exist without you, without our members. THANK YOU for allowing me to build something I'm so passionate about I will probably blabber on about this on Saturday night, so I'll save it for then
