12.01.2022 It's with great pride that Paddington Division has changed their name to Paddington Combined Division. Whilst we still continue our 105+ year tradition of providing first aid for our community, we have merged with Eastern Suburbs Cadet Division to form a larger volunteer organisation. St John Cadets are members under the age of 18. Cadets meet & train weekly much like the Adult division.... With the merger of the two divisions, cadets can learn from their adult role models and assist patients under supervision from our trained responders and health care professionals. Cadets regularly become team leaders before and after they turn 18, they are welcomed either as a cadet leader or into the Adult Division. Recently, two of our aspiring cadets assisted in treating some 20 patients under the guidance of our Adult members. It was their first attempt at triage, managing up to 5 patients at a point in time. The cadets did brilliantly. We look forward to supporting our community and growing our division with members aged 8 to 80 years. More information about the cadets can be found at our St John National Page. http://cadets.stjohn.org.au/cadets

11.01.2022 We held our awards night on Monday 3rd December, 2018 and would like to acknowledge the following volunteers for their commitment to our community and St John First Aid organisation. Ayden Black - Most improved cadet Jordan Zhang - Cadet of the year Noubar Sarkissian - Adult member of the year ... Marie Doyle - Most Duty Hours Marie could not join us, as she was actually doing a volunteer duty at the time. Our Superintendent Craig Saunders thanked our 2IC Michael Needham for his devotion to supporting our divisional member base. We also congratulate long term volunteer Wendy Yao who started with us as a cadet. She has just completed a medical degree and will starting her work as a Doctor early next year in a leading Sydney hospital. Congratulations Dr Yao! Additional recognition goes to Jayde McCallie for her promotion to a Grade VI Officer as a Registered Nurse. And finally we congratulate three of our members, Daniel Shaw, Noubar Sarkissian and Michael Needham for their recent save a life award, presented by the Governor of NSW This team was on duty at a cycling event earlier in the year where a man had collapsed and suffered a cardiac arrest. Their quick actions, calmness and intervention achieved an incredible result of bringing a man back to life. The team was honoured to reunite with the patient a few weeks later and shared stories with the man they saved. Noubar, at the age of 82 we understand is the oldest volunteer to ever receive the award. Michael Needham was also presented a 2nd safe a life award for his efforts after coming across a high speed motorcycle accident earlier in the year. The commitment of our volunteers and wide range of cultures and backgrounds are testament to the diversity of our organisation. We wish all our volunteers and community a safe holiday season and remind everyone that if you are thinking about presents to give away, perhaps a course in first aid with St John First Aid isn't such a bad idea.

10.01.2022 We congratulate St John Volunteers, Michael Needham, Daniel Shaw and Noubar Sakkissian for responding to and saving the life of a man that attended an event in the Eastern Suburbs today. Our team performed CPR and our defib was successful in returning a normal heart rhythm within minutes of witnessing the gentleman's collapse. We wish to also thank the bystanders for the detailed medical history and assisting with treatment. We also thank and recognise NSW Ambulance for their... quick response and exceptional paramedic teams that took over primary care. It's not every day a patient collapses in cardiac arrest and wishes to walk away before NSW Ambulance arrives. We commend our amazing team at St John Ambulance for systematically going through the processes needed to save this man’s life in a cool and calm manner. On behalf of our team at St John Ambulance, we wish the patient a speedy and full recovery.
