05.01.2022 Where do Ash Monday ashes come from? Ashes come from the burning of palms from Palm Sunday from last year. Last year, those graceful green and blessed palms marked our remembrance of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.... Now, dried and yellowed, the palms are set on fire, producing fine ashes. The ashes are meant to symbolize both death and repentance in order to begin Lent in a solemn, humble way.
