10.01.2022 Paid pandemic leave is now available for New South Wales workers. Any worker who has no leave entitlements will be eligible for a one-off $1,500 payment for eac...h 14-day period that they are directed by NSW Health to self-isolate or quarantine, or during which they are caring for someone with COVID-19. This includes holders of a temporary visa that gives them the right to work in Australia. "We do not want some workers to have to choose between isolating and financially supporting themselves or their dependents," Premier Gladys Berejiklian said when announcing the state was joining the Federal Government scheme. Meanwhile Unions NSW has said it's frustrating it took so long for the leave to be made available in the state. "We're very frustrated the Premier and Prime Minster have taken so long to ensure that workers who are casually employed have the financial security to go and get tested and to isolate for 14 days," Secretary Mark Morey said. "Particularly in areas such as aged care, we're very frustrated it hasn't come sooner."
