25.01.2022 Just in case you haven’t had enough of Black Heart Sassafras we are just loading the Ute now with some superb boards and a few slabs. Most of these are about 2400mm long, and will be at the Train at about 3pm today.

22.01.2022 There’s never a dull moment in The Wood Guys world. This afternoon we extended the handmade woodwork part of the business out into a section of the main shop (in with Margate Train Traders). Which means now we have room for MORE WOOD!!!! 21.01.2022 The joys of water! This Blackwood log was salvaged out of the Huon River and the results of being suitably marinated for many a year are clear to see. A couple of years drying out and some stunning kitchen benches are on the cards.

19.01.2022 Every now and then you come across something beyond stunning! These bookmatched Blackheart sassafras slabs are rare as rocking horse and so beautiful! The photos don’t do them justice at all. It was the most expensive log we’ve bought but I think the results are worth it. Imagine this pair as a table top or tv unit?! Just finished a total restock of the Devonport outlet, lots of Black Heart Sassafras (including some stunning book matched pairs), Birds Eye Huon Pine, Myrtle Burl, Coffee table size Blackwood slabs, Celery Top Pine and of course lots of Huon Pine rounds. Fresh out of the workshop this morning, we have a few available but you’ll need to be quick, I might take a couple home and get creative. *third photo is just to show an example of what you can create, it’s not our work.

15.01.2022 A fantastic example of what you can cut from a rotten salvaged Myrtle log. This particular monster is about 800 years old and 80% rotten but if you can see past that and cut deep the rewards are plentiful. Look out for these next year when they hit the shop.

10.01.2022 A little history about our Train Originally made in England in 1950, the Tasman Limited was operated by the Tasmanian Government Railways on the Main and W...estern lines between Hobart, Launceston & Wynyard from April 1954 till July 1978. The Tasman departed Hobart at 08:35 and arrived in Launceston at 13:08, and Wynyard at 16:45. It was considered a great luxury passenger train back in its day and although most trips took 8 hours it was never a true ‘express’ train but it was still named as such. The Tasman Limited was the last regularly scheduled passenger train to operate in Tasmania. Still to this day we have the original train booths in our ‘back carriage’ and we use the original train cafeteria as our kitchen also
