16.01.2022 If you've driven from Perth to Bunbury or Bunbury to Perth, you'll know this spot - it's where Forrest Highway meets Old Coast Road. On a normal weekend, thousa...nds of you would be driving past it. But this weekend, it's as far as you'd be allowed to go. Police checkpoints like this one and mobile patrols are now in place across Western Australia to stop people from travelling unnecessarily outside of their region. Unless you meet one of the exemptions, you won't be able to pass them. So far, I'm glad to report that only a very small number of people have needed to be turned around from these checkpoints across WA. To the vast majority of you doing the right thing and not travelling unnecessarily this weekend - thank you. I hope we don't need to have them there for very long - but right now, it's a necessary step. The health and safety of Western Australians is more important than any holiday could ever be. So stay home, but stay in touch.

01.01.2022 WORK STARTS ON BUSSELL HIGHWAY A much anticipated plan to widen Bussell hwy between Busselton and Capel is underway but the State it's yet to secure f...unding to complete the project. The State is pushing ahead with pre-works on the site, after committing $4.5m in the latest budget. As for actually building the road, Bunbury MP Don Punch said the State was still in discussions with the Commonwealth to secure funding. But he said he was confident that would come through. "It would be very very hard to see no funding secured because we know that this road is a dangerous road as it currently is configured," Mr Punch said. "It needs to be dual lane - that's the conversation that the minister is having with the Federal Government." The first stage of the project is set to wrap up in January next year.
