25.01.2022 We’ve really been enjoying Nathan W. Pyle’s work recently. This one is particularly close to home!
22.01.2022 It's been a while, friends. We've been on a very long journey. It's now come to an end, but a new one is beginning. It seems only right to kick off this new chapter on the day of the equinox. To herald this new beginning for us, here's our first episode of Skadi's Stories in nearly twelve months. Here's to spring and revelling in all the beauty of nature https://www.skadiadventures.com.au/blog/an-ode-to-ostara
21.01.2022 BLACK CLOUDS AND GOLDEN RAYS Because at a certain altitude, the weather makes up her own mind #sheisSkadi
20.01.2022 KISSED BY SKADI Our patron delivers. Winter is here #sheisSkadi
19.01.2022 FRIENDS OF SKADI - WE NEED YOUR HELP! As you know, we've had a tough summer so far. Now to add insult to injury, we receive news that a "convenience restaurant" is being planned for development in our homebase town of Mansfield. We don't stand for that kind of nonsense. So we're fighting against it. If you've ever been to Mansfield, or if you just abhor the idea of another chain "convenience" restaurant dominating a small town populated by purely local-run businesses, p...lease sign the below petition. Every voice counts. We have until February 7 to send our objection to Council. Thanks, friends http://chng.it/PSbQJHWMR2
13.01.2022 RADIANCE There are many words I could post in accompaniment of these amazing images of a Stirling sunset silhouetting her sister, Buller. But I won’t. I’ll just let you enjoy them, and accompany them with your own discourse #sheisSkadi
13.01.2022 These trees have stood for centuries. And the mountains they live in are millions of years old. They’ll still be there when this is all over. If they can play the long game, so can you. You can do this. You can survive this. You can grow through this. #stayathome
12.01.2022 PERFECTION Not sure what your definition of the word is, but we reckon this is pretty close #sheisSkadi
12.01.2022 LOOK UP Komorebi is a gorgeous Japanese word, which expresses the phenomenon of sunshine streaming through trees. The way leaves catch the light invokes a beautiful sense of peace #sheisSkadi
10.01.2022 COLOUR AND MONOCHROME It’s a wet and foggy day up here in the Alps. Days like this reveal a secret beauty that only comes out in the rain: the vibrant swirling colours of the snow gums. Against the cold, eerie grey of the mountain mist, they radiate warmly and boldly. Combine this with the smell of damp soil and eucalyptus and you’re as close to heaven as you can be on this earth. Our hiking season is coming to an end, and what a season it’s been. Keep an eye out over the next few days for a highlights reel of Skadi’s Summer 18/19! #sheisSkadi
09.01.2022 BACKYARD EXPLORING There are always new places to visit in a backyard as vast as ours. And everyone has their favourite places to which they return time and time again. Recently, and only recently, we wandered up to the summit of Mt Samaria for the first time, and loved the beauty of this magical little mountain. Special places so close to home are still so much fun to find! #sheisSkadi @ Mount Samaria
05.01.2022 TRUST THE JOURNEY Sometimes the path you’re walking is obscured, faded, hard to follow. Yet still you walk on, because whilst you might not know where it goes or for how long, you know the journey is not yet over. Trust the process. Trust the journey. You’ll know when you’ve arrived at your destination. Keep going #sheisskadi
04.01.2022 OVERCOMING This is one of my top five places in the world. This is the Honeymoon Suite, just below the summit of Mt Speculation. This is where my heart soars and my soul feels at peace. This is home. My most recent mission to this magical place was mired by one of the most severe heartaches I’ve ever experienced. Upon arriving at the Suite, I found that, very recently, some entitled arsehole of a human had tainted this sacred space with an enormous campfire, about two metre...s by one. I went into apoplexy. I swore and raged and set another trying to undo the damage that had been done: removing the rock ring around the fire, moving the half-charred logs, and scooping up as much of the charcoal and ash as I could. I set my tent up on the fire scar, in an effort to give a middle finger to those who had violated my home, and to show them that my life would go on. And my life does go on. And I slept. And I awoke to this. I’ve seen probably a dozen sunrises from here. But this one, with fires in nearby Abbeyard still burning and creating a blanket of smoke to trap the misty morning clouds, added an eerily beautiful aura. It was almost trying to tell me, There is beauty in this. Be still. Breathe. Watch. Overcome. There is so much injustice to direct anger at currently. And it’s important to get angry, to speak out against what is happening to our fellow humans, and to our shared mother - Nature. But we need to also remember to stop, and remind ourselves why we fight and hurt. It’s for this. It’s for the beauty of this astonishing world. Look at this. Take it in. Inhale. Exhale. If we realise that we are all in this together, we will all overcome. #sheisSkadi See more
04.01.2022 MAKING THE CALL The right thing to do is often the hardest. But here we go. Skadi will be sitting Season 2020 out. The safety of our adventurers is paramount above all, and the conditions we are facing here in the hills, both present and foreseeable, are just not conducive to guaranteeing that the experiences we like to offer you will be enjoyable. When Nature speaks we need to listen with utmost respect, and she’s clearly unhappy at the moment. So we are going to work on... trying to make our mountain home happier, so that we can come back next season with renewed vigour. In the meantime we will continue to post content and share stories with you, and of course will be receptive to all of your enquiries and messages. Be safe, friends. Listen to the advice given. Pray for rain. And above all, take care of yourselves #sheisSkadi See more
