25.01.2022 This week we are not only conducting FIRE DRILLS but we also practice other emergency procedures such as snakes in the yard and intruders. It enables us to practice all different routes to evacuate. Today we conducted an intruder alert where we quietly headed into the kitchen in lockdown mode. This is just a message to notify parents that it was only a drill which we will be continuing all week.

23.01.2022 Do you have concerns about your childs speech sound production skills? Some clues you might look out for are: Other people, such as family friends or teacher...s, having difficulty understanding your child when they talk. Your child changing the sounds in their words? (e.g. saying tat instead of cat) Your child missing some of the sounds or syllables in their words? (e.g. saying ha instead of hat, or boon instead of balloon) If you have any questions or would like some more information about whether your childs speech sound production skills are appropriate for their age, feel free to contact us.

16.01.2022 Due to the beautiful warm weather appearing earlier than we expected we have started our Summer Routine this week! A reminder to families that they must PACK THEIR CHILDS HAT! We have limited spare hats and we will be starting the NO HAT NO PLAY rule where the children that have no hat can only play on the verandah. The sunscreen is also provided on the verandah when dropping off your children. Please apply this to your own child before letting them out the gate as the educators are in the play ground supervising. Feel free to leave your childs hat in the parent pockets provided in the rooms.

15.01.2022 ATTENTION PARENTS SENDING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL NEXT YEAR. Below is an attached link which allows you to search what Primary School your child is zoned for in 2021. Public schools are now longer flexible with families choosing and the child has to attend in the area they are zoned for (apart from the children attending St Catherines College and Christian College). Once you have clicked on the link, then click on Primary school (red button), then type in your home address and it will instantly show you where you are zoned. https://my.education.nsw.gov.au/school-finder

09.01.2022 Dear Families, I am writing to you to ask for further understanding around the importance of keeping the children, families and educators safe in this stressful period of COVID-19. These are scary and uncertain times but one thing we want to reassure you is we are doing our best to keep Skallywags Preschool a safe, clean and healthy environment for your children to attend. If any members of your family who are living at home with your children are getting tested for Covid-1...9, we ask that your child stays home until you receive the test as NEGATIVE and provide evidence of the text message to the centre. We are also asking you to please make sure your child stays at home if they display any of the following symptoms: Fever Sore throat Cough Fatigue Difficulty breathing Constant Running nose If your child is unwell in anyway or displays ANY of the above symptoms I will ask them to be picked up immediately. If children requires medication before arriving at school they ARE NOT to be at preschool. We understand that it may be frustrating having to keep your children home or picking them up early from preschool but my first and foremost responsibility as the Centre Director is to keep the children and educators safe in this environment. Chloe

07.01.2022 Don’t forget this week is PARTY WEEK!! Bring your child dressed in their swimmers and a towel. Make sure the swimmers cover your child’s shoulders and are sun safe, for example a sun shirt and board shorts. Also bring spare clothes in their bags and ensure EVERYTHING IS LABELLED. We will be watching movies, engaging in water play experiences and having pizzas for lunch with some party food treats. Pack a normal lunch box in the case that your child doesn’t eat pizza for lunch. The treats will not be substituting morning and afternoon tea so ensure you still pack adequate food for the day. We cannot wait to celebrate the end of 2020 with the children! We will be handing out the children’s portfolios this week

01.01.2022 Over the last couple of weeks the children have been investigating and exploring the life cycle of a Monarch Butterfly. This opportunity allowed the children to visually observe the developmental stages of this cycle. This intentional teaching experience allowed the children to explore their care giving skills, feel connected to the natural world and learn new facts about the world around them!

01.01.2022 A great read for families to gain a greater understanding of the importance of play and the skills and development that occurs throughout play experiences. https://inspiredplay.net/product/playguide/
