04.01.2022 A Roller Dance Skater's Christmas Song On the twelfth day of Christmas, my skater gave to me . . . 12 Sacks of Rhinestones... 11 Couples Dancing 10 Tempting Tangoes 9 Cups of Coffee 8 Wheels A'Rolling 7 Stones A'Tripping 6 Judges Scoring 5 Golden Medals 4 Fancy Foxtrots 3 Figure Circles 2 Pairs of Laces And a new bearing for my right wheel. Merry Christmas!

03.01.2022 Falling is one of those things that is just simply going to happen when we strap wheels to our feet. If you’re under the age of 16, you will probably bounce off... the ground like nothing happened! But once you are no longer getting ID’d for R16 movies, it gets a little scarier to fall!! . And I don’t blame you!! Learning to fall is a very important skill we must all learn and practise in order to feel safe on skates. Trust me, nothing is as bad as your first fall!! You learn pretty quick after that! But practising safe ways to come down, is crucial! . Here are some more tips I forgot to mention: Safety gear- as an artistic skater, I have never used any sort of safety gear. I started skating when I was 4 years old. I’ve had 22 years of falls practise so I wouldn’t wear gear unless I’m in a new environment like the skate park. PLEASE wear a helmet and knee pads to the skate park at the very least!! And of course wear that at the rink if that makes you feel safe! My only worry with safety gear is when wrist guards have the plastic on the palm. You have to be careful that it’s not going to slip on you and risk hitting your chin or damage the floor. Switch which side you practise falling on. You don’t always get a choice when you’re falling so practise both sides! Tuck your chin in! Concussions hurt! Try to get in the habit of tucking your chin to your chest to save yourself from hitting your head Core strength is so important for not only saving yourself before you fall but cushioning the blow and keeping your head of the ground. See how in my falls I go into like a hollow hold position? Yea try hitting that! Just roll with it! I’ve seen some stuff on tik tok especially about not falling with your hands out and while I agree, I don’t tend to tell people not to put their hands out as that can be dangerous too (like maybe you’re hand is out to protect your face) Falling sucks and it’s never going to be 100% safe. If you do have to put your hands out, roll with the momentum so you end up on your butt. Once you’re falling, you’re falling. Don’t fight it. Try go with it and roll. . Wear your bruises with pride! Skating is scary!! You’re doing awesome! Most people would be terrified to try what you’re doing and you’re out there doing it! You’re a badass!! . Do you practise falling? What’s your favourite way to fall? Tell me below! See more
