23.01.2022 This weekend we're welcoming Nicole Howell of Birdhouse Fibres as our November Sisters Spotlight! We have known Nicole as a customer since we opened, so we were very excited when she started on her new dyeing adventure this year. She's put together a gorgeous collection of sock yarns for us in the loveliest colours. Nicole says, "I've been a diligent collector of hand-dyed yarns for many years and decided I'd like to develop my own dyeing style - Birdhouse Fibres was born! I ...enjoy every part of the dyeing process and I find much inspiration in many places - food, music, wildlife, and the beautiful surroundings of my home on Sydney's Northern Beaches. I'm so looking forward to continuing to create yarns that bring pleasure to knitters and crocheters everywhere!" 16.01.2022 Introducing our October Sisters Spotlight, available tomorrow - Knit or Dye! Helen, the founder and owner of Knit or Dye, is an indie dyer based on Bribie Island, Queensland. As a trained marine biologist, Helen gains inspiration from the natural world, specifically animals, plants and landscapes native to Australia. Apart from dyeing yarn, Helen knits, crochets and spins, so knows the importance of good fibre. Her collection of hand dyed yarn is both beautiful, soft and prac...tical, an often tricky combination! Helen has always been ‘crafty’. As a child, she was shown by her parents that you can use your hands to make a living. She was exposed to fibre crafts at a young age and her obsessive personality trapped her in a yarn-shaped rabbit-hole! That same obsessive personality made fibre a very important practice to keep her anxieties in check. Helen is passionate about the environment and strives to make her environmental footprint as small as possible in all aspects of her life, including her business which uses recycled and compostable packaging and almost zero plastic. 12.01.2022 Say hello to Swatching Sunday! It’s time to get making some summery tops, but the swatches have to happen before I can cast on. The grey swatch is trying out @wooladdicts Sunshine for a short sleeved cotton Ranunculus by @knit_cafe_midori in this beautiful honey yellow. Next up is @malabrigoyarn Susurro in wear-with-everything Natural to make Reposado by @theacolman. I tried three needle sizes before the fabric looked even and lovely, and now I’ll block it to see what the gauge is. Finally I just had to try the new @bcgarn silk Tussah Tweed. Sometimes you fall in love with a yarn and have to swatch it first before you can decide what to make. So far I’ve tried a 3mm and a 4mm needle and will prob go up to a 6mm just to see how it behaves. Fun! Have you been swatching for a new cast on too? We’d love to see what you’re planning.

11.01.2022 In amongst all the craziness of getting ready for our Black Friday Sale, we took possession of the keys for a new premises! Just a few doors up the road from the shop, it’s going to have our office, online dispatch team and some warehousing and we’re so excited about all the new things we’re going to be able to do. Today it meant we could spread out all the Catona and Cahlista yarn as we picked orders. The best thing is, it means we can start up our classes again early next year! Watch this space!
