21.01.2022 Garden Hoes all done.fire welds stuck good considering the belting they got from the Massey power hammer to stretch and spread the steel. 19.01.2022 This how I made the curtain rod finial tool ,pt 1. It’s very rarely do you have the Wright size steel on hand so you have to get out what you’ve got, work out the amount you need to end up with the correct dimensions when finished forging .In this case I started out with a piece of 50 x 50 1045 steel 180 mm long and knocked it down to 115 x 55 x 80 . Considering that the rods themselves were upgraded to 42 mm rod we decided to make bigger finials out of 55 mm bar.A lot of work by hand. After they’ve been knocked down under the power hammer I give them a good hand hammering all over to get a nice hammer finish.It looks like a quick process to make the tooling needed but it isn’t .I left a lot of in between videos out as not to bore everyone to much.You want to make sure you have a lot of use for the tooling you forge as to make it worth it . 02.01.2022 Lately been getting request for hand made tools . 3 heavy duty garden Hoes this time. Customer requested a flat edge on the front of the eye.Jumped up some 40x40 bar to 50 x 50 to get the depth of the eye that I needed.once I fire weld this together will split the end and fire weld a strip of tool steel in for a hard wearing edge.
