25.01.2022 This National Skin Cancer Action Week, take a moment to check your own skin and have a peek at your loved ones too - there are always bits that are hard to see yourself
25.01.2022 Filler Lingo: "Tweakments" = small amounts of dermal filler, strategically and anatomically placed to subtly provide a refreshed look. Dermal filler doesnt have to look fake or overdone. Puffy cheeks and super-expanded lips are not for everyone ... Many of our patients just want to look happy & healthy, so that their face reflects how they feel inside. Helping to improve someones self-confidence is the best thing about this job See more
24.01.2022 It is....TRUE!! "No, you cannot mix AHAs with retinol! World renowned dermatologist, Professor Leslie Baumann, states that topical vitamin A derivatives should not be mixed with acids. Mixing acids particularly chemical exfoliants results in chemical breakdown, rendering the retinol totally ineffective. A waste, basically! We always recommend applying Vitamin A (in the form of HPR or stabilised retinol) and Vitamin B (niacinamide serum) in the evenings, and ...keeping your acidic solutions (like Reveal or Vitamin C products) for the morning " Thank you - @synergieskin! xx See more

If you meet these criteria and would like to be considered, please send a DM with photos to @dr_sarahboxley There will be a $250 cost for this treatment. Thank you See more
24.01.2022 Skincare is not just for girls 8 weeks ago we were interested (and collectively quietly horrified) when Dr. Andrew casually mentioned over lunch that he doesnt use any skincare We immediately whipped out our SkinXs program and 10 minutes later he was sorted. ... The SkinXS analysis is an artificial intelligence program that accurately "reads" the condition of the skin and categorises concerns into 8 distinct areas, enabling us to select the most appropriate active ingredients for each individuals unique needs. The SkinXS system takes into account the differences between male and female facial skin - male facial skin is generally 30% thicker than female skin, with a thicker outer layer (stratum corneum) that effectively reduces the absorption of active ingredients in skin care products. Male facial skin produces 75% more oil than female skin, making acne and skin conditions such as seborrhoeic dermatitis more common. (check out a blog post by @dr_sarahboxley about this - link in bio). We kept it simple for Dr. Andrew with O-Cleanser from @universkin and some sunscreen, plus 2 pharmaceutical grade serums with the following actives added AM: Arbutin 3%, VitC 7%, Niacinamide 4% PM: Niacinamide 4%, VitB5 5%, Phytic Acid 2% And look at the results! These pics are taken using our @clinicalimaging_systems professional photography, with a standardised filter overlaid to show pigment distribution. In just 8 weeks we can already see a dramatic improvement in his pigmentation, his skin is smoother and better hydrated See more

18.01.2022 P serum is so much more than just a base or carrier for Universkins 19 actives. Packed with exceptional skin supportive ingredients, Universkins P serum can also be used on its own to repair barrier impaired skin. This is to help minimise the risk of infective complications with your filler. 16.01.2022 Who knows the answer to this one? It is.... FALSE At The Skin Clinic, we love love LOVE the wonderful ÜberZinc from @synergieskin! Your number one anti-ageing product, the non-comedogenic formula does not clog pores and has added pure green tea for its potent antioxidant properties. A perfect little number to apply both morning and night.... It is important, however, to remember that ÜberZinc is recommended for broad-spectrum protection against LIGHT to MODERATE sun exposure. So while it may be perfect for your day-to-day activities, it is not designed to be used as a primary sunscreen if you are outdoors for extended periods during peak UV times or near reflective surfaces such as water or snow. So next you head to the beach, remember to apply a water-resistant, high concentration zinc designed for high UV exposure situations. 15.01.2022 Posted @withregram @synergieskin How well do you know your serums? Riddle us this: which one of these 3 products Ultimate A, Vitamin B and Reveal can't be used with the others? A: You can use Ultimate A & Vitamin B together. Keep Reveal separate! Here's why: ... Reveal is an advanced exfoliation serum that gently unclogs pores and improves the appearance of acne; a blend of 13% AHA / 2% BHA active ingredients (salicylic acid, mandelic acid, lactic acid & malic acid). Ultimate A's key ingredient is stabilised retinol, while Vitamin B contains 13% niacinamide. Mixing acids such as AHA’s, BHA’s or pure L-ascorbic acid crystals with niacinamide causes a chemical reaction that produces another compound, called nicotinic acid. Don't worry, it's not harmful at all: the most nicotinic acid can cause is facial flushing in a few cases. However, this nicotinic acid from mixing retinol with acidic products does neutralise the activity of retinol. In short, it makes it ineffective the two ingredients basically cancel each other out. What a waste! So, keep your acids and retinol separate. They work better apart! Bonus tip: we always recommend applying acids (like Reveal, or C products like SupremaC+) in the mornings, and retinoids (A products like Ultimate A or Acceler-A) & niacinamide (Vitamin B) at night. Sunshine can make retinoids less effective plus Ultimate A and Vitamin B are THE dream couple for overnight skin regeneration while you get your beauty sleep. Itching to ask a skincare question? 14.01.2022 Universkin is one of the very first companies to introduce biomimetic peptides into skincare products? But what are they? At the heart of Universkins research is the concept of biomimicry: Universkins scientists utilise biomimetic peptides in all of its cosmetic formulations to mimic the action of the bodys naturally occurring peptides, for the production of collagen and elastin, for controlling the production of melanin, and also for the repair, regeneration, an...d protection of the skin. As we age, the efficiency in the production of these naturally occurring peptides decreases. The result is less production of collagen, elastin and skin firmness, which lead to ageing of the skin. Incorporated into topically active skincare products, biomimetic peptides replace those peptides within the body that have become deficient in their function, effectively helping the skin to fight those signs of ageing. After years of research, the Universkin scientific team has identified four biomimetic peptides and their most effective concentrations: - Kollaren - Melitane - ECM protect - Thymulen Each one of these peptides helps to deliver a specific message to our skin cells and they are present in all of Universkin cosmetic products - P serum, cleanser, balm, H+ serum, and moisturisers. 13.01.2022 What is rosacea? Rosacea is a vascular condition of unknown origin, that typically affects the central facial region, including the forehead, nose, medial cheeks and chin. Occurring mostly in adults over 30, rosacea is commonly seen in both sexes, most often in women, but more severely in men. There appears to be a genetic component and current research suggests a link to the skins own natural immune system.... The majority of research has been done on caucasians, with fair skinned, fair haired and fair eyed individuals most affected. Rosacea does affect individuals of other races, and although not so visible in higher phototypes with darker skin tones, the symptoms remain the same. There are 4 subtypes of rosacea and it is possible to have a mixture of these: 1. Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (associated with facial redness, flushing, and visible capillaries) 2. Papulopustular rosacea (associated with acne-like breakouts) 3. Phymatous rosacea (also known as rhinophyma, associated with a thickening of the skin on the nose, most commonly affecting men). 4. Ocular rosacea (accompanied by a stinging, burning, itching sensation in the eyes). As well as all the above, skin affected by rosacea can often be dry and flaky, or oily. While there is no cure for rosacea, Subtypes 1 and 2 can be successfully managed with: *Prescription / therapeutic skincare *IPL *Kleresca biophotonic therapy *Prescription medications If you think you may have rosacea and would like help with your skin, please get in touch. 12.01.2022 SKIN TIGHTENING These pics are taken before and then 10days after a combination rejuvenation treatment to the lower lid by @dr_sarahboxley Here, Ive have used a combination of PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and DOT laser (CO2 fractional ablative laser) to tighten & reduce excess surface area. ... At 10 days, the area is still healing but you can already appreciate tightening of the periorbital skin and reduction in wrinkles. The results will continue to improve over the next 3-6 months. In this treatment, tiny precise microinjuries to the skin caused by the fractional laser initiate a healing cascade that leads to neocollagenesis. Its a way of using the bodys own resources to thicken and stabilise the skin of the lower lid, reducing the crepiness. The addition of PRP has a synergistic effect - as well as reducing the downtime, the growth factors in the PRP will assist the collagen-making process, leading to a superior outcome than using either treatment on its own. 11.01.2022 HAPPY KISSING DAY Today is International Kissing Day and there is no better day to celebrate the joys of lip filler. Lips are really fascinating, and there is truly no "one size fits all" when it comes to lip augmentation. Human lips naturally are different shapes, textures & thicknesses. A mature lip needs to be injected in a different way to a young lip. A different product needs to be used in a naturally loose, soft lip than you would choose for a firmer,... more solid type of lip. But however they are injected, they should always move naturally and look soft and kissable. But whatever the shape, size & feel of your lips, we hope you have someone (lover/child/pet/random stranger) to share them with on this happy day of kissing See more
10.01.2022 Subtle lips Interested in lip filler but scared of looking ducky or unnatural? Have a read of what our Medical Director @dr_sarahboxley has to say about this subtle lip filler treatment Dont be frightened of lip filler - it doesnt have to be large and rubbery or duck-like ... This beautiful young lady in her 30s has had some gentle support to her chin, with a light hydrating filler then injected into her actual lips. The proportions are in balance for her facial features, ethnicity and age. She naturally has a mild overbite with a slightly short upper lip and therefore a tendency to use the mentalis muscle of her chin to close her lips together. When we overuse some of the muscles around the chin area, it can contribute to a tense/worried message that does not correspond to our actual feelings. Choosing a dermal filler product with the correct rheology and placing it in a such as way as to support the muscle and reduce its activity, leads to a softer, happier-looking perioral area. 10.01.2022 Yesterday saw in-clinic training continuing with our newest staff member Daniella, who we will introduce to you very soon Training is key for confidence, experience and to perfect the treatment process and understand how different treatments can give the best outcome. As the Senior De...rmal Therapist I got to lie down for half an hour today (which was much appreciated) to ensure our lovely Daniella firstly felt good about performing her treatment and also so I can guide her to a point where I feel she is confident and performs the treatment to a very high clinical standard and one our clients have come to expect. A good Dermal Therapist is hard to find, remember they have additional certification, usually an Advanced Diploma in Cosmetic Dermal Science which involves in-depth study and practical training in more advanced treatments. A good Dermal Therapist can treat skin concerns and push the boundaries but weigh up the risks in terms of potential complications, always striving for the safest and most results orientated treatments and advice. #insafehands #dermaltherapyperth #dermaltherapists #werock See more
09.01.2022 Acne treatment doesnt have to be harsh. These results were achieved by @amanda.dermal.therapist using six Kleresca treatments over a 2-week period, in conjunction with an appropriate cosmeceutical skin care regime. Kleresca harnesses the power of biophotonics (fancy physics to do with light & chromophores) to safely treat your acne and stimulate the skins own repair systems. The treatment uses a high-intenstiy in-clinic lamp together with a photoconverter gel ...to painlessly: - reduce acneic bacteria on the skin - reduce inflammation - balance oil production - regulate the natural immune function of the skin Each treatment lasts 25-45 minutes, including cleansing, application, activation and removal of the gel. These photos are taken before and 6-weeks after our "short course" of Kleresca. 09.01.2022 A very common inquiry in the clinic! Here is the low down from Dr. Sarah... "Very few actual scientific studies have been conducted looking particularly at the safety of cosmetic procedures during lactation (breastfeeding). Clearly, the main concern in this situation is the possibility of chemicals or medications being absorbed into the mothers system and from there excreted into her breast milk, which could potentially affect neonatal growth and development. Rev...iew articles in Dermatological Surgery in 2013 and in the International Journal of Womens Dermatology 2017 both summarised that most cosmetic procedures are safe to use during lactation since there is low concern for significant systemic absorption of any of the agents used in these procedures. Scientifically speaking, the doses of anti-wrinkle injections that are used cosmetically are very small compared to the doses used for medical reasons and carry only a very low risk of systemic absorption into the mother. On top of this, the molecular size of neuromodulators, and incidentally of dermal filler materials, make them incredibly unlikely to be excreted into breast milk, with their use in lactation being deemed by experts to be safe. However, despite this consensus opinion, the use of these products in lactating mothers remains off-label. No large scale studies have been (or will be) performed, and so as prescription medications they are not technically licensed for use during breastfeeding. For patients who remain concerned, we recommend the pump & dump technique continued breastfeeding with pumping and discarding the breast milk in the first 24 hours after treatment. Dermal filler procedures are safe to have when you are breastfeeding, as long as you are physically well with no symptoms of mastitis or any other infection/illness." Dr. Sarah Boxley is the Medical Director at The Skin Clinic Fremantle. She is on the faculty of the Allergan Medical Institute, sits on Medical Advisory Boards for dermal filler products and is a principal investigator in clinical trials. 09.01.2022 Ahh look at that G L O W Have you tried EnLighten yet from @synergieskin? EnLighten is a fabulous topical treatment for tackling hyperpigmentation and sun damage.... With a potent complex of tyrosinase inhibitors and natural skin brighteners, EnLighten reduces the activity of cells that produce melanin. In doing this, EnLighten minimises the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is therefore often recommended for daily use 2 weeks prior to commencing IPL/Laser/Peels. See more
08.01.2022 SKIN PICKING "Skin-picking can be a sensitive subject. In the aesthetic dermatology industry, we see it frequently amongst our patients, many of whom are surprised to hear it is an actual thing and that they are not alone." Also known as excoriation disorder, or compulsive skin picking, dermatillomania is a psychological condition that is expressed in the form of repetitive touching, scratching, picking, and digging at ones own skin. It is an impulse-control dis...order and one of several body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRB) currently classified in the DSM-5 as Obsessive Compulsive and Related Disorders. Dermatillomania affects up to 5% of the population and approximately 75% of those affected are female. However, not all people who pick their skin have dermatillomania. 07.01.2022 We Vitamin C, we SupremaC+ ! Have you read Synergie founder Terri Vinsins blog post about it yet? Heres a snippet... ......... Vitamin C is such an essential part of cosmeceutical skin care. I consider it to be the great skin fortifier; a powerful antioxidant that is able to protect the cells from damage. Not all vitamin C is created equal, however! As a cosmetic chemist, I will only formulate with L-ascorbic acid as it is the form of vitamin C that the cells recognise. Evidence suggests that other forms of vitamin C derivatives are less effective. Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP) exhibits low absorption through the skin due to charge on the molecule, and ascorbyl palmitate is not as effective on the cells. When it comes to formulating Synergie Skin products, I refer to my SEED principle. S IS FOR STABILITY - The ingredient must not be prone to oxidation or breakdown E IS FOR EFFICACY - The ingredient must actually work and have data to support the benefits. E IS FOR ELEGANCE - The ingredient must have that feel good quality and the customer must want to use it. As well as touch and feel, the product must not have an unpleasant fragrance. D IS FOR DELIVERY - The cosmeceutical active ingredients must be able to reach its target cell to create the desired biological effects. 07.01.2022 Wondering what to expect from your miraDry sweat treatment? Involving NO surgical incisions or cuts, the miraDry procedure is QUICK and PAINLESS. First, local anesthesia is painlessly administered to the underarms to maintain comfort during the procedure. Then the miraDry handpiece is held against the skin of the underarm region, to deliver precisely controlled energy that directly treats the sweat glands themselves. ... A single treatment will generally only take about one hour! During this time you can lie back and watch some Netflix or listen to some music ! To maximize the results and duration, we recommend two procedures spaced three months apart, although some patients with a lower level of original sweating will only require one treatment! 06.01.2022 Think this is a post about food? Hmm, sorry but it is actually a post about vaginal lubrication, and specifically about how what happens to it as we mature.... As we age, we can see the changes on our face - loss of volume, reduced skin elasticity & less hydration. But did you know that similar changes happen to our vaginas?? With age and diminishing oestrogen production, the mucosal lining of the vagina gets thinner and is less able to produce the glycosaminogl...ycans (GAGs) that make up our normal vaginal discharge. The entire ecosystem of the lady-garden changes - fewer GAGs mean less food for the healthy bacteria that live there, which can tip the balance over in favour of yeasts and the less-healthy bacteria that dont need as much sugary food. Less GAGs also leads to dryness and discomfort during sex, which affects 50% (YES, HALF!!) of menopausal women. Dont panic! There are a number of ways to make your lady-garden lubricious again: Vaginal moisturiser such as Replens is available from the pharmacist Vaginal oestrogen, either as cream or pessaries, can be useful for women who are able to use hormones Laser treatments such as those we use to regenerate facial skin can also be used to painlessly restore vitality to the mucosal layer of the vagina - increasing your production of natural discharge & GAGs. 03.01.2022 PIGMENTATIONrepost from @dr_sarahboxley Most of us have our little "secret" formulations that we use for custom-made compounded creams, and this is an example of mine. These images have been taken before and then after 3-months of using a prescription-strength compounded cream to target hyperpigmentation. ... The photos are taken with the standardised lighting of our @clinicalimagingsystems and then a special filter is placed over both images simultaneously to highlight the melanin in the skin. As you can see, there has been a significant improvement in the excessive pigment that was trapped in the superficial dermis & epidermis. There are a number of ways to manage hyperpigmentation and the success (or not!) depends upon correctly identifying the cause, which layer of skin contains the excess melanin and what the background skin type is. The cream used in this case is not a quick fix - it targets a number of processes along the pigmentation pathway and gradual improvement is seen over a number of "skin cycles" - ie the time it takes for a skin cell to mature and rise from the bottom to the top of the epidermis. Of course, there are many treatment options available for excess pigmentation. Get in touch if you would like to organise a personal consultation

02.01.2022 DERMAPLANING Team work Lovely pic from @victoria.dermal.therapist of @amanda.dermal.therapist dermaplaning on our beautiful clinic receptionist @jemmmac! Dermaplaning is a painless, physical exfoliation treatment performed with the edge of a surgical scalpel blade. In this treatment, your dermal therapist will gently scrape off dead skin cells and light fuzzy hairs to leave your skin silky soft and glowing!... A lovely bonus of this treatment is that your skincare products will penetrate more easily once the dead skin is removed (and therefore will be more effective)! Also, make-up such as foundation will sit more easily on your skin! Link in bio for more info! xx See more

02.01.2022 EYELIDS Posted @withregram @dr_sarahboxley An upper lid blepharoplasty is such a satisfying procedure to perform. This little redundant flap of skin, who needs it?? ... Excess upper lid skin tends to be genetic and develops as our skull matures in shape. The skin flops down towards the lashline (and in some cases hangs over the lashes) where it can: Obstruct the upper visual field Restrict the amount of light entering the eye Cause a heavy sensation and a feeling of tiredness To counteract all of these, we raise our brows to lift the excess skin up and out of the way. This in turn leads to: Horizontal forehead lines A constantly startled or surprised expression Headaches So, snip snip & off it comes I'm being a bit flippant - it's not a procedure that is suitable for everyone, there is some downtime and there are some risks involved. But, for many patients it is a simple procedure that can be done under local anaesthetic as a day case. Results tend to conservatively last 5-10 years (your skull carries on ageing and so the skin that remains can descend further) *apologies for the eyeliner in the after pic * See more
