15.01.2022 It’s important to remember that while we take due care to ensure your piercing is off to a great start, we are not medical professionals. If you think you have a keloid scar, visit a doctor for a proper diagnosis. Keloids are an overgrowth of scar tissue and collagen caused by trauma to the skin and are often formed after the injury (or piercing) has healed. They aren’t harmful and don’t require treatment, however, they can usually be removed or minimised by a medical profess...ional if the client finds it unattractive. They really aren’t as common as people think and are often confused with hypertrophic scarring/pressure bubbles, although some people can be prone to them. We advise people with a history of keloid scarring to reconsider their desire for a piercing. These types of scars can sometimes grow back, even after removal. If it’s not a keloid scar, it’s important to find the underlying issue (eg. piercing placement, jewellery quality, whether it’s being touched or bumped etc.) and make sure it doesn’t continue. You can visit your nearest clinic for a free check-up, where one of our professional piercers can advise you on what steps you can take. See more
