25.01.2022 Whilst using your day cream before bed won’t necessarily cause harm, it may not be doing enough for your skin whilst you sleep. During the day, skin is subject to damaging UV rays, pollution, environmental stresses and makeup. So creams designed for use during the day are primarily focused on protection and support. They contain SPF to prevent burning and photo-aging, antioxidants to fight free radicals and ingredients like caffeine to make skin look energised and firm. ... Nighttime is when the skin does it’s heavy lifting. The hours just before lights out are the time when sebum production hits an all-day low. This means your skin is better at absorbing active ingredients to a deeper level. Like the rest of the body, skin does the bulk of its repairing, restoring and regenerating while we sleep, so night creams are focused more on moisture and recovery. They contain the most powerful, slow absorbing ingredients that are designed to penetrate over a course of several hours. They can also contain the highest concentrations of anti-aging ingredients like retinol, glycolic acid and hyaluronic acid which are able to do their work without interference from sunscreens. Night creams are also often richer, thicker or heavier than day creams. So again, while it’s not going to be harmful to apply your day cream at night it’s also not going to give your skin the best hydration, outcome and results. The decision of whether to use two moisturisers or one is ultimately a personal choice, we believe using a day cream that designed for the AM and a night cream designed for the PM will keep your skin looking it’s best

And yes, if in the sun/outdoors, you will need to reapply every two to three hours. This is necessary while in the sun for the best protection. The ingredients in sunscreen are more stable than ever before, but still do not last all day.... But SPF isn’t the whole story. The SPF rating only measures the solar energy of UVB rays. UVB rays are responsible for sunburn and most melanomas, so you definitely want to send them packing. But it’s the UVA rays that cause wrinkles and other signs of aging. Odds are, you’d also like to repel the rays that can be reversing all the good work your retinol and ahas are doing to keep your skin looking it’s best! To protect against UVA and UVB, look for the magic words broad-spectrum sunscreen. You may or may not find them on your favourite makeup products and if not, you’ll definitely want a high-SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen as a base layer.
