21.01.2022 Community spirit we're into it. One of the greatest things to come from times like these (aside from some damn incredible batches of banana bread) is community spirit. Communities banding together. Giving hope to those suffering through some very challenging times. Turret Cafe and Catering have community spirit at their core. While facing their own challenges in running a hospitality business amidst lockdowns, Carmel West and the epic Turret Cafe team ...took it upon themselves to help those most vulnerable. The Turret Café is partnering with Berry Street and WRISC Family Violence Support Inc. to pay it forward. Berry Street provides care for children, young people and families recovering from violence, abuse and neglect. By paying it forward with a Turret Cafe meal, you can help give someone that glimmer of hope that they're not in this alone. You can pre-purchase a single meal, a family meal from Turret Cafe's menu on Skip, and that meal will be lovingly prepared and provided to a Berry Street or WRISC Family Violence Support Inc. family or individual in need. 21.01.2022 Not all heroes wear capes right now, theyre wearing scrubs. Meet the team at The Alfred ICU. The heroic healthcare workers, those on the front line showing dedication and passion to ensure the safety of our communities. As the COVID-19 situation progressed, the rules at the Alfred meant their staff were no longer permitted to leave their clinic areas, unless they changed twice - a near impossible feat in a 30 min lunch break. This meant coffee and food were o...ff the table. Their specialist medical team have been working round the clock - caring for those critically ill, dealing with very distressed families, wearing PPE and washing in disinfectant before they go home. No access to coffee was nearly the last straw Head of ICU , Cathy approached us for a solution. She says: "Our approach to Skip for a solution was met with a tremendous sense of urgency and empathy. You got it and you got on with fixing the situation It is important that you know what an impact you have had with the staff on the frontline. Every day I receive emails saying thanks for making Skip happen the coffee delivery staff have been told multiple times how much the service is appreciated. The 36 ICU doctors on Cathys floor are sometimes Skipping several times a day, no longer needing to run in and out and use up precious break time queueing for coffee. "We have been shown a great deal of kindness over the past weeks from generous companies and the community your support has had a great impact and is making a direct difference to the wellbeing of our medical staff our most sincere thanks for a job well done and please, please, keep going so that we can help all of the doctors and nurses on all of the wards, so that staff do not feel isolated and go without food and coffee Our hearts skip a beat being able to provide this kind of support, and to help keep these incredibly dedicated professionals fed and caffeinated. Service with a smile The Village Coffee story The Village story serendipitously began earlier than was originally expected. Marlo was half way through a Naturopath degree, wanting to get that under way, when a cafe space became available where she grew up. She had a gut feeling it would be just perfect and the rest is history! The Village Coffee passion "The people. Our motto is "Good Food, Good Coffee & Good Company" and I think the company is my absolute favourite. We have a wonderful community in Marmion and on top of that the staff are wonderful. We are really looking forward to a big party at the end of all of this." What keeps them going Marlo says: "Wine. But seriously, it would be my amazing staff. The team have helped me so much, when I felt overwhelmed by the sudden restrictions to trade they helped me come up with new ideas on how we can keep going. From that day onward she promised myself to never stray away from her passions and to encourage her community to do the same! Em and her family began to refurbish a 1970s Kombi camper that hadnt been started in 20 years, and has never looked back! Businesses have innovated, people have adapted, the industry has pivoted. In times of change and insane challenge, our hospo fam has banded together. This incredible community is humming with creativity and compassion!
