25.01.2022 Spontaneous ignition is the leading cause of haystack fire in Victoria, and just one damp bale is enough to ignite a haystack. CFA Commander Luke Waterson takes you through some ways to prevent haystack fires starting on your property
24.01.2022 Throughout the fire danger period, Victorians who own properties in bushfire prone areas are encouraged and, in some instances, required to undertake fire prepa...redness activities. Activities include cutting grass, clearing gutters, removing growth from around any dwellings and generally removing fuel from the property to reduce the risks of bushfire. If you live in metropolitan Melbourne and own property in regional Victoria, you can only travel to that property if you have been issued with a Fire Prevention Notice requiring you to undertake fire preparedness work, or if you have received local council permission to travel for fire or emergency preparedness activities on that property. If you live in metropolitan Melbourne you cannot travel to regional Victoria to help your family members or friends prepare their property, unless they are elderly or infirm and you are their caregiver. If you live in metropolitan Melbourne you can travel to your second property, holiday home or business to repair damage caused by an emergency. You should carry with you evidence of property ownership and, if available, evidence of damage (i.e. photos, insurance claim etc). 17.01.2022 Sandbags around infrastructure Some of you may have noticed Central Highlands Water crews preparing some of their infrastructure along the creek banks with plastic wrap and sandbags. This work has been done to try and minimise some of the impact a high flow down the creek has on the infrastructure.... These cabinets are constructed on low lying flood plains that get inundated regularly. There is no current flood warning or flood watch advice issued for our catchment. Warnings and stream levels can be found on the BOM website and the VicEmergency App and website. (C.H) http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/flood/rain_river.shtml https://emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/
