25.01.2022 A message to the players, members and supporters of the Skipton FNC Greg Middleton has informed us that he is unable to continue as senior coach for the 2021 season due to illness in his family. We wish Greg and his family all the very best, and are fully supportive of the decision he has had to make. We are very comfortable that Greg is making the right call. I must take an opportunity to thank Greg for his time at Skipton, we have been through a lot in his time with th...e club, from the early struggles to recruit and associated lack of success on one hand, to having both senior and reserve sides playing finals football in 2019 on the other. Without Greg’s passion and determination, none of this improvement would have been possible. His optimism and honest relationship with the playing group has helped put our club in a solid position to improve further. We look forward to seeing Greg, Elise and kids family visiting Skipton in the future, because as we know, #emu4life! The club will be advertising the Senior position this weekend and will also be making contact with a few potential candidates to invite applications. This is a situation that is not ideal, but one we can make the best of, taking the opportunity to set us up for the future and build on the foundation laid by Greg over the last three seasons. Andrew Bodman - President SkiptonFNC

23.01.2022 AN UPDATE FROM THE PRESIDENT I would like to give everyone an update, as far as I am able, on the 2020 Season. By this time we were supposed to have a couple of options to pick from for a return to play. Unfortunately our club, the CHFL, AFL Victoria and the state government all have the same information, which is not much. The original deadline of the 31st of May has come and gone, continuing cases of Covid 19 and the extension of the state of emergency in Victoria l...ook to have caused further delay. As you may have seen this has been too much for some leagues around the state, with several country competitions and couple of metropolitan leagues canceling this year completely. At this stage the Central Highlands Football and Netball Leagues are still working to give us some options for a safe return to play with full community engagement and minimal restrictions. They are trying to make the best of the situation and hopefully present the clubs with some viable and palatable options. Our committee are keeping a close eye on the situation and if we get the chance to make a decision, will be basing our thinking on all aspects of our club and community, including social, financial, and junior engagement. Over the last couple of weeks there has been some relaxation of the rules regarding organised training , unfortunately at this stage club training is still impractical and we would be looking for further easing to start in an organised manner. I must give credit to our players, a good core group have been doing individual programs and now are able to train together in small groups on a casual basis. The Senior football players have been working together on an app, with various challenges between them and plans from Greg Middleton . The Senior netball have been well led by new coach Lauren Williams, who has done an outstanding job of keeping the enthusiasm levels high with Facebook live sessions. At this stage the bar and meals are unable to resume, but we are keeping watch on the rules hoping to return to some normality. I won’t be making predictions either way about what our future is, other than that the worst aspect, the uncertainty, looks to continue for the moment. Like everyone I am very keen to have a day out with everyone, whatever form it takes. All the best to all, we hope to have more information for you very soon. Andrew Bodman. 12.01.2022 UPDATE ON RETURN TO PLAY - FOOTBALL Latest news from the CHFL. Last night at a league meeting the season situation was discussed at length. In a somewhat heated meeting, all clubs took the opportunity to put their views across.... The outcome - To further survey our club and players and meet again on the 29th June to vote on a return to play date of the 25th July. The likely scenario is eight rounds and two weeks of finals, season to finish on the 3rd of October. If the majority vote for a return, the competition would include senior footy for those clubs that wish to play, full juniors where possible and maybe one grade of senior netball. Our football players will be surveyed in the coming days for their most up to date views. For the competition to go ahead a minimum of nine clubs need to support a return. No club would be made to compete. Therefore a 2020 season could consist of the bare 9 clubs. Our clubs position on returning to play - with minimum restrictions in place and maximum community involvement allowed was conveyed to the meeting. I ask all to consider again what this potential season means to you personally, we fully understand that opinions may change with time and further information. Any resumption is of course dependent on the state government further relaxing restrictions and AFL Vic giving the go ahead. Feel free to call us if you have any questions - Andrew (0417 541 545) or Simone (0409 312 335) Or feel free to comment on this post, and Andrew Bodman or Simone Smith can answer your questions and everyone can be kept up to date. Regards Andrew Bodman Club President

04.01.2022 Junior Football Update The upcoming return to play for the junior football sides is a very exciting development for what has been an extremely disrupted 2020. We are very pleased to offer a chance to play to our keen youngsters. ... As has been noted in the media we have some extra players coming out of the BFL and Mininera League topping up our player lists. These players include some returning locals, players from the broader district and a few Ballarat based mates. As much as is possible in the current socially restricted times, we need to make everyone welcome and feel that they are a part of Skipton Football Netball Club. The sooner everyone settles in to become part of the team and an Emu, the quicker they will gel as a side and enjoy some success and development as players. This is primarily about getting a competition going and I urge those that come to games to keep this in mind, because unfortunately this can’t be the social outing we are all looking for. The government and AFL Vic prefer spectators to remain in their cars if possible, while those watching from the boundary MUST remember the social distancing rules. Groups of people huddled around a fire will jeopardise the chances of this continuing, as well as making life difficult for those trying to remind everyone of Covid protocols. Parents need to let their kids know that this isn’t a chance to charge around with their mates. We all need to take responsibility to help people remember to observe the protocols, we can’t leave it up to a few to police, whether we be at home or away. Everyone will make mistakes including myself, I hope we can all treat requests to follow the Covid protocols with good humour. Most of all we ask for everyone’s patience and that we can all make the best of the opportunity for our teams to play. Andrew Bodman Club President #emu4life
