25.01.2022 Neat little install we finished two weeks ago. Little Tip! The return on investment for solar is usually quite fast! An average home solar system has a return of about 3-5 years. That's like putting your money in the bank and getting 25% interest. 24.01.2022 This is a great example of where, SMA ShadeFix technology comes in handy. As you can see here the sun is setting and a few of these solar panels are partially shaded by the roof. 99% of solar systems would see a huge drop in solar output caused by this small amount of shade, (as panels in a row will match the lowest panel output, ie the shaded panel). You may not be able to tell, but because this system has an SMA inverter with their proprietary "ShadeFix" technology, the sys...tem will continue to have steady output even with partial shade. Otherwise this mistake can cost thousands over the life of the system.... Clean Energy Councils guidelines say that the panels should not shade each other during winter solstice (between 10AM and 2PM). 16.01.2022 This is a special one! The boys had a great time installing this one! Xavier, one of Sky's top electricians, worked with us to install this for his dad, Matt. Xavier grew up in Echuca and we learned that he's almost as cool as his dad. ... Jokes aside, this is a tight 10KW SMA system which is sized up to look after about 40-50KWh of usage per day, on average. Solar batteries can also be added down the track, or the whole home can go "off the grid". It's always a good idea to keep your options open this way when installing solar. 11.01.2022 We have a confession. When we installed this solar system, the roof leaked. The tiles were old, brittle, terracotta and a few days after we left the installation it rained. Water flowed over the edge of a warped tile, (bent by the passage of time) and flowed into the roof. This isn't the first time this has happened either. When installing solar heavy work is happening on the roof. Things can go wrong, leaks can spring, even up to 24 months later. ... This is why Sky Energy offer a two year Roof Guarantee service (as part of our SkyCare program). This means if your roof leaks within two years from the solar installation, our team will come out, fix the problem and repair any damages to be as brand new. It's always unfortunate when the roof leaks! But as in the case above we had a team out on site within a few hours and everything was repaired in a timely fashion. 10.01.2022 Congrats to, Sam in Torquay on his awesome solar and LG Battery system! This particular battery system has blackout protection as well. Blackout protection means Sam's house will run 'off grid', (supplying the home with power from the battery) during a blackout. With so many people curious about blackout protection at the current moment let's revisit the three levels of protection you can get: 1. Partial Backup (Sungrow, LG Battery, pictured above...) During a blackout essential parts of the home will stay online. This is usually the lighting, fridge (and freezer), TV and/or internet. Some also find this very useful for keeping their security systems online. 2. Full Home Backup (SMA Sunny Storage and LG Battery) The entire home will have power during a blackout period. These types of systems can run either indefinitely 'off grid' with the solar recharging the battery each day OR will run until the battery is flat (then the grid will be needed for the battery to return to life). It's important to know the difference when you plan on using your battery for extended blackouts of more than a day. As a side note, while this system will power the whole home it may struggle with some high demand appliances like air conditioners, pumps and large ovens. 3. Off Grid (SMA Sunny Island BYD/PowerPlus Battery) This type of system means the home is completely cut off from the grid at all times. While fully self sufficient, it does mean you usually need more batteries to give you the extra buffer of usable power. You may also need a small generator to charge the batteries in an emergency. 08.01.2022 This is a special one! The boys had a great time installing this one! Xavier, one of Skys top electricians, worked with us to install this for his dad, Matt. Xavier grew up in Echuca and we learned that hes almost as cool as his dad. ... Jokes aside, this is a tight 10KW SMA system which is sized up to look after about 40-50KWh of usage per day, on average. Solar batteries can also be added down the track, or the whole home can go "off the grid". Its always a good idea to keep your options open this way when installing solar. The red SMA inverters are for the solar and the black and white SMA inverter interfaces between the solar system, home and LG battery and knows when to 'charge' and 'discharge' battery power. The beauty of SMA inverters is they are the only fanless and therefore silent inverters in the world. No moving parts also mean they are more reliable and able to keep saving money for many more years! (we've seen working SMA inverters 18 years after they've been installed)

03.01.2022 Every now and then an extra special project comes across our solar-powered desks. This exciting installation includes six LG HV Batteries that can run this large house 'off-grid' during a blackout (across three phases). This means when there's a blackout, the lights will stay on. Big props to the team (Sam, Xavier and Mike) who worked extra hard to centre the batteries to the wall and also to the inverters. I think Sam was measuring this up for about three da...ys, haha. This means, Sandra can add batteries and cut off the grid down the track! If you think you might want to eventually take your solar system fully, "off grid" (AKA, no more power company), then it's worthwhile making sure your inverter is off grid compatible!
