25.01.2022 Oh my! The Iwako erasers have arrived and I am sooo flippin' excited! It gives me a thrill to open the boxes and see that what I have ordered not only meets but exceeds my expectations! I have loved Iwako for years and years, ever since I found them in a little store in Brisbane many moons ago! My children have had them ever since I found them but I also use them in my art too when I need an odd shape to help me out! You'd be surprised where a little paw or flipper can help you when you need a fine line! They are also PERFECT end of year school classroom gifts too! Sugar free, gluten free, nut free Ben from Iwako has been sending me images of how the Japanese set up their stationery stores too... safe to say it's love for me!
25.01.2022 AFTERPAY NOW AVAILABLE I got the great news this evening! Afterpay is now available for any purchases over $100 and is available in store (at markets and in person orders only). I will update you all when my webstore upgrades their integrations! If you are wanting to use Afterpay on an online order, please call 0435 210 291 and we will organise an alternative way to order.
23.01.2022 Just letting all of my current students know that I just sent an email out regarding enrolments for term 4. Thanks to all families who have filled out their forms already. For those interested in classes for Term 4, I will open enrolments later this afternoon! Cheers, Kate
23.01.2022 It has arrived!! I was so excited to receive my order from Japan yesterday full of BGM washi tape, Nichiban tape dispensers and Kakuyo dot glue tapes. It's all live on the webstore now! The tape is stunning! The foil tapes literally shine and the colours on all of them are divine!
23.01.2022 A quick little video for anyone wondering how to get into Split Spaces from Wood Street. I won’t win an Oscar for this.... I had to speed up and slow down, flip AND rotate the video because I filmed it completely wrong.....oops! Hope this helps! Can’t wait to see everyone next week!
22.01.2022 ARGH! My email address is giving my grief I am so sorry to my families! I am in the process of getting an email setup that hopefully will not be directly delivered to your junk mail boxes! In the meantime, the homework for week 3 has been up since Sunday. Hopefully you have all been able to access it! See you all tomorrow and Saturday!
17.01.2022 Something I have learned lately is that a gmail account, whilst very convenient when setting up a small business where you haven't tested your market yet is not very 'deliverable'. Meaning that a lot of email servers will automatically send an email from gmail that has multiple recipients straight into junk mail. Eek! That's why a lot of my students haven't been getting their emails easily. To rectify that, I have setup [email protected] All the new correspondence from me regarding class information and homework will be sent from this new address. The old gmail address is still fully functional so please don't stress if you send an email to the old one, but keep your eyes peeled for the new kid on the block!
16.01.2022 Soooo beyond proud of each and every one of my students this week!!! It's been absolutely massive! My advanced students are close to being finished the pages of their book! They are all feeling excited to see it finished- some of them pulled double classes this week and took work home to get it done! And my Exploring Drawing kids not only tackled a still life this week but learned about perspective and proportion AND light direction! Phew! Big high fives all round, you cannot keep the grin off my face for long when I think about all the amazing hard work I have seen this week! My students are all superstars! #skyfallstudioart #studentart
16.01.2022 Getting our new store ready is definitely going to be a family affair! Darcy was very insistent on helping us mop the floors! Still a looooong way to go but I am so excited!
16.01.2022 what will social distancing look like at drawing classes? We will be having one desk per child in the class- I am lucky that Split Spaces has 8 desks! And I have created class sets of drawing materials in their own individual boxes. Each box has pencils, blending stumps, scissors, a rubber and kneadable eraser. Separately, there is also a class set of transparent rulers. (Plus colouring in pencils, charcoal, soft pastels and oil pastels and watercolour paint- these will... be used futher into the term). At the beginning of each class, students will arrive, use hand sanitizer, put on their apron and name badge, complete Crazy Login (more on that in class!) and pick a box that is their materials for that lesson, plus a ruler and glue stick. Students will be encouraged and taught how to use the items in the box, and how to clean them up ready for the next class. This will include sharpening the pencils, rasping the blending stumps and ensuring all the items are in the box before returning it. I will then spray the boxes with disinfectant so the boxes are clean and ready for the other classes. The bonus of these boxes is that even though the students will not be owning the materials in the sense that they will be taking them home, they will be able to learn how to care for their art materials to ensure their longevity and quality of use. I can't wait to see everyone! There are still a very few amount of spaces left if anyone is thinking of joining us!
14.01.2022 I am so excited to give the all ok to my friends at POP Press for the designs for my class set of aprons! I still have some places left, but they are getting less and less by the day. I cannot wait to see all the new faces and welcome some familiar faces from my online classes in person! I couldn't resist sneaking a little tribute to my grandmother in the design who was a painter and always loved art. ... If anyone would like some more details about the classes please let me know, or just fill out a form here: https://forms.gle/35PyWSDtNoaPVcw99
12.01.2022 Anyone else’s little one obsessed with Bluey? My kids are in love and have been since the start. It’s such a wonderful show. I have never drawn Bluey before and I have always wanted to. I was going to draw her a few times before I posted this but I am all about being realistic with your artwork and letting kids know its cool to have wobbles and bits you want to work harder on. Doesn’t mean you can’t still be proud! #fanart #bluey #nevertoooldforfanart
10.01.2022 Phew! First full term of drawing classes are done and dusted! Thanks so much to all my beautiful students for working so hard this term. You are all absolute superstars!
09.01.2022 Happy one year anniversary Skyfall! It's quite intimidating putting your art out there. It's something that requires a lot of self confidence and belief in yourself. Those are not usually qualities that I would have used to describe myself. I had big plans for art this year and of course Covid happened and squashed some of them, but it also made other plans unexpectedly flourish. Thankyou to everyone for coming along the journey with me. Thankyou for the likes and the shares.... Thankyou for the commissions and the requests for murals. Thankyou to Peta Jeppesen for telling me how good drawing classes would be for kids and actively encouraging me to feed that side of my journey. And thankyou to my families for trusting part of your kids art education to me. I can't wait to meet all the new faces this week and to catch up with some of my zoom kids again. And big love to my husband who has always been my first 'like-er', as you can see in the image below. Always encouraging me and pushing me ahead when I get all up in my head. It's so motivating to have a big support at home who doesn't just tell you what you want to hear but what you need to hear and gives you confidence to keep going. Can't wait to see what the next year has in store for us!
06.01.2022 Week 2 of class is now done and dusted! Students (and parents!) please keep an eye out for the homework email which should be now with you all. This week we learned about the 5 Elements of Shape, focusing on circles and dots and ended the class with a Kawaii Style Dragon. Big high fives to all the kids- every single one produced great work! Kawaii means 'cute' in Japanese but it has turned into a subculture all of its own. In terms of our drawing we are looking at rounded, ...large heads, smaller bodies, anthropomorphism (yes the kids learned that word!) and lots of circles and dots! My absolutely favourite part of the week was one of my smaller students, who was so down on herself and thought she couldn't draw along, running up to me at the end with the hugest grin and giving me a hug and saying she was so proud of herself and her drawing. Best part of teaching ever!
05.01.2022 I am escaping the art room today.... my classes are on a 2 week break so I can focus on some fun drawings. This one has been a WIP since March... then Covid hit and my brain was just too distracted to finish him. But my new battery-operated eraser arrived and it's an absolute game changer! It inspired me to get this guy finished! #skyfallstudioart #graphite #drawing
