25.01.2022 Happy Women's History Month! At A Mighty Girl, we take pride in highlighting women, girls, and their remarkable accomplishments year-round, but this special mon...th provides a wonderful opportunity to show the broader community why it's so important for both girls and boys to learn about women's contributions to history. To do so, all during this month, we'll continue to share the stories of girls and women throughout history and around the world, with special attention to lesser-known but equally amazing women whose stories have too often been consigned to the footnotes of history books. Our Mighty Girls of today will be our history makers of tomorrow. We can’t wait to see all that they will do and create and be. In the meantime, it is our honor to inspire them with the stories of the girls and women who came before them. If you'd like to find books about inspiring women in history to share with children and teens this month, A Mighty Girl features the world's largest women's history collection for young readers. To browse our collection of over 900 titles -- which is sortable by recommended reader age and area of specialization using the left menu filters -- visit our "Biography" section at https://www.amightygirl.com/boo/history-biography/biography If you'd like to view our full selection of both history and historical fiction about girls and women, featuring more than 1,400 books for children and teens, visit our "History & Biography" section at https://www.amightygirl.com/books/history-biography And, to discover new children's books on trailblazing women that have been published in the past 12 months, we've featured new releases in a blog post, "New Mighty Girl Books for Women's History Month 2020," at https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=28887 #MightyGirls #MightyWomen #WomensHistoryMonth

17.01.2022 The opening of the new Women’s Centre Townsville is a reality today, 02 October 2020, because of the North Qld Community’s commitment to changing our culture for the better. Collectively, men, women, young people, small & big business achieved our new, state of the art, purpose built premises. When our women & children fall on hard times - they now have a safe space which offers specialised services to walk with them & offer hope. It is with great pleasure that we, Sky Foun...dation, say thank you to every person who supported the cause over the last 7 years. This is a reality because of you. Sky Foundation understands that the Centre will host a community event next year. Covid has prevented the community celebrations this year. We wish Cathy & her dedicated staff all the very best in continuing to deliver vital services to survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence & homelessness. #TurnItRoundTownsville #WeBelieveYou #NotNowNotEverNotInMyTown

09.01.2022 COVID-19 has changed the way The Women’s Centre has been delivering services over the last couple of months. Staff are gradually returning to the Women’s Centre... in a way that keeps the health and safety of women and children accessing our services, The Women’s Centre team and the wider community as safe as possible. We are now available to see women face to face who are in need of crisis support for homelessness and counselling. According to government regulations, there will only be a limited number of women permitted to enter the centre at one time, and so women accessing the service may be asked to return at a later time or wait outside until workers become available. Please be aware you will be asked to: -Stay home if you are unwell/at risk -Stay 1.5m from others so we can stay open -Follow floor markers and stay behind barriers -Wait until there is space for you in each area -Use hand sanitiser upon entry For women engaged with our ongoing case management and counselling services, we will continue to offer these services remotely over the phone, email, Zoom or Skype. Our Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) continues to respond to reports of sexual assault 24/7 through Townsville University Hospital and the Police. We appreciate your patience and perseverance with this changing space. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact The Women’s Centre on 07 4775 7555. In the case of emergencies always call 000
