25.01.2022 Our Pre Prep children are excited to continue their stop motion film today! We have recently been reading 'The Good Egg' and 'The Great Eggscape' by Jory John and Pete Oswald. The Great Eggscape is about an egg, 'the good egg' who goes on an adventure. We have adopted the main character, made him our own (as seen in the image above) and children are now using their imaginations to come up with a brand new adventure for him. Children have come up with some great things fo...r him to explore at Sky Tree (many agreed that he loved slides). Children not only use their imaginations but they learn to share ideas in a group, to take turns, to listen to each other, that a number of images can appear to make an object look like it's moving and the basics of animation. It is a great use of incorporating technology into learning. 22.01.2022 In this exercise, our Loft (Pre-Prep / Preschool) children are shown a tangram image for a few seconds. In this care, it was a rocket made of various shapes (triangles, squares, etc). The image of the rocket is then removed and children then try to replicate the rocket themselves from memory. We assist where required but let them have a go at problem solving it first. It was interesting to see how children processed the image, some seeing individual shapes and others pla...cing them in a group, how they attempted to solve problems when shapes didn't fit or look right. 12.01.2022 We now have frogs at Skytree! The children were so excited to make their own frogs for their room during art class today. The children decided frogs are 'funny & silly' so they dont need a mouth just their tongues poking out After lots and lots of laughter around the table as we made our silly frogs the children then discussed how some frogs might feel happy or sad as well like we do. Here are some water play activities you can do at home: BABIES: Try placing some duckies in a small tray or bucket of water for the bubs to play with. TODDLERS: Add some animals for them to stomp and splash with in the water (they love animals and water...It's a win win)... PRESCHOOLERS: Alphabet scoop, add some letters to a container of water and give them a ladle to scoop out the letters and then discuss what letters they have found. 04.01.2022 Our Pre-Prep children started doing a rainbow for the Rainbow Trail. It is the beautiful cardboard rainbow at our front door. What is the Rainbow Trail? A Facebook group called Rainbow Trail Australia is inspiring colourful artworks across the nation to "spread some joy during these testing times" however the rainbow trail is popping up all over the world! To extend on our children's learning and community involvement in this project, this week we are taking our children ...on an excursion to the carpark so they can engage in colourful activities. It will give families an opportunity to see children's artwork at the end of the day for our families attending our service (who currently don't come into our centre as part of our practices to help keep families safe). It also allows our families who are staying at home to also be a part of it by allowing them to drop a piece of artwork by or come when we aren't outside to do some art.
