24.01.2022 IT PAYS TO BE AN OWNER!! Owners will be allowed back on-course from Monday, Racing Victoria has announced. Obviously there will be biosecurity protocols in plac...e to protect key industry participants like trainers and jockeys, as well as the returning owners. This Monday coming (22/6/20) Swan Hill will become the first track to welcome spectators back on-course since COVID-19 restrictions were implemented in March Monday, June 22 will also be the same day TAB outlets are allowed to reopen. Punters will, however, have a little bit of a longer wait to return to the track. When spectators would be allowed to return to the track would be dictated by state government rather than federal government. RV Chief Executive Giles Thompson stated: Members of the race clubs and the general public won’t be able to go back to the track from Monday. That’s because from a government guideline perspective, spectators, and they’re classified as spectators, as compared to owners, who are classified differently spectators are captured by the broader professional sports guidelines which also covers things like the AFL, NRL within Victoria, he said. Those guidelines are state based. So while at a federal level there is an opportunity for states to expand the number of spectators, currently in Victoria the government guidelines do not allow spectators and that includes members. The industry is hopeful that those restrictions would start to lift by the end of July.
