11.01.2022 A member's blog is available for members of SLANSW, the most recent featuring the SLANSW International Speakers Series # 2. Dr. Mary Ann Harlan presented on Information Literacy in Reading Fiction. The question she raised was, "How can we reset fiction as an information source?" Dr Harlan’s research (2019) suggests that students need help in understanding the potential of reading fiction as information to answer essential questions, such as: Who am I in my world? Who can ...I be in my world? Why is our world the way it is? Participants brainstormed lists of titles for graphic novels, picture books, Years 4-6, 7-10 and senior students, in response to these unusually pertinent questions. The full blog and the list will be available if you are a member of SLANSW. Check it out at https://slansw.net.au/news

06.01.2022 Dr R. David Lankes challenged participants in the final ISS session asking "Do we try to recapture the old normal or take the opportunity to create a new way?" He suggested that our mission as Teacher Librarians is to improve society. We can do this by supporting our students in their real lives, as opposed to just their information needs - the 'new normal' agenda for librarianship needs to be based on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
