08.01.2022 On behalf of Dani and myself we regret to inform everyone that we have to temporarily shut the doors at SHG due to the COVID-19 outbreak and new government rules. All memberships will be on hold until further notice and there will be no further training or PT sessions until it is safe to do so. We look forward to coming back stronger than ever when time is right ... Thank you for your understanding and support. James and Dani.

01.01.2022 Powerlifting in Tassie is huge at the moment and only getting bigger and better! The main reason for that is one man , Wayne Howlett!! Owner/founder of slaughterhouse Gym along with his brother Shaune , he is also the president of WRPF Australia - Tassies biggest powerlifting federation! Along with running some of the biggest and best meets the country has seen Wayne boasts some terrific numbers on the platform aswell, most have heard his name but few actually know numbers ,... In my opinion he was years ahead of the game . His first ever comp was in s/ply in 2005 where he went 300/200/280 @102 b/w ! He chucked the single ply on again 8 years later and went on to become the first Australian to total 1000kg in 2013 hitting 420/270/320-1010 @126 b/w He squatted 350kg bare knees in 2012 to hit his first 900kg total with 350/235/315 at the CAPO state titles in Hobart. Knee wraps then became the norm in our sport and Wayne boosted his squat to 390 in competition with his best to date raw total of 950 at PR7 in 2015 - 390/230/330 , Wayne has also benched 250 in a single lift competition in Finland 2013 weighing 125.8kg! Wayne has represented Australia multiple times over the years in country's such as Argentina, New Zealand, Latvia, Finland and his second home Russia. It's his drive and passion for the sport over a 15 year span that has made Tassie powerlifting what it is today ! Some of the biggest names in the world of powerlifting have lifted in Tassie purely because of him. He may be on a Government paid holiday at the moment but his lifting days are far from over , I can tell you last week he squatted 340x3 and has 360x2 planned next week in his words the 340 felt like an empty bar lol hes also currently weighing over 130kg!! (The pic is myself, Wayne and my late brother Shayne R.I.P after we flew to Melbourne to watch him win the 125 class at Pro Raw 7) See more
