04.05.2022 The oh so dreaded 4 month sleep regression The 4 month sleep regression is a cognitive, physical and emotional developmental period that affects sleep. During this time night sleep cycles change from 4-6 hourly to 2-4 hourly. If your baby cannot self-settle by the time this regression hits, they are more likely to experience it. They may wake more often and if they cannot get to sleep without your assistance (rocking, feeding, patting) they will need you. If your bub onl...y takes 45 min naps during the day, they may also experience this regression as they will likely be going to be over tired, which promotes more night waking. My main tips... Try to work on self settling and encourage a longer lunch nap. Also... Try to stay consistent with your routine Give bub a chance to self settle before intervening at night Recognise and act on bubs tired signs Put bub to bed drowsy but awake Don't be afraid of an early bedtime if bub has had a restless day Need more info or help... ask below or send me a dm xx
22.04.2022 More about Safe Sleep I've had some people ask about some of the items in the list above. And I have seen these items being sold and advertised in all baby shops. Please do some reading and research before buying any of these items for sleep. They are NOT safe sleep approved. Swings and rockers are fine to put bub in while hanging out with the family, but they should not be used for sleep. ... There is heaps of information out there. Check out Red Nose Australia. The American Academy of Pediatrics has some great recommendations and reading too. Safe sleep is of utmost importance.
10.04.2022 Comforters! There are some really adorable ones out there. And some bubs use blankets or stuffed toys as comforters too. I remember over 15 years ago when my cousin had this horribly looking little blanket she used to carry around everywhere. She wouldn't go anywhere without it. She loved it. I bought my little guy 2 of these because I fell in love with the print and thought that Bam would be a nice easy name he could use. ... Comforters are usually introduced at around 7 months of age. This is the age that bubs can remove things from their face. Any earlier may pose as a SIDS risk. I've also learnt that they should be about the size of a face washer. So not too big. Before introducing the comforter, I popped it into bed with me for a few nights. This way my scent rubbed off onto it. I then started giving it to Ashton whilst feeding him and then gave it to him in his bed. He's been chewing on it while putting himself to sleep.
