25.01.2022 Early morning wakes! Do you have them in your home? Any wake before 6am is considered an early morning wake. Here is how we get past them... Treat them the same as you would with a night wake. Resettle, resettle, resettle.... We want to avoid any light, food or social interaction. By using your consistency of resettling and staying clear of the above, we will soon move that wake along. Light plays a huge role in the time that we wake. If there is light sneaking in, it will be signally to your childs brain that it is time to start the day. Being overtired, under tired, too much or too little nap sleep will also play a role. Focus on those calories throughout the day. Keep those conversations to a minimum during a resettle. I prefer to just simply use keywords/a sentence that I will repeat, rather than banter going back and forth...engaging in them and waking them further. @ourbeachdays - you are too clever #sleepandnurture #sleepandnurturesleeptips #sleeptips See more

25.01.2022 As well as those sleep inducing foods being added into our childs diet (check previous post), focussing on magnesium and iron rich foods will also help in creating sleep. They are both two incredibly important ingredients for sleep. From 6 months, your childs iron store may be becoming low. A healthy iron supply is not only needed to keep them well within themselves but it will also help aid a deeper, more restorative sleep. Low iron levels have a direct link to sleep ...issues. Iron rich foods include red meat, beans, dark leafy vegetables spinach, bok choy, kale, lentils, tofu, leeks, asparagus, parsley, oats, dried fruit and peas. Magnesium calms the central nervous system. It can suppress your nerve activity, which in turn means less muscle twitches and jerks. Magnesium rich foods such as spinach, yoghurt, black beans, avocados, nuts and bananas. By adding/increasing iron and magnesium to your child's diet, you will decrease the likelihood of night waking. 24.01.2022 Daylight Savings end is on its way! I hope you got your hands on my sleep tips about this time change. If not, take a look at my previous post

24.01.2022 When I say 'I get it' or 'I understand', I really do mean it. Hear me out! My first was sleeping through by 4.5 months and my mothers group called him the phenergan baby because he was so chilled. Our second on the other hand, a good night with this little one of mine was 5-8 times overnight wakes. I was beyond exhausted and so was he. I knew what I needed to do but that sleep deprivation had got me good. ... At 9 months, I finally pulled myself together and set about making some much needed change for our sleep. In a silly way, I am grateful for those awful nights because he has given me the understanding to help you. He is my WHY, why I continue to help families and their little ones sleep. I understand your overwhelming feeling of tiredness and feeling as though making a change is too hard and will take more energy than you have to give. You can get your little one sleeping through, naps settled and more predictability all round. You will need patience, calm and consistency of a plan that you put in place. If you need some help, please reach out! I would love to guide you every step of the way. http://www.sleepandnurture.com.au/services.html #sleepandnurture #realmotherhood #sleeplessnights #sleepconsultant #sydneysleepconsultant See more

24.01.2022 This is from my final family from the outside world, before I moved on to online consults...for now! Testimonial time My son at 9 months old was still waking 2-3 times a night & the only thing that would get him back to sleep was a bottle. I was exhausted. ... I was starting work again soon & knew I needed help to get him to sleep longer periods overnight. I knew about Lauren from Sleep & Nurture because my cousin had used her to help with their 10month old who was waking up to 12 times a night and they had great success with her. So we arranged to have Lauren come around for a consultation & to stay for 2 nights. The consult was great & gave us so much information that really helped get him into a routine. She explained everything from his diet, why he is waking, other factors to help him get a good nights sleep & his environment just to name a few. The first night Lauren stayed over she taught me how to resettle him & after one resettle at 10.30pm, he slept through till 6.30am. I couldn't believe it. He had only done this once in his life, so I didn't think the first night would have an amazing result like that! The second night was even better! he slept from 7-6.45am (he had a few little wakes overnight, but resettled himself after only a few minutes) and he continues to sleep well weeks on. She also provided us with 3 weeks email support, which was amazing. Any questions I had she answered quickly & when she hadn't heard from us in a few days she was chasing me up to check how we were going. I highly recommend Lauren & I am so grateful to have had her help. Larissa @iamhappyiamhere #sleepandnurture #sleepandnurturetestimonial #youcan #youcandoit See more

23.01.2022 Time Change Tip Sheet... Whenever we move the clocks forward or back, it can create major disruptions for our little ones sleep. This transition generally causes the most disruption. 19.01.2022 Where are my baby Mummas at? Here is #sleepandnurturesleeptip for you... wrapping/swaddling and why we do it? Most little ones will sleep better and sleep longer by being wrapped. ... We wrap them to prevent them startling themselves awake with random arm movements, their startle reflex. This reflex is one that is present until 3 months or sometimes longer. A wrap can help your baby feel safe and secure and can work wonders in helping them get into the next sleep cycle. Wrapping may not immediately calm them. In fact some babies will seem even more frustrated or cry even more, convincing some parents that their little one hates being wrapped. Generally that frustration or crying is happening because they are tired or possibly overtired. I would love to hear what wrap works or worked for you? @kristencook1 #sleepandnurture #sydneysleepconsultant #sleep #babiesofig See more

18.01.2022 As the sun sets and moon is on the rise, I know there are many of you that become anxious. Anxious because you dont know how many overnight wakes are ahead. Anxious because you arent sure just how much sleep you will have and if you will cope on that amount, the following day. Im here to tell you that it will get easier. Whether you solve your childs sleep on your own or you reach out to someone, like myself. Often it is a matter of addressing those sleep associa...tions. The way they are settling and resettling. Less assistance will mean more sleep. Those nights will then become brighter. Trust me. 17.01.2022 Just here to say I hope you are doing well! It is certainly easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious with all that is currently around us. Be gentle on yourself. Update on myself and the fam bam! We are all good. Boys had settled beautifully into their new school but are now in self isolation. Loving our new home but also scary with these tough times that are ahead. I have had a wonderful flow of families to help since the New Year. This will soon slow, however I am grateful that I have the option of skyping families. For the families interested, I will be sending my tip sheet on the time change ahead. This is the time change that can lead to even earlier wakes. Keen for some tips on this?

16.01.2022 Are you finding your childs nap and night sleep becoming harder and harder to come by? Are you staying home a lot more? It is more then likely that you need to UP their physical activity! ... Normally, I would say to go and physically tire them by going to the park or even a swim. For a lot of us, this is not possible at this point in time. Playing outdoors with ball and get them running about. Jumping on a trampoline. Some of my families have been purchasing small circle exercise tramps. Bike rides or long walks. Plenty of tummy time and stroller rides for our little ones. 15.01.2022 Testimonial time If you are reading this, you will understand what they mean when they say that sleep deprivation is a form of torture. Like we were, you are probably at the end of your tether and desperately need help. All I can say is you have come to the right place!! We reached out to Lauren after a friends recommendation. Lauren was an absolute lifesaver and we could not recommend her highly enough. Our 10 month old son had been waking between 4 12 times ...a night. Lauren came and stayed and talked us through a sleeping method that was right for us. We saw immediate improvement after the first night and it only got better from there. Lauren also took us through diet and daytime naps which all attributed to a good nights sleep. I learnt so much, all things I would never have thought would affect my sons sleeping habits. Laurens ongoing support throughout the 3 week period was amazing and she continued to check in afterwards. I always felt supported throughout the process and still do today. We have gotten back all those months of sleep deprivation. We now have a baby that sleeps through every night! The black circles have dissipated and we are all so much happier. Thank you Lauren!!! - Kristy, Warrawee #sleepandnurture #sleepandnurturetestimonial @the.standish.tales See more

13.01.2022 No lavender soap required here Testimonial time We contacted Lauren in a moment of complete desperation. Our 18-month-old boy had enlarged adenoids which were causing sleep apnea and frequent and distressed waking. However, once his adenoids had been removed, we were still contending with terrible sleep and constant waking due to a series of bad sleep habits that had taken hold both before and after his surgery. As a result, he was always overtired and required... elaborate settling routines for day and night sleeps. We never knew how each day was going to go, or when and where he would end up sleeping. In just one visit, Lauren completely turned our lives around. She helped us establish a new routine, introduced some important new eating and sleeping habits and most importantly, gave us a plan to teach him to self-settle as gently as possible. It took about three days for him to learn to self-settle and now nearly two months on, his daytime sleeps are gloriously consistent. He goes out like a light at 7pm and rarely wakes up again. Hes a happier, calmer child all round. Bringing Lauren in was without a doubt the best thing we have done for our child, and for our family. Cant thank you enough for all your help and your patience with me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. - Elizabeth, Cammeray #sleepandnurture #sleepandnuturetestimonial @houseofwhite_ See more

08.01.2022 Testimonial time Our 7 month old has always been good at self-settling but after an exhausting six week sleep regression we needed help to refine his day routine (including solids) and bedtime routine, using a settling technique that we were comfortable with. 08.01.2022 Did you know that there is such a thing as sleep inducing foods? Some foods are known to have a calming, relaxing effect on the body. It can take up to 30 minutes to an hour for the tryptophan/ sleepy effect to occur. We do not make tryptophan naturally, so the more we have of it in out diet, the better.... Milk, turkey, tuna, hard cheese, eggs, bananas, oats, nuts, brown rice, quinoa, chickpeas, green peas, pumpkin seeds and avocados are all rich in tryptophan. These foods are all great options to add to your childs meals throughout the day, especially dinner and dessert. #sleepandnurture #sleepandnurturesleeptip #alittlebitofsleepydust #sleepconsultant See more

07.01.2022 You have got this! It has been an exciting week seeing my families progress. 06.01.2022 Teething! Our little ones can show signs of getting teeth from as early as a few months, however it may be a lot longer before anything actually appears. For some, teething can make them fuss throughout the the day and really disturb their nights. For others you will not hear a single peep from them. That is simply because we all have a different pain tolerance.... A cold cloth, teething rusk or teething toy can help throughout the day. Pain relief may also need to be given. At times teething can get the blame for every sleepless night when it may more likely be a sleep association. Sleep associations such as suck to sleep or rocking. Given that our little ones can teeth for what feels like a constant 2 years, a clearly set settling method is a must. It will then be your instruction manual if you will. For me, I like a gentle settling method to resolve any sleep association issues. I would love to know when your little one got their first tooth and how you/they coped? #sleepandnurture #sleepandnurturesleeptip #teethingsucksforeveryone @mollyhilton See more

06.01.2022 If you are rocking your child to sleep and it is working for you, well done! You are doing really well. If you are feeding your child to sleep and it is working for you, well done! You are doing really well. If you are patting your child to sleep and it is working for you, well done! You are doing really well.... If you are tired, with lots of wake ups from your child and nothing seems to be working for you, then maybe it is time look at the way your little one is going to sleep and if that is what needs to be changed. Moving on from those big sleep associations will mean that you will see longer and longer sleep stretches. Your childs self settling skills will be key to them sleeping soundly. There are no bad sleep associations in my opinion. Just ones that we can move on from, when you are ready. #sleepandnurture @tailsandwingsphoto See more

06.01.2022 Testimonial time We were about to book into sleep school when we were recommended Laurens services. We were living through extensive renovations, resorting to getting our little one to nap in the pram or carrier away from the constant noise and disruptions at home. Our then 6 and a half month old was no longer able to self settle, and getting her to fall asleep in her bassinet had become a massive struggle. Our evenings consisted of me feeding her every hour or two..., and my husband rocking her in between, in an attempt to either feed or hold her to sleep, before transferring her into her bassinet. This process easily went on for 4-5 hours a night, and if she woke during the night, the only way we knew to resettle her was with another feed. Needless to say, we were beyond exhausted, and whilst I was sceptical as to whether a sleep consultant would be able to help, knew we needed to give it a go. Luckily Lauren was able to fit us in within a matter of days, staying with us for three nights. Using the settling technique that Lauren taught us, our little one managed to sleep through each night that Lauren was with us, and in her cot in her own room too! Lauren helped us make changes to our little ones sleep environment, solids intake, daily activities, bedtime routine, etc., which worked together to improve the quality of her sleep. Daily communication with Lauren following her stay was also invaluable. Im going to miss having her there to give us pointers and to cheer us on, but feel that she has equipped with the tools we need to continue on this journey as a family on our own.
