22.01.2022 DAYLIGHT SAVINGS Now this is something that we can look forward too! Longer and lighter evenings and warmer weather is soon upon us! WHEN: 2am Sunday 4th October 2020... WHO: VIC, SA, NSW, ACT & TAS HOW: Clocks move ‘FORWARD’ 1 hour As we are losing an hour, this transition phase isn’t as important as it is when we gain an extra hour. If you have an early riser, there is no need to change a thing.. their 6am wake ups will soon become 7am! If you are someone that goes with the flow with daylight savings and adjust once the time change has occurred, that is absolutely fine. However, if you want to get ahead of this upcoming time change here are some tips below: Based on a 7am-7pm schedule Starting on the Monday prior, wake your little one up 15 minutes earlier at 6:45am and bring their daily routine of feeds/naps and bedtime 15 minutes earlier also On the Wednesday, wake them up at 6:30am and bring their daily routine another 15 minutes earlier On the Friday, wake them up at 6:15am and again bring their daily routine a further 15 minutes earlier Come Sunday morning your littles ones will be waking up at the new time of 7am. In the mean time ensure their room is pitch black, white noise is playing loud enough to block out the birds chirping and general outside noise and their room is at an ideal temp of 19-21 degrees. Please note: For newborn babies don’t change a thing, just keep on eye on their awake times Are you looking forward to daylight savings? #babysleep #babysleepconsultant #sleepytots #baby #newborn #sleep #sleepdeprivation #exhausted #settling #sleephelp #daylightsaving

13.01.2022 Baby Sleep is unpredictable There are a number of factors which can affect your babies sleep. Although some are out of our control such as teething, sickness, sleep regressions and developmental leaps it can become quite overwhelming. ... But by developing healthy sleep habits it will create consistency your little one can rely on. When we establish key sleep foundations, you will find that your little one will move through fussy periods quicker, easier and will be able to adjust back into their normal routine once this phase has passed. #babysleep #babysleepconsultant #sleepytots #baby #newborn #sleep #sleepdeprivation #exhausted #settling #sleephelp

04.01.2022 ROLLING This is one of the first developmental skills our little one’s will master! Most babies begin to show sign of being able to roll from about 4 months of age - although all babies develop differently so it is perfectly normal if your little one begins rolling earlier or later than this. It can be very nerve racking once they start to roll! If your little one can roll in both directions unaided (back-tummy/tummy-back), then it is ok to put them to sleep on their back an...d let them find their own natural sleeping position. By this stage it is not necessary to wake during the night to turn baby over to the back position. So, how can we help out little ones through this milestone? Immediately stop swaddling If you are using a bassinette, it is time to transfer them into a cot Make sure their cot is safe - no blankets, toys, pillow, cot bumpers Make sure they sleep on a firm and well fitting mattress that is flat DO NOT use any devices designed to keep your little one in a particular sleep position - these can be dangerous and are not in accordance with the SIDS guidelines Allow extra tummy time to play when awake and supervised, as this helps to develop stronger neck and upper body muscles Be consistent and patient - they may seem unsettled with this newfound skill but they will grasp this soon! Embrace this amazing new development stage! More than likely rolling will impact your little ones sleep to begin with - the best way we can help is by providing them the opportunity to practice as much as possible during their awake times. Do you have a tummy sleeper and has rolling impacted your little one’s sleep? #babysleep #babysleepconsultant #sleepytots #baby #rolling #newborn #sleep #sleepdeprivation #exhausted #settling #sleephelp #rolling

02.01.2022 SHORT NAPS & REASONS WHY Why won’t my baby sleep any longer than 20-30minutes? and How can I get my baby to sleep longer during the day? - Do these questions sound familiar? When you are spending more time getting your little one to sleep than they actually sleep, can be very frustrating for parents! ... Short naps are not usually caused by one thing, but a couple of things. Common reasons for short naps: Sleep Environment - Not having an appropriate sleep space, we want their room dark with white noise An Association - If your baby needs assistance to fall asleep, after one sleep cycle they will wake and require this same assistance to go back to sleep Developmental - Under 5 months of age short naps are common and developmentally appropriate Awake Window - Too long or too short #babysleep #babysleepconsultant #sleepytots #baby #rolling #newborn #sleep #sleepdeprivation #exhausted #settling #sleephelp #naps #shortnaps #catnapping
