22.01.2022 A great opportunity to learn some upcycling skills for Christmas - the workshop is on this Wednesday at the Kingborough Civic Centre. Bookings Essential. Drop in to the Twilight Produce Market as well for some great local produce and the yummiest of new season strawberries.

18.01.2022 Coffee Cup Contamination at Kingston Beach We've had some confusion on whether or not single-use coffee cups can be disposed in our public recycling bins at Kin...gston Beach. They are not recyclable and are contaminating our bins, which means the recycling bin contents are all going to landfill Most people are thinking they are doing the right thing and are putting their cup in the recycling bin. Unfortunately they can't be recycled thanks to a thin plastic lining that makes them waterproof. Even the compostable 'bio cups' can't be recycled. They require a special treatment which we don't have. Only the lid on the cups can go into the recycling bin. If you want to help reduce waste consider these options: Take a seat - Sit down at your favourite coffee shop to enjoy your brew in a mug. Invest in a reusable cup - this has been difficult during COVID restrictions, however the Kingston Beach Corner Takeaway will currently fill your reusable cup but please make sure it is clean Recycle Right - put the single-use coffee cup in the general waste bin and put the lid in the recycling bin. What can go in the bin: Empty glass bottles cardboard empty cans paper empty plastic containers Thank you for doing the right thing in using our bins #DoTheRightThing #RecycleRight #Reuse

13.01.2022 There is a lot happening in the climate protest world at the moment but Climate Tasmania has been quietly working in the background lobbying members of Tasmania...'s parliament and government about the coming revision of the Tasmanian climate legislation, arguing for a strong legal grounding for Tasmania's response to the climate emergency. Now we want to talk to you, the public. There will be a forum on Wed. 25 Sept in the IMAS lecture theatre 5.30 - 7 pm. Might sound a bit dry when you might prefer taking to the streets in the Climate Strike on Friday 20 Sept (do that as well!) but it is really important. Governments need strong legislation to act on climate disruption. See more

09.01.2022 I’ve been looking into ShareWaste and there’s quite a few people in Kingborough that will accept compost. Check out if someone in your neighbourhood is accepting food waste for their compost, chooks or worm farms. The more food waste we can keep out of landfill the better our environment will be. Food waste in landfill creates methane which is worse than CO2. A recent Council audit found that most household landfill bins have an average of 48% food waste.
07.01.2022 Come on Kingborough Council, how about it!
