25.01.2022 Everyone has a story to share about Slim and his music. Here is Alfred Wallon from Augsburg, Germany, sharing about his appreciation of Slim’s music. What a great collection behind him including the framed signed photographs, fan club letter and CD collection! If you have a story to share of your Slim Dusty collection simply film a short video like Alfred’s and send us a message we’d love to share it on the page with everyone.

22.01.2022 Hello, friends, I hope all is well with you and yours. It’s good to have something different happening that we can talk about in these very weird pandemic days. I would like to tell you a bit more about the premiere at Kempsey. The new theatre has a large foyer wall featuring a huge sketch of Slim, and on the night, the new song I Don’t Believe You played there throughout the evening. I wrote the rough of this song a couple of years after Slim died, in an effort to expres...s just some of my feelings and beliefs. I recorded It on a cassette, and put it away for fifteen years. It made its way to Anne, then to Jim and Flora (my grandson and his wife singing and recording as Small Town Romance in Melbourne). As the song is very different in style from anything else I have written, they worked on it to bring it up to shape for recording. Flora, in particular, re-wrote some of the second half of lyrics and with James singing lead and on guitar, Flora on vocals and button accordion plus Anne (Kirkpatrick) on harmonies and solo vocals they recorded I Don’t Believe You. It was played in the theatre foyer all the evening during the premiere. Here’s the link to the video James made of the song, and a photo James took one day of Flora and me. The song is the first track on the soundtrack album. (see the video: https://SlimDusty.lnk.to/IDBY-video) I’ll be back in touch soon. Just thought of a couple of things I wanted to tell you. For now, it’s goodbyetill next time. Every good wish to all, Joy.

18.01.2022 Did you catch the fantastic 60 Minutes interview on Keith Urban last night? Keith is such a wonderful artist and friend. 16.01.2022 We have some exciting news about the Slim Dusty Centre! A unique partnership opportunity was recognised yesterday, with Kempsey Shire Council resolving to accept an offer to take over and reopen the Slim Dusty Centre for six months, while preparing a detailed business case that may see ownership of the Centre permanently transferred to Council. This partnership truly recognises the Slim Dusty Centre as a unique and nationally significant community project in a regional area,... says Dr David Kirkpatrick, Slim’s son and Chair of the Slim Dusty Museum Trust Fund. A significant effort has gone into establishing the Centre, curating the exhibits and working with our charity and stakeholders to build the brand of the museum. We will continue to focus on that area and bring new exhibits to life while trusting Council’s expertise to improve the operational management and marketing to allow the Centre to reach its full commercial potential. The full media release can be viewed on the Kempsey Shire Council website here: https://www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au/media-rel//mr20201020b.html

12.01.2022 Over the weekend Simon Marnie interviewed the director of SLIM & I, Kriv Stenders, in his Sonic Journey feature segment. It was a wonderful conversation about how Kriv came to work on the documentary and how he came to love the music, family and fans of Slim Dusty and Joy McKean. 12.01.2022 Joy McKean and James Arneman joined Felicity Urquhart on ABC Saturday Night Country last night for an insightful chat about SLIM & I the film and soundtrack. If you missed it you can listen to it online here (the interview is immediately after the news 1 hour in):

12.01.2022 Hello again, everyone, I’ve been hearing some really nice things about how the film is being received in different places. I received a letter from the lovely people in Emerald, Queensland, who are fundraisers for a charity named Our Rainbow House. This is a school and home for displaced children in Zambia, Africa. They made the opening night of Slim and I at their local theatre, into a fundraiser evening for Our Rainbow House and had a wonderful get together as well as ...enjoying the film and raising funds for their Rainbow House. Then there was the opening of the film in Alice Springs. I heard that there was impromptu live music in the foyer before the start of the evening, everyone was dressed up and at the end of the film, stood and applauded just as though they were at a film festival. These kinds of stories make me feel closer to all of you. I certainly miss being out on the road, seeing everyone. Let’s talk again, soon. Joy.

09.01.2022 Last week the premiere screening of SLIM & I was held in Slim's hometown of Kempsey. It was attended by Joy McKean, Anne Kirkpatrick, David Kirkpatrick and many dignitaries which made the launch of the film very special. Here's a taste of the celebrations and what people had to say.

05.01.2022 Slim remained with recording label EMI Music his entire career. EMI Managing Director John O'Donnell shares that not only is it the longest relationship any label has had with a recording artist (ever!), but Slim was the foundation on which EMI built it's roster.

04.01.2022 Thank you Spotify for the support of the music, film and story of Joy McKean & Slim Dusty.

01.01.2022 Hello there! It has been far too long since I called in with my diary, and I must apologise for that indeed. However, I guess you all know that at long last, despite the pandemic and lockdowns, our film/documentary Slim and I, has finally hit the big screen in theatres all over the place and that has kept me very, very busy of late. Having had a successful run in city theatres in every capital except Melbourne (full lockdown) the film is moving out into many more independen...t, and regional cinemas all over the nation. Regrettably, Victoria has to wait until the lockdown there is lifted, at least to some degree. The premiere was held in the new theatre in Kempsey, Slim’s hometown, and what a night that was! Guest of honour was The Honourable Margaret Beazley, Governor of NSW, Liz Campbell Mayor of Kempsey, Ms Melinda Pavey MP plus Councillors, friends and local people from all over the district. Every seat available, was taken. Some of our friends such as Glenn A. Baker came all the way from Sydney to attend and speak at the evening. Here are some photos taken on the night to show you some of the surroundings and people attending. Must go for now, but I will be back again soon. Every good wish, Joy
