21.01.2022 Squishy fans, we are in crisis. We desperately need your support. We have so many animals in care that need extra medical attention, with more arriving every da...y. Humperdoo is another of our recent arrivals. We flew Humperdoo from QLD, to ensure he could get the care and treatment he needed to be a happy, healthy boy. Humps has deformed eyelids, distichiasis and entropion which means he has eyelashes constantly rubbing on his corneas, resulting in ulcers and at least one severe corneal sequestra. This is an extremely painful and irritating condition which often results in the loss of an eye. Despite us not being anywhere near raising the money we need for Kismet’s specialist appointment at Centre for Animal Referral & Emergency - CARE on Tuesday, we couldn’t stand the thought of making Humperdoo wait a moment longer than necessary for relief from his sore, irritated eyes, so he will be having Entropion surgery and distichiasis surgery tomorrow, with potentially more specialist surgery to come. In addition to this, Jubilee needs to see a behaviourist, as we can’t find the cause of her toileting issues, we have a malnourished and matted 7yo arriving tomorrow and 5 more cats on our surrender list, desperate for a place. 19.01.2022 Please say a very faux squishy hello to Mara. This tiny wee girl is a Seal Lynx Point Bengal, who joined us last week. Mara was an entire, unchipped, unclaimed ...stray from one of the pounds we work with and although they had made attempts to rehome her directly, due to a mild heart murmur no one wanted to give this stunning girl a forever home. Little did anyone know at the time that her heart murmur was the least of Mara’s concerns. It turned out she had a severe case of Pyometra (a life-threatening infection of the uterus). Thankfully the lovely Dr. Don at The Avenue Veterinary clinic was on the ball and diagnosed Mara quickly. After a massive surgery to remove her enlarged and pus filled uterus, Mara is now recovering in care.
