25.01.2022 Without a doubt today was the nicest day Gina and I had since we closed the salon. We have now started implementing the social distancing measures and are about to commence a small renovation to ensure your safety. Were also finalising our hygiene check list and will have that up next week for you to read. Please feel free to email us if you have any concerns or queries before you visit.... To all that responded to our tentative appointment email & post, thank you. We were overwhelmed by the amount of clients that are happy to support the salon during this time. Thank you for waiting for us. Thank you for your concerns. Thank you for your support. We will be calling over the coming weeks to arrange appointments. Look forward to seeing you all. Warmest regards, Kon & Gina.
24.01.2022 Its our 3rd week of closure and dear god do we miss you. Most of my clients have been with me for over 20 years. It is a professional transaction but its also about relationships. Im missing our friendships new and old. The conversations, sharing our stories and experiences. Our triumphs and failures. ... There is so much gratitude to all of you that have supported me personally and the salon and team. Thank you. Im not entirely sure when, but cannot wait to be creative again, to make you all feel beautiful and to catch up on whats been happening in your lives. We love you, and hope your all keeping safe. See you some time soon. Team Slinky.

21.01.2022 Hi all, we are closely monitoring advise from Daniel Andrews regarding the Darebin Hotspots. Northcote currently appears safe. We will without a doubt take swift action if needed to keep our clients safe. We urge you to consider the safety of all the community. If you are from any of the hotspots announced today and have an appointment we would appreciate it if you called the salon to cancel your appointment. Its imperative we all collectively consider the well being... of our community, businesses locally and throughout the state. We noticed a few cancellations last week and we thank you for considering everyone however, last minute cancellations are and will continue to have a profound impact on our recovery. If your apprehensive, or have a compromised immune system please give us sufficient notice. We thank you for your continued support and hope you all stay safe. Warmest regards, Slinky. See more
21.01.2022 Thank you for sharing this with me @michaela olijnyk. Are we undervaluing the role beauty workers can play in encouraging some of societys most vulnerable to seek professional support? https://pursuit.unimelb.edu.au/articles/beyond-beauty
20.01.2022 . Hi all, what a year 2020 has turned out to be. As advised by Dan Andrews today, sadly we are entering a complete lockdown in Melbourne and the Hairdressing sector has been closed down. As you know we were due to start on the 19th August but sadly wont be able to open the salon until the restrictions are lifted. We hope it is 6 weeks from today.... How will appointments work upon our return. Sadly, all future appointments currently made will be amended in order from the first week of cancelations from week starting the 7th July when we closed. An example below. cancelations (from the 8th-11th July) these clients will be booked in for the first week were open. cancelations (from the 15th-18th July) these clients will be booked in for the second week were open. cancelations (from the 22nd-25th July) these clients will be booked in for the third week were open. Ect... To ensure we dont double handle we will be suspending all future appointments and temporarily disabling online bookings. This will allow us to go through the canceled appointments once we receive a confirmation date on when we can safely open again, and as mentioned above we will book all appointments on a weekly basis from the 8th July. This is the only fair way to tackle this. We know how annoying this must be for all that have been organised to book future appointments but there is no other way to make this work. All new clients that have made an appointment will sadly be put on a waitlist until we have serviced our regular clientele first. We apologise in advance but we must look after the clients that have been loyal to Slinky. Its a heartbreaking time for Victorians and quite frankly never imagined our salon would be closed for 4 months. We can only hope you all understand our situation as Gina and I genuinely care about every single client, and will again work extremely hard to service all clients in the fairest and prompt manner once restrictions have been lifted. There arent many words to describe how were feeling right now however, we choose to remain humble. There are people grieving the loss of loved ones from Covid, some are struggling to eat and so many without work to pay rent. Stay strong and resilient. We thank you for your support and hope to see you sometime soon. Kindest regards, Kon & GIna.
20.01.2022 Dear clients, as advised by Dan Andrews we are going into lockdown. Effective immediate the salon is closed as of Tuesday 7th July 2020. Although there has been no confirmation regarding essential services, Slinky has and will always provide duty of care to our team, clients and community. We will keep all future appointments in place and will be communicating with all clients prior to their appointments. 2020 has without a doubt tested us, but we refuse to give up. Stay s...trong! Thank you for supporting us, we will be in touch as soon as its safe to open. Kind regards, Slinky.
20.01.2022 With so much frustration for all in Victoria, I found solice in the green house this morning. Gardening always heals the soul and there is something magical about propagation. I hope everyone had a moment to turn off from the media promoting fear and enjoyed a few minutes to be grateful for a glorious winter day in Melbourne.... Warmest hugs to all.
19.01.2022 Its not far off....beware the return of parents as hairdressers:

16.01.2022 Dear clients, coming into our second week of temporary closure, felt it was important to update everyone. Daniel Andrews announced yesterday that hairdressing was added to essential services. Our safety is to important. ... Below is current information that puts our lives at risk listed on the Department of Healths website. How it spreads... The virus can spread from person to person through: Close contact with an infectious person (including in the 24 hours before they started showing symptoms) Contact with droplets from an infected persons cough or sneeze touching objects or surfaces (like doorknobs or tables) that have cough or sneeze droplets from an infected person, and then touching your mouth or face. If social distancing is continually advised, naturally hairdressers and clients should feel apprehensive and take cautionary measures. With stage 3 restrictions enforced we will remain closed temporarily. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank everyone for their continued support. Stay safe.

12.01.2022 Dear clients, what an incredible month of support. Thank you. As mentioned in our last post we would only reach out if necessary. For your safety, we would love if you had a moment to read the post as this may be important information for you to know prior to arriving to your appointment. Gina and i have noticed with each week a compromise in our health. We came to a conclusion as to why we were feeling this way.... The surgical masks. We have been incredibly dehydrated, fatigued and sometimes even suffered mild hyperventilating. Upon researching the health risks of wearing masks for long lengths of time, found these patterns to be very common. Therefore, effective immediate have decided that the team at Slinky will no longer be wearing them. For those interested in reading further about the risks you are welcome to read the information included below. We experienced most the signs that have been noted in this article. Breathing over and over exhaled air turns into carbon dioxide, which is why we feel dizzy. It causes discomfort, loss of reflexes and conscious thought. It generates great fatigue. In addition, oxygen deficiency causes glucose breakdown and endangered lactic acid rise. Further info here. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/masks-dangerous-health/ We will still be offering masks to our clients that attend their appointment if they would like to use as a precaution. We sincerely apologise for an inconvenience this may cause, the salon will continue with social distancing, vigorous cleaning and sterilisation of all our equipment as previously advised. Thank you again for your support. Kind regards, Kon & Gina.
12.01.2022 Dear clients, thank you for your patience. We will be opening tomorrow Wednesday the 12th May. Apologies for our delay in getting in touch with everyone regarding appointments but we have been renovating the salon to adhere to social distancing. The salon looks different and will tentatively operate differently....Continue reading
11.01.2022 FUTURE APPOINTMENTS. Hi all, a follow up email with further information about our temporary closure. Sorry i will naturally try to keep it short but its difficult to sum up important information in a few paragraphs. At this stage it looks like we will be closed until Wednesday 19th August but we are hoping its sooner. We will await advise from Dan Andrews.... Many clients reached out thoughtfully to remind us that Hairdressers can still remain open. So why have we chosen to close? Health We cant imagine Dan Andrews has made the decision lightly to close to the state down knowing the consequences this would have financially. The numbers are obviously high and tracing is proving difficult. Its not worth risking, it certainly hasnt helped working in Darebin. Sadly we have all experienced many times small portions of the community not adhering. Restrictions As per advise you can only leave home for four reasons. Shopping for food and essential items. To provide care or to seek medical treatment. For exercise (in your local area only) For work or study, if you cannot do that from home. This is incredibly confusing for the community. Most do not consider Hair an essential service which sadly directs us to the final reason. Cancelations We had a little over 40% of cancelations last week due to Darebin being listed as a hot spot. And in a little less than 24 hours had a majority of our week & month completely wiped. It is not visible to open the salon for a few clients a day. The community have spoken. Message received loud and clear. Gina and I will be coming into work every Monday morning and will be in touch with all clients to either confirm the coming weeks appointments or reschedule for August. We will again prioritise all our existing loyal clients but strongly encourage everyone to visit our website at slinkyhairdressing.com.au and select the book your appointment button to create your next appointment. As we now have experience in what a closure looks like and then the demand to service a large portion of clients at once, we are really hoping to avoid a burn out. Furthermore we want to eliminate any potential disappointments for our clients having to wait for long periods of time upon our return. For the lockdown period we would really prefer all communication to happen via email at [email protected] Im sure most of us are feeling a little deflated today as the reality sets in but I can assure you Gina and I will see you all soon. We will continue to fight as we love Slinky, our team and clients. Again we thank you for your continued support. We are incredibly grateful. Stay safe. Kind regards, Kon & Gina
10.01.2022 Online appointment bookings enabled. Hi all, what an incredible first week back in the salon. We received some positive feedback about the new salon fit out, but more importantly clients consistently mentioned how safe they felt with our distancing measures and new hygiene policies.... There are however 3 obvious differences that are currently impacting your previously known experience in our salon. We felt it was important to communicate these with you. The first was how long it took us to disinfect all surfaces between each client. Please ensure you allow an extra 15 minutes. We cannot rush our sterilisation procedures. The second was as mentioned last week the basin experience. We managed to wash most cuts and colors but there was little time left for massages and the occasional haircut was done on dry hair. The 3rd one was phone calls. We missed almost 80. As you could imagine this was heartbreaking for a small business owner. Only 30% of clients left messages. We returned those calls but understand how frustrating this must be for our clients. However we cannot currently answer the phones to ensure we keep you safe. Thanks to all your appointment request, we are now able to advertise for an Apprentice to assist us with the issues raised above and we hope to have this sorted for you as soon as possible. As discussed last week we kept our online booking software disabled to ensure we prioritised our regular clients. We have now secured most these appointments. Due to the amount of missed calls feel its important to enable our online booking software again to ensure you can make appointments with ease. Please note what you see on the calender online is what we have available and can book from our end. If you would prefer to get in sooner you are welcome to add yourself to the waitlist and our software will notify you if any appointments become available. The quickest option to secure your appointment currently would be to book online by visiting http://www.slinkyhairdressing.com.au and select the book your appointment button. You can of course email us directly [email protected] The final option is to leave a detailed phone message with preferred dates, times and if you currently have some flexibility working from home. Please note with email and phone calls we will be checking these first thing before commencement of work, on our lunch breaks and after work. We again ask for your patience here and apologise for the inconvenience of our current response times. I wanted to personally thank you all for your patience, support and understanding. Your contribution has without a doubt secured Slinky Hairdressing future. We are truly grateful. Kind regards, Kon & Gina.
09.01.2022 . Hi all, Im sure by now most of us have read the roadmap announced by Dan Andrews yesterday. If you havent at this stage it looks like non-essential businesses will remain in lockdown until the 26th October. Slinky has been closed since the 4th of July. Sadly, that will total 16 weeks of clients missing appointments, We are truly sorry about the inconvenience. Gina and I service approximately 40 clients a week each. Thats around 640 cli...Continue reading

07.01.2022 So hi all. What to say... I thought it was important to share were all in this hair trauma together. Sorry no front on but the hair pain is shared. Kon is starting to resemble Dianna Ross, or a gorilla and Gina has no balayage left.... We care, we miss you, and very much looking forward to seeing you all hopefully sooner than later. Email to follow tomorrow, surrender and enjoy 2020 for what it is. Big hugs and love. Kon and Gina.
07.01.2022 Wrapping our Xmas presents. Cant believe where almost there...
06.01.2022 Approximately 40,000 hairdressers and barbers continue to be at risk following the Federal Governments announcement last night to leave hairdressing off its la...test COVID-19 shut down list. In addition, salons are forced to only conduct 30 minute appointments, which is not a viable time frame to conduct most hairdressing services and offer a professional experience for clients. This decision is outrageous, says Australian Hairdressing Council CEO Sandy Chong. Around 40,000 hairdressers and barbers continue to be at risk of as they are directly exposed to large members of the public. Why beauty was shut down but hairdressing wasnt, I dont understand. Our businesses have the right to close.

03.01.2022 Week 4 update. Yesterday we explored the idea of potentially re opening 1 day per week to get some of our clients in. Working back from the first week of cancelations made a few appointments. Immediately after securing these appointments i felt a strong sense of unease. It wasnt a nice feeling. I immediately canceled those services. My genuine and sincerest apologies for this confusion.... Its obvious that we cannot guarantee anyones safety. With all the potential precautions it still not enough. The social distancing rules applied are now haunting us understandably. The direct contradiction in place of the distancing measures makes it impossible for Hairdressers and clients to feel any sense of security. Were grateful for all the clients who have emailed, text or called with concerns about myself the team and salon. Some have offered to pay for services with no expectation of that money being returned. Others have offered to buy vouchers. So many have asked if theres anything they could do to help. Thank you, truly overwhelmed by this generosity. As the salon owner I choose to stay closed until the restrictions have been lifted. I genuinely care too much about everyones safety to put lives at risk. There has also been a lot of clients asking if they can purchase colour from us to take home and apply themselves. Having empathy for our clients situation wish there was a solution to offer here but there simply isnt. I have spoken with our insurance company and we are not insured for public liability off the premises, therefore cannot take that risk for both parties involved. We do however want to offer clients the opportunity to purchase retail products if they wish. Please email those orders through to [email protected] We are happy to post them out to you, delivery will also be charged if you choose to take this option. Hairdressing salons are still listed as an essential service. We are outraged by this decision. The Australian Hairdressing Council has created a petition and sent a letter to the Chief Medical Officer to have this decision reversed. There is no expectation here however if you have a moment and are interested in helping our Industry, please sign the petition on the link below. Were genuinely sorry we cant service any appointments at the moment. Please keep in touch. Shoot us an email and say hi. I will do my best to speak to as many clients as possible. Your relationships are important to us and we want to know how you are all doing. Stay safe. We hope to see you soon. XXX https://www.change.org/p/chief-medical-officer-stop-putting

02.01.2022 Dear clients due to concerns received regarding your health & safety and leading to an unforseen amount of cancelations regarding Covid-19 we are left with no choice but to close the salon temporarily. We will be in touch with everyone as soon as it is safe to re open. Stay safe. ... Love to all, Slinky.

01.01.2022 Hi all just wanted to reach out with an update. We are still awaiting advise from Daniel Andrews on the 11th of May regarding our current restrictions. Its been great to see the curve flattening, this positive news is exciting and hopeful. ... The team have completed the Infection Control Training - COVID 19. There is no doubt the salon is going to look and operate differently to ensure social distancing measures and all health and safety precautions are adhered to as per the Health Departments recommendations. These changes will mostly be implemented by the salon but we will need your cooperation. Fortunately hygiene supplies are now back in stock and can assure you that we are taking your safety very seriously. I will be posting a full checklist of the changes closer to our opening date. At this stage however preparation of our calendar is important. We would really like to get a tentative reservation list of customers who are ready to get their hair done. We would really appreciate it if you could email this through to [email protected] rather than leave a reply on our Facebook or Instagram page. Notifications can sometimes get lost through social media or simply not seeing quickly enough. All future appointments will remain as they are and for our regular clients that have been canceled you will be prioritised. Gina and I have had regular contact and are looking forward to coming back to work. Fingers are crossed for the 11th of May. Thank you for your patience. Stay safe. Kind regards, Kon & Gina
