21.01.2022 11 WAYS TO LOOSEN YOUR UPPER BACK (1 minute) 2 FACTS: 1. One of these HAS TO WORK!... 2. Loosening up your UPPER BACK helps to free up your neck, shoulders, elbow and low back. "WHY?" When we look at the 12 vertebrae that make up the THORACIC spine, we can quickly see 3 important features: 1. They attach to your RIB CAGE. Since your shoulder blades sit on your rib cage, then this influences you shoulders and elbows. 2. The CERVICAL spine attaches above. This means the mobility of your neck depends upon the mobility (or lack of it) of your upper back. 3. The LUMBAR spine attaches below. If the arch in your lower back is significant then the arch in your upper back is certainly to be affected. What most athletes don't realize is that your lower back wasn't designed to handle the chore of rotation. If the upper back loses this ability then the lower back tried to take over and this is when we have all sorts of problems. Member safety remains our number one priority and during this unprecedented t...ime things will change quickly, and we are happy to change quickly with them to keep you all happy and healthy in our clubs. We would like to take this opportunity to apologise to our NSW members for the concern caused by our announcement last week. Your feedback is valuable to us and we will always seek to accommodate our fitness community. To recap, this is the current booking process in NSW: - Group Fitness classes require a booking. Gym floor access does not. - Members can attend 2 sessions per day - Bookings can be made 6 days and 23 hours in advance, i.e., if you want to book a class for Wednesday 6:00pm, you can make that booking a week prior on Wednesday at 7:00pm. - Studio capacity numbers will be in the booking portal and vary from space to space inline with social distancing restrictions. If you have cancelled a booking in light of our announcement on Friday, you will need to rebook it in the system. We apologise for any inconvenience. Any existing bookings are still valid.

12.01.2022 So when you’ve got relentless hip and knee problems, check that TFL before you go in for that surgery!! . The TFL is the root cause of almost all hip and knee p...roblems and is also the most unaddressed muscle in the entire system. . The issue isn’t that it’s tight, it’s usually more a case of inhibition, the muscle is just not working the way that it’s designed. . But in order to actually fix this hot mess, you can’t just attack that TFL, you need to turn off the corrupt movement patterns that are fueling this monster. . Since the TFL does hip flexion, hip abduction, and hip internal rotation, by actively forcing the hip into the opposite direction, you disengage the TFL. . Then you can release it and retrain it and wave bye bye to the hip and knee issues. . *Note* Do these in the order that they are prescribed. . 1 Hip Adduction - 2 sets of 10 reps 2 Hip Extensions - 2 sets of 10 reps 3 Rotated Figure Four - 2 minute hold 4 Unilateral Hip Flexion - 3 sets of 10 reps 5 Unilateral 90/90 Internal Rotation - 3 sets of 10 reps . 09.01.2022 Here’s a great way to get rid of those sticky shoulders and that winged scapula. . If you’ve got this strange catch behind your shoulder blade or if it locks up... when you go overhead, this is definitely where you need to be. . The serratus anterior stabilizes and protracts the scapula, which in turn, stabilizes the shoulder during almost every movement. . What tends to happen over time is that the shoulder range of motion decreases because the traps are being used incorrectly. The shoulders shrug to increase overhead mobility rather than depress and rotate to stabilize the entire system. . The serratus gets weak and the underused and the mechanics begin to incorporate the upper trap fibers for stabilization during any movement above 90 degrees. . Retrain how you move and strengthen that serratus and your winged scapula will vanish. . NOTE. If it’s an injury to the long thoracic nerve, then this is not for you. . 1 Flying Vee Ring Sweep - 3 sets of 10 slow reps 2 Wall Facing Flying Vee - 3 sets of 10 reps 3 Wall Scap Push - 3 sets of 10 reps with a pause .
