18.01.2022 We wish to inform everyone of the funeral arrangements for our esteemed member Emil Borlak. Emils funeral will be held on Friday 17th July at 10.00am at Peter Elberg Funerals, 280 Grange Rd, Flinders Park. The funeral facility can accommodate up to 120 people so the Slovenian community is welcome to attend.

16.01.2022 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a much loved member of our Slovenian Community, Hans Jakob Kettler. Born Duisburg, Germany on 5th January 1932. Died Adelaide, Australia on Friday 11th September 2020, aged 88 years.... Hans emigrated to Australia 17th April, 1954. Married Milena Kogoj 8th April, 1961. Loving husband of Milena. Much loved Dad of Linda and Paul, David and Lisa. Loving Opa of Matthew and Rebecca, Jeremy and Hayley, Jennifer, Samuel, Elijah and Hugh. Loving brother of Werner and Irene, Wolfgang and Sonja, and Friederich (deceased). Long time member of Slovenian Club Adelaide, which he enjoyed being part of, including contributing his time as Club secretary 1999 2001. Hans was well known for his BBQs and together with another fellow Slovenian member, Hans, they formed a formidable team known as the TWO HANS ! Hans will be loved and remembered always by his relatives and friends in Germany, Denmark, Slovenia, Italy and Australia, especially here in Adelaide where he will be very much missed by all. Funeral details: Monday 21st September at 2pm at Harrison Funerals 63 Golden Grove Road, Ridgehaven There will be plenty of room at the venue which means that physical distancing can be observed. Committee election procedures will be held. Ballot papers have been mailed out to all financial members and can either be returned as per instructions or deposited in the ballot box at the Slovenian Club up until the commencement of the AGM. Dinner: Roast chicken and salad will be available for $12 and served once the AGM is finalised. COVID19 safety procedures will be followed.

04.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed member Emil Borlak, who passed away tragically when a fire broke out in his home in the morning of July 1, 2020. His life to end in such circumstances is devastating. Emil was a highly valued member of the Slovenian community in Adelaide and he will be very much missed. Emil was born in Celje, Slovenia, and he arrived in Australia in 1950 where he would spend the next 70 years of his life. Emil was an activ...e contributor at Slovenian Club Adelaide, serving on the committee over the years, and he will be most remembered as a singer in Slovenian Choir Adelaide of which he was a member for the past 27 years. Singing was a great passion of his and his eyes would light up and there would be a smile a mile wide as he was about to burst into song. Emil was also a chorister in the Slovenian Catholic Church choir for many years. Emil was a cheerful and jolly person, vibrant, and a lot of fun to be around. There was always a lot of laughs and good times to be had in his company. Emil will be dearly missed by the Slovenian Community in Adelaide and by all those who knew him. Our condolences go out to his family. See more
