23.01.2022 Global Goals Australia Campaign asked "Do you support Australia's commitment to achieving the Global Goals both domestically and internationally?" I have reviewed the goals, and they mostly appear to be feel good statements that are easy to agree with, and commit to, whilst people may have vast disagreements on how to achieve the goals. Some comments on how the Liberal Democrats would help achieve the goals:... The world is well on it's way to reducing poverty, the first goal, having halved extreme poverty from 1980 - 2000, and then halved again from 2000 - 2010. The Liberal Democrats strongly support economic development and free trade, including free movement of workers and capital investment, all of which have made a strong contribution to the reduction in world poverty. Other goals, such as reducing inequality, have already been achieved on a global scale (with global inequality peaking in the 1970s), again largely due to an increasing free markets. For many of the goals, such as health and education, Australia is a prosperous country and has already attained such goals. Through support for greater free trade (including workers and capital and free enterprise), other countries can be raised to similar standards that Australia enjoys. On affordable and clean energy, the Liberal Democrats support removing the ban on nuclear energy in Australia -- nuclear is affordable, has zero emissions, and is the safest form of energy generation. The Liberal Democrats believe in equality before the law, and that people should be treated equally by the government irrespective of sex, race, religion or membership of a demographic group. Some of the goals sound good, but are unclear what exactly they mean. e.g. "Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns". With a free market, production will be sustainable -- if it is not then, absent government intervention, companies that produce in an unsustainable manner will fail and be replaced as capital moves to business that is sustainable. Cases where this does not occur are seen where there is excessive government intervention in markets, attempting to force them to unsustainable situations, as has been seen in countries such as the USSR, Venezuela, and North Korea. The Liberal Democrats are opposed to government control that could lead to unsustainable markets. Finally, the goal of "Life below water" sounds good, especially if it is in international waters and outside the control of a government bureaucracy, although I am not if this is what is meant. 23.01.2022 The Liberal Democrats will support your digital rights. Not shown in the table, but our policy on Copyright and Patents would implement more extensive reforms than just fair use. Also missing is a column on electronic currencies, where the Liberal Democrats' monetary policy explicitly supports digital currencies, such as Bitcoin (and you can even pay for membership or donate to the Liberal Democrats using Bitcoin). See more at: http://digitalrightswatch.org.au//06/10/federal-election-2

22.01.2022 If elected the Liberal Democrats will block the planned changes to superannuation.

22.01.2022 Note that Freedom of Speech means the government should not be allowed to censor what you say; it does not mean that anyone has to actually listen to you, or that you can force others to give you a platform, and if what you say is garbage, then Free Speech also means other people have a right to call you out on it. One of the party principles of the @Liberal Democrats is personal responsibility -- it should not be the threat of jail that stops bad speech, but your own sense of personal responsibility. Society, not the government, certainly has the right to respond by refusing to listen. Insulting or offending others makes you a dickhead; you shouldn't go to jail for it, but don't expect other people to like you.

21.01.2022 Cut wasteful spending and balance the budget. Welfare should be for the truly needy -- not for families earning $240,000.

20.01.2022 The Liberal Democrats have today pledged that if elected they will introduce legislation that would free taxi drivers and ride sharers from the obligation to fill out the blizzard of paperwork required by our outdated tax laws, while their revenue is less than $75,000. If you are a taxi driver or a ride-sharing driver who is fed up will all the red tape, vote for the Liberal Democrats.

17.01.2022 The Liberal Democrats will defend your digital rights.

14.01.2022 In the contest between free speech and censorship, the Liberal Democrats are unashamedly on the side of free speech.

14.01.2022 Thousands of pages of new regulations are introduced every year in Australia. The ever-growing maze of red tape particularly hurts small businesses, and drives ...up the cost of living for consumers, but the major parties just keep adding more regulations every year. The below video gives the example of over-regulation in the trucking industry, which was destroying the jobs of owner-drivers. The Liberal Democrats believe in reducing regulation, getting the government off the back of truck drivers and everybody else, so that you can make your own decisions.

09.01.2022 Nuclear is the safest form of energy generation.

09.01.2022 Lockout laws* start tomorrow (1 July) Queensland - this is a taste of what you can look forward to. Venues have already started closing, as they know the effects of loss of business that happened in Sydney. Labor brought these in for Queensland, and the Coalition brought them in for Sydney -- both need to go. * Except for the casino, of course - just like Sydney. Bit of a coincidence?

03.01.2022 Political promise generator: http://ldp.org.au/spending There is one big disadvantage to being in a fiscally responsible party -- the major parties seem to come out with a new spending promise every single day of the campaign. Of course, what they promise doesn't magically appear out of nowhere; what they are really promising is to take your own money and spend it for you. Every single big promise they make now, is going to be added to the bill they present to you later (and... pay for through tax). The Liberal Democrats won't do this; but they will promise to let you keep your own money, so you will have more to spend however you want (not how the politicians decide).
