25.01.2022 "It's hot... like proper, sweat dropping from the ceiling, your clothes are completely drenched - fucking hot. Capacity is 180, but looking out on the crowd, I'm pretty sure its somewhere close to double that. I've run down stairs to look for a solution as Mihai Popoviciu is just drenched in sweat. Everyone is locked around him, hands in the air, you can feel the pressure as everyone in the booth and the floor is just feeding off of him. I've brought up the only (and the chea...pest) fan I could find into the booth (somehow without taking anyone's eye out). The relief I see on Mihai's face as I emerge with the fan shows his approval. I plug the fan in. It barely starts to spin before the front grate falls off, breaks the plastic fan into a squillion bits and flies all over the booth.. .... 23.01.2022 "This last week and a half has been somewhat of a whirlwind and it’s still spinning but i’m taking a moment now to reflect a little before we get to the madness of these last two parties tonight and tomorrow.. There aren’t many venues or teams that I would so easily move countries to be a part of.. But Slyfox was exactly that, almost 2 years ago.. An intimate, forward thinking, music focused venue with excellent sound and atmosphere but above all, filled always with amazing p...eople on both sides of the bar and the booth. The experience of running this place and the friends i’ve made along the way is something that will stay with me forever and there are a million thank you's to say to many of you and I hope I get that chance over this weekend In particular i want to give a couple of public shout outs to the people that have shaped my own experience of it all.. Luke Marshall for the original invitation and getting me here in the first place.. "Kerry Wallace and Brett Strauss for the all faith, support and guidance along the way.. It definitely had its ups and downs, with one such occasion having me somehow back on the tools and the barrow, ripping open the stage and filling it with 3 tonnes of sand in a soundproofing attempt, only to find out half way through we had a few hours to get it done cause Gang of Youths were coming to play a surprise show... st...ill owe you for saving me that day Jono Friend Besides regular grooming of the Fox herself, I dove into the deep end of being a pencil pusher and learning from the sidelines how to run a seriously good small venue, with awesome staff, no compromise on sound, no compromise on equipment and an emphasis on creating a comfortable space for everyone. Sly has opened doors for me and many others so its tragic to see them have to close theirs but we have two last chances to give her the send off she deserves, this Friday and Saturday. It saddens us greatly to inform you all that SLYFOX, the Inner Wests late night music venue over the past 30 years will shut its doors on Saturday the 18th January 2020. We have fought long & hard over the last few years, especially over the last 6 months against horrific lies from local residents & arguably unlawful tactics, of the Inner West Council.... Its easy in sad situations like this when the small guys like us are targeted, to be negative when having to announce to the public the unfair closure of your venue, extreme loss of personal money & hard work from a huge number of people to supply entertainment to the surrounding residents & beyond. So besides the above, were going to keep this announcement positive. Wed like to first of all thank the majority of the surrounding residents/Innerwesties, SLYFOX regulars & the sheer thousands of dancers for being a part of this amazing little live music venue over the last 4 years, we wouldnt have lasted this long without you regularly attending the venue, you were the life of this venue thank you so very much. Wed like to thank the thousands of djs, promoters, bands, improv performers, comedians, yogis, market stall holders & fund raisers, without you SLYFOX wouldnt have had the entertainment the people in the area loved so much & enjoyed on a weekly basis. Wed like to thank our dedicated staff/owners for their dedication & hard work in the venue for the last 4 years of operation, it hasnt always been easy, but weve made friendships & memories that will last a lifetime & no council will ever be able to take that away from us thank you all so very much. * LAST CHANCE TO DANCE * To anyone who has seen their favourite dj play, met a new friend, celebrated a birthday, watched a favourite band, chuckled to a comedian, connected with a random at the bar, had a mad solo late night out, high fived one of our bar staff, had a laugh with our security or simply danced the night away, we ask you to join us for ONE LAST DANCE to celebrate our 4 years over the next 2 weeks of events to farewell this venue into the history books. 01.01.2022 "SLYFOX was where I had my first gig djing. During a lock in I jumped on the decks while they were free and mixed a few tunes together. After which Kerry (surprised I had a clue at all what I was doing) shook my hand and said he would find a gig for me. A week or so later, he called me and said hed found my first ever slot and teased me with a "ready for it?" Before telling me Id be opening the S.A.S.H vs SLYFOX edition featuring Romanian house Don Mihai Popiviciu. Within h...alf an hour of playing, the venue was completely packed, it was a sweatbox in there, and behind me in the that immersive dj booth i must have had forty or so of my closest friends to share a mind blowing moment for me.
