25.01.2022 This Saturday is our final event of the year, Bend and Brunch! We are holding a yoga class at 9am with the amazing Courtney McArthur and afterwards at 10am we are enjoying a delicious cooked brunch. All proceeds go to our charity for December (who we are also donating gifts from our Wish Tree) - Parkerville Children and Youth Care.... 24.01.2022 Our final event of the Year! BEND AND BRUNCH!! Come down for a Saturday morning yoga class followed by brunch with the team. All the proceeds of this event will be donated to our Christmas Charity! Parkerville Children and Youth Care. We also have a gift drive to donate to the children so their Christmas can be a little brighter this year.

23.01.2022 Drop the tunnel vision. If you are focusing too much on certain aspects of your health and fitness, this can lead you to be blind and neglect other areas of your life. Nothing in life is separate.... So we can't separate our health and fitness from our lifestyle. We need to make everything in our life work together as one. AND, we need to consider that everything in our body needs to work as one. So most people's biggest blind spot is they aren't taking a holistic approach to life. They may be physically fit, but emotionally unhappy. They may eat well, move well and sleep terribly. They may eat the right amount of nutrients on paper, but it's all preserved fake food. You get my point. We want you to enjoy living your life and have a body that matches that. So take a look at all areas of your life, and all aspects of your body and identify some minor steps you can start ASAP to begin your holistic health journey. Need help with this process? 18.01.2022 It is a common myth that you must do lots of cardio exercise to outexercise your diet to see fat loss.While yes, to lose body fat you do have to be in a calorie deficit (the calories you eat are slightly less than what you burn) its not as simple as burning calories through running or lots of cardio. Cardio is very important and has its place, it is important for heart health, fitness and circulation, but if you JUST do cardio, you won’t see as much change in your body co...mposition as if you prioritise strength training. While you will be able to lose body fat with cardio training and a calorie deficit, you will end up a smaller size of the shape you are, while many people are actually looking for muscle definition and tone with their body composition goals. This comes from strength training, where you build muscle.Strength Training also has a higher EPOC (Exercise Post Oxygen Consumption) or afterburn effect. This means that after strength training your body burns more calories to recover and repairing and rebuilding muscle tissue PLUS muscle tissue needs more calories to sustain so you are burning more calories at rest. If you’re wanting to get more bang for your buck in regards to shaping your body, strength training is where it is at! Too much cardio can also increase your stress hormone cortisol which can have a negative impact on fat loss. It is good to have a balance of cardio and strength training in your training program as a healthy way to reduce body fat and then maintain your results.



18.01.2022 Stop living with back pain! Too many of us suffer from daily pains in our backs, restricting us from doing the things we love, and adding to the already stressful lives we lead. And ALOT of these people have just gotten used to this, not realising that change is possible.... I have personally helped many individuals reduce and completely eliminate back pain who didn't think it was possible. Before you give up, you have to realise there are so many factors that can contribute to low back pain. There are so many muscles around the hip and spine region, and if some of these muscles are stiff, weak, or imbalanced this can heavily impact the way our back feels. Then we need to also consider the other factors that contribute to pain: - Inflammation in the body from poor health and nutrition - Stress levels from relationships, finances, emotions etc. - Poor movement habits during the day In other words, if you haven't looked at this problem and focused on it consistently, then OFCOURSE you are still in pain. Don't look for quick fixes. Pain is your bodies request for change. Listen to this request, and do something about it. You deserve to be pain free and enjoy life. We have been working together for nearly 3 years and I couldn't be more proud of a client taking the reigns of life into her own hands and pushing for better. Thank you Jack. This evening my BP was 128/75 with pulse of 48. Almost back to my 'normal'. The drop in BP etc is also a result of better choices. Saying no more often to avoid taking on too much. Not allowing others to 'have power' over me by insisting I do things I do not agree with. Taking a break from uni and having support with triathlon training from the hills Triclub. Having such wonderful support from family and friends plus the thoughtful and personalised support from you and others at SMA. If someone like me with an old mountain bike, mediocre swimming and cannot do much was accepted, anyone can. It is really for those of us who enjoyed riding bikes, swimming and running about as kids to justify doing the same now we have grown up. Being with passionate people who enjoy seeing each other succeed and move on is the key. I'm still only riding up to 30k at around 22kph, swimming about 1km now but breaking up the strokes to protect my shoulder and add in endurance and can really only run 1 km but building on that slowly. They have given me the strength not only physically, but also mentally. Before joining SMA and PowHerful, I was hopping from one gym to another in search for a community that supported holistic health.... Luckily, I found SMA where I was trained by Kirsty in the boot camp classes. I wanted to amp it up through her personal training and found that her PowHerful program suited my working schedule.
