25.01.2022 You know that your pituitary gets larger in pregnancy? Also, the HPA (hypothalamus pituitary adrenal) axis adjusts towards significantly lowered stress. You have more estrogen and progesterone in pregnancy than in the whole rest of your life put together, with associated seratonin and good feelings. Let’s translate that as: nature is bent on you feeling good, relaxed and secure during pregnancy. ... It’s your basic state. ! Aaaand ... there are life’s stressors and apparently a whole new set of things to worry about now there’s a little one involved. Luckily your intuitive capacity is greatly enhanced right now (think big fat pituitary/third eye!) and, in a few simple steps, it’s easier than ever to find your way back to a good, cozy state again. In an even tighter nutshell: You’re just so wonderful! Photo by Torsten Manger on Flickr #magicofpregnancy #naturalstate #pregnancyyoga #prenatalyogaperth #smallblessingsyoga #lifesnaturalmiracles

25.01.2022 Filling your cup Sit cross legged or in a chair with feet flat on the earth. Raise your arms up to 60 degrees. Sit up straight. ... Flex your palms up to the heavens. Feel the earth beneath you. Breathe long, slow and deep. Focus at your brow point. Inhale with Sat. Exhale Naam. Soften your shoulders and face. Let the breath slowly fill the cup in your heart. So much so that it can eventually overflow. Keep breathing. Go through the growing pain of the exercise. Stay with it. Breathe. You can do it. You are stretching and activating heart and lung meridians so you can take in more breath and feel more alive, joyful and loving. Keep up for 3 minutes. Inhale stretch, really stretch the arms, hold, stretch the spine, lift and elevate .... exhale, release the arms down. Just relax and be. Take a little time to integrate it before moving on peacefully and unhurriedly. 24.01.2022 Look at that!

23.01.2022 Johanna’s birth ... continued On my way to where I wrongly thought the toilet was, in a state of lightness and euphoria, a new sensation came on. A sense of needing to bear down, powerful and undeniable.... I made my way instinctively over to a chair, took hold of the back of it, curved my lower back and puuuuushhhhhed. As I did this, I peed on the floor. I really was in a state of not caring, however. The feeling of rightness was too overwhelming. So after that push I slowly circled back round the room, which was in fact the foyer of the birth house, again, returning to my chair when I felt the next surge coming. And then again, same posture, puuuuuush, pee. I don’t know how many of these rounds I did, but it was working for me beautifully. I was just aware enough, had just enough decorum to be glad the floor was parquet and also to return to the same place each time, so I wasn’t peeing everywhere. #primalyetconsiderate This is just so satisfying, I was thinking. Liberating. Powerful. Full of its own common sense. To be continued. #johannasbirth #birthstories #smallblessingsyoga #borninberlin #johannadeva #birthpreparationperth #vbac #vbacperth #feraberlin

22.01.2022 Next cycle of Mama Baba Yoga starts October 15th Thursdays 9.30am to 11am Yoga on Harris, Palmyra ... For women with babies aged 7 weeks to approx 1 year Small Blessings Mama Baba Yoga is postnatal yoga where your baby comes with you. She or he is at times on your lap or in your arms (especially for the littlest babies), or beneath you as you move and breathe, lying next to you or exploring the space. You get to move, stretch and release sore and tight muscles, gently and in a common sense way build pelvic floor and abdominal strength, nourish your nervous system and increase your vitality. As well as being a supportive and nourishing space to find more calm and contentment, each class begins with a short sharing from me on an aspect of the teachings for motherhood and/or a question to reflect on. This aspect of class acknowledges that you are in a time of life in which you are learning a lot and changing and growing as a person. So we provide enrichment and support on this level too. If you have questions or concerns, get in touch. If you’re concerned your baby won’t be quiet and this is the thing that would stop you, then just know that NO baby is always quiet in class!! The ebbs and flows of various states of quiet and loudness are a part of it. You and your baby are welcome just as you are. And in fact, learning to be okay with all kinds of expression and moods is one of the gifts that this class has to offer. 20.01.2022 Warm water can be of enormous help to a birthing woman. Some hospitals in Victoria are currently banning the use of water during birth because of a feared risk of Covid infection, however this risk is unsubstantiated by evidence. 19.01.2022 This Yogi Tea recipe is iconic. If you like me don't really get turned on by herbal teas, this tea is something else entirely. It's spicy, sweet, rich, nourishing and fun to drink. Especially if you're avoiding caffeine but are after a little warming stimulation from your beverage...... Excellent for any time, but especially pregnancy and MOST especially in the postpartum time. "The Ayurvedic dosha of Vata dominates after birth and so the sweetness of the earth element and the warming, fire quality of the spices help balance you out." Full recipe here: http://www.smallblessingsyoga.com.au//Nourishing_Yogi_Tea/

18.01.2022 Known as the miracle mantra, Guru Guru Wahe Guru Guru Ram Das Guru can heal many wounds. Gu means darkness or hindrance and Ru means light and the removal of hindrances. Ram Dass is a saint who lived in India in. His life was an example of selfless love, service and compassion.... He was a living, historical person, yet the vibration and spirit of Guru Ram Dass is as alive now as ever. It is a state of consciousness that can be called upon. So when you need healing when you want to pour a blissful vibration into yourself and your child when you want to uplift the atmosphere of your home play the mantra (so many beautiful versions available, discoverable by the grace of google) Sing the mantra Teach it to your children. #smallblessingsyoga #pregnantinperth #gururamdass #miraclemantra #blessthechildinthewomb #prayerofthemother #consciousparenting

18.01.2022 When babies cry, this can feel distressing to us. It can reactualise old experiences, perhaps from our own babyhood, of feeling abandoned and afraid. Or maybe our crying was suppressed and made not ok by our parents, whose own crying as a baby was not well met. Crying in babies is natural and even healthy. And every time it’s an opportunity for the mother to heal a little more and seed a more connected and secure future in the way she genuinely calmly meets her baby. In mama... baba yoga classes I bring the ethos that this is so. Sometimes it will get loud with crying and that is ok. First priority is to yourself relax, so you can respond more wisely to your baby rather than react and perpetuate a pattern. It’s not easy, but it’s certainly a possibility. And I find yoga, breathing, meditation slows us down enough that it can become totally doable. That’s why, to me, mama baba yoga is about way more than exercise and cute babies. It’s a contribution to the healing of humanity, one little interaction at a time. With love and understanding, Jai Ram

17.01.2022 Here we go again. Strengthen gently. Lift and open up your posture. Energise. Renew. Relax deeply. Meditate. Clear and refresh. In supportive company. Each class has a theme and a topic from the teachings of Kundalini Yoga and other wisdom sources. Singing, some baby yoga and massage are included, as and when appropriate. A whole package to enrich you, body, mind and spirit. The babies adore it too Still a few spaces to join from tomorrow. 17.01.2022 Ayurvedic understandings underpin many of the lifestyle teachings of Kundalini Yoga, including what we suggest does a woman good to eat in the postpartum time. Julia Jones of Newborn Mothers has great info about this and also a great cookbook called Nourishing Newborn Mothers. Here she sings the praises of Ghee, which I also love.

17.01.2022 Beautiful service provided by Pregnancy and Postnatal Hub.

15.01.2022 Tomorrow we begin! Back in person at the studio in Palmyra. Mama Baba Yoga. 9.30am to 11am... There are still a few spaces free and you and your baby are very welcome, just as you are. To book, go here >> http://www.smallblessingsyoga.com.au/classes

14.01.2022 This morning I dubbed our house Blackwood Farm. Farm is a bit of a stretch, but a name is something you can grow into. I love to turn sand into soil. It’s a bit of a passion... ok maybe obsession. And the little fruits and veggies are my babies.... In the foreground here is a strawberry. Will I pick it today? Is it really truly ripe? Patience patience. Much like a baby that comes when it is really truly ripe. It’s a beautiful thing to be in harmony with nature’s rhythms. #smallblessingsyoga #thankgodforsmallblessings #homefarm #blackwoodfarm #fromlittlethingsbigthingsgrow #pregnancyyoga #mamababayoga #yogaforwomen

14.01.2022 You, woman, are an expression of natural laws. Forces of nature. G - generate or also CONCEIVE O - organise or also GESTATE D - well, DELIVER ... Which means, too, that what you conceive you must deliver. Can’t stay pregnant forever! And... Our children don’t belong to us and we conceive, nourish and sustain them so that they can step by step become independent of us. So we are constantly delivering them beyond us. That’s the gig. Pretty amazing. Bitter sweet. #godisawoman #generateorganisedeliver #smallblessingsyoga #pregnancyyoga #postnatalyoga #consciousparenting #familybirthingcentre #hypnobirthing

13.01.2022 You’ve heard about intuition, you want to be more actively intuitive, but how does that actually work? Well, if you’re honest, you get many signals from your body about what you DON’T want. About what is not good for you. In pregnancy especially this is very pronounced. You know what foods smell bad and you just can’t eat them. You know what company feels wrong to you. You know what environments feel wrong. So being intuitive is often a case of knowing what you don’t want. I...t’s illumination by elimination. What you’re left with after this elimination is a simplification, an illumination of what is right and true for you. As my teacher says, there is no how. The no is the how. It’s the know how of the no. So we’re practicing a method of knowing and intuiting that starts with No this 4 week cycle of pregnancy yoga. To get a methodology that is more reliable. To get a confidence that comes from being able to trust yourself and your inner compass. But, to be honest, this no also has a shadow. While the negative mind is a source of instinctive wisdom, an unpurified negative mind is full of fears, doubts and resistances. It’s full of buts. The first reaction to anything new is No. Out of fear. Out of past experiences that have made us defensive. And that keeps us closed to newness and possibility and growth. So it’s excellent to be aware of that and that’s what we work on too: through breath, awareness and meditation recognising and cleansing these shadowy fears so we are more clear and conscious in our choosing in the present. Therefore better able to distinguish between a pure no and a shadowed no. What an amazing process! What incredible learnings these babies bring with them! You can still join this 4 week pregnancy yoga cycle from next Saturday 20th June. And we will start again with a 10 week cycle in term 3. Bless your day and weekend Jai Ram #powerofno #smallblessingsyoga #birthpreparation #journeyofmotherhood #karamkriya #intuition #instinct

13.01.2022 Sa Ta Na Ma The mantra Sat Naam is at the heart of Kundalini Yoga. It means Truth is my Identity. When split into its atoms it’s:... Sa - infinity Ta - Life Na - Death Ma - Rebirth When you become a mother you enter the cycle of life in a very immediate and intimate way. There are many challenges and growth opportunities along the way. How deep is your inhale (Sa and Ta), your embracing of the journey and the life force that flows through you? How complete is your exhale (Na and Ma) and your willingness to let go, to trust and surrender, feeling safe to do so? Inhaling long, slow and deep while chanting silently Sa Ta Na Ma; exhaling fully and completely, letting go, silently chanting Sa Ta Na Ma, helps you discover in yourself where you might be reluctant to fully live or are afraid to let go. You feel it in a difficulty to breathe fully, either in or out or both. Or sometimes too much control of the whole process, which creates too much tension. You can then explore beliefs that might be leading to this expression in the breath. Change your breath, change your mind. Change your mind, change your breath. So you can fully, powerfully, joyously, courageously live and breathe and be. How powerful. This and many other intelligent lessons in Small Blessings Yoga classes. #satanama #smallblessingsyoga #motherhood #cycleoflife #humanology #kundaliniyoga #pregnantinperth #pregnancyyoga #mamababayoga #yogaforwomen #jairamkaur

12.01.2022 I am at home in my self. For my baby, I am home. Sit in Easy Pose (or Sukhasana, pose of pleasure) with a straight spine and close your eyes. Lay one palm over your heart centre (centre of the chest) and one over your belly and feel the sensations of the palms on your body. ... Become aware of the flow of breath in and out of your nose. As you become aware of it, you may naturally find yourself wanting to breathe deeper and slower. Go with that. Allow the breath to deepen and on the inhale take it down to your belly, the home of your baby, and on the exhale let it rise up to your heart, the seat of the soul. Let your shoulders and hips soften and relax your face. Keep breathing between heart and womb and start breathing in with a silent Sat (truth) and breathing out with a silent Naam (is my identity). When thoughts, emotions or reactions arise just keep returning to the breath, the bodily sensations and Sat Naam. Continue for 3 to 5 minutes. You can do this at any time, but especially if you feel scattered or disconnected. It is a beautiful, simple way to connect with yourself and your baby and to feel at home in yourself. You can do it in a chair too, or lying down. It’s a lovely way to go into peaceful sleep or go back to sleep if you wake up in the night. 09.01.2022 A beautiful, simple, nourishing thing for the time following birth - almonds roasted in ghee (clarified butter). Best eaten first thing, before breakfast, they help the uterus shrink to its pre-pregnancy size. And they are SO yummy. One of my favourite memories of the postnatal time is sitting in bed eating these. ... Some basic instructions in the blog post. http://www.smallblessingsyoga.com.au//Roasted_almonds_in_/

08.01.2022 As a mother of teenagers now, I can vouch for the truth of what Janet Lansbury shares here. Though almost none of us experienced as children what she described, it doesn’t mean we can’t turn it around now. In fact, I believe it’s our deepest desire and an important part of what we’re here to do.

08.01.2022 Artwork by my now 17, spirited, artistically talented, fungus loving second child, Johanna. Her birth showed me how incredible it is possible to feel while birthing. It’s definitely up there with incredible feelings I’ve had. It was right after I’d had a nap, at the encouragement of my midwife. Just before that was transition. I’d been whining it’s not fair, it’s not fair, which as a total stoic is so uncharacteristic. But it’s so what needed to be at that moment. Ah, the ...magic confusion and chaos of transition. It can often be the storm before the calm before the mighty waves. So I stood up after my nap and at the suggestion of my midwife again that I might need to pee, I wandered off to where I (wrongly) thought the toilets of the birth house were. I felt incredible. Totally free of any pain. Ecstatic. Clear. Like, hang on, I thought I was giving birth. What happened to that? Is that off now? And then, out of this total hiatus, this still, this elation, they came. The pushing surges... I never did make it to the toilet. ... to be continued. #birthstories #smallblessingsyoga #pregnancyoga #pregnantinperth #birthpreparation #johannadeva #borninberlin #feraberlin

07.01.2022 Hello in there, little soul. Who are you? Where have you been and what awaits you in your life? What has made you choose me? I can’t answer these questions, but I can say that I absolutely commit to doing my best for you as long as I live. I will care for you and let you know you are loved. ... I will encourage you and raise you up. I will do my best to see you as you really are, not as who I think you are or should be. I’ll fall short of my aspirations sometimes. In fact, most days I will not meet that high bar. But you know what, it’s ok, because I am learning, just like you are. I will be honest to you and make it a habit to forgive. If I can teach you one thing, little soul, this would be one very good thing: Forgiveness. At the end of the day, I let go of whatever has stayed sticking. I spend a little time understanding myself and then I let any guilt go and smile on myself. I won’t carry it with me because that just makes things messy and actually increases the likelihood of that happening again. Whatever you may have done that I reacted to, I own that reaction and forgive you too, because I will not accumulate small moments of blame into a large ball of shame. Each day is to set free, As the next follows the last, So when each time I have to let you go to enter some new phase, I can do it with one smiling one crying eye. For that is the greatest gift of all, to feel all this immensity in my heart, not be able to understand it all and to let that love pain break open the limiting chains of my heart. I may be your teacher, but all of us are students in this big school of life. So welcome, little soul. Thankyou for choosing me. #kundalinipregnancyyoga #consciousconception #pregnancyyoga #pregnantinperth #mumsnbubsperth #mamababayoga #consciousparenting #smallblessingsyoga #forgiveness

06.01.2022 On pain and grace... "Every midwife knows that not until a mother’s womb softens from the pain of labor... will a way unfold and the infant find that opening to be born. Oh friend! There is treasure in your heart, it is heavy with child. Listen. All the awakened ones, like trusted midwives are saying, 'welcome this pain. It opens the dark passage of Grace." Rumi

05.01.2022 The depth to which you breathe is the depth to which you live. There is no stage of life in which it isn’t enormously helpful to focus on breathing deeply. Deep breath helps bring all body systems to an optimal, harmonious balance in pregnancy.... It expands the lung capacity, which helps in birth. It helps with healing after birth. It helps us stay calm when faced with stressful situations. Overall it helps us to stay present, feel our feelings and process our experiences. So we can relate more authentically, love more deeply and draw on the deep strength that lives inside. #breathedeep #consciouspregnancy #kundaliniforpregnancy #smallblessingsyoga #lifeskills #deepcommonsense #beinghuman #birthpreparationperth #pregnantinperth #mumsnbubsyoga #consciousparenting #continuumconcept #pelvicbowl #naturalparenting

04.01.2022 Remember your own soul. This is an old photo. Of Ilke, one of my very first pregnancy yoga students, back in Berlin in 2006. But it expresses beautifully the message ...... Remember your own soul. In a life of lots of service to others.. What do I really want? What do I really need. Making a habit of daily checking in with yourself. So as to include your self in the picture of your life. And deeper, your own soul. It often and easily gets forgotten. Don’t bury it so deep you forgot where you put it. Daily, hands on heart, honest truth. Remember your own soul. If you find you have trouble doing that, the open invitation is there to visit me for a consultation and healing conversation. You can reach me via a message. Consults available in person or Skype/zoom. 04.01.2022 Mother. A continuity. A community.

04.01.2022 You are the hub. You are the pivot. You are the centre of the universe for your family. Everything seems to revolve around you. Simultaneously you can feel like you don’t exist, like you’re disappearing. Like you’re invisible. That which everything revolves around IS often not seen. Weird. And a source of tension and conflict in many a partner relationship when a baby comes.... So .... A few things to hold close (things that helped ME through those early years and which are STILL guiding lights): You are YOU. And your children want YOU. Not somebody else’s version of mother. Your job as mother is very earthly, but it is very, very, very, very, very divine. Your value can never be measured, because it is infinite. Instead of circling around everyone else in your family, establish yourself relaxed on your throne (in your body, heart, mind and spirit) and let them circle around you. (PS yoga and meditation help a lot with cultivating this!) Photo Tania Lee Crow #smallblessingsyoga #youarethehub #motherqueen #empoweredmotherhood #kundaliniyogaformotherhood #humanology #teachings

01.01.2022 Johanna’s birth ..continued.. Back in the birthing room the surges continued. I remember standing against the bench and for each contraction bending my knees but with the toes of one foot pressing into the floor. Instinctually getting the baby into a good place. I was making incredible sounds like I’d never heard coming from me before. Sounds that could rend the universe apart to bring my baby through. We have one of these recorded on video, and it always brings tears to my e...yes to hear it, it’s so otherworldly and powerful. At some point the surges slowed. Since I have understood that this can happen towards the end. Patience is required. Normally all is well. It’s a gathering of strength. But the doctor who came for these final stages, who I liked and trusted and with whom I had a good relationship, became concerned. Only later did my midwife share this with me. I had energy enough to put into those surges and nothing else. So they pushed me along towards the end and I pushed without contractions. It was the hardest physical work of my life. They cut me a little, bit honestly at that stage i hardly felt it and was not concerned. Finally, I did it. Out she came. An incredible feeling. I was so relieved, so happy, so proud. And there she was: Johanna Deva. With her in my arms, at my breast, they stitched me up but also that didn’t bother me in my euphoria. Forever grateful to my midwife Manja who, back at the beginning of the pregnancy when we attended a talk at the birth clinic, responded with puzzlement to my question about them taking me on given I had had a Caesarian at that stage only 8 months ago. Why wouldn’t they? An attitude, a look of confusion at the right moment in the right context, can make all the difference. #vbac #feraberlin #birthstories #smallblessingsyoga #birthpreparationperth #pregnancyyoga #pregnantinperth #johannadeva
