"Belmont", a local heritage listed property, was built c1880 for Reverend Thomas Padman, (1815-1893), a lay Wesleyan preacher from Norfolk [photo B 42814]. It is believed that the original block, where "Belmont" is situated, occupied some 2.5 acres! Tho...mas Padman was an astute businessman who maintained a strong adherence to the Wesleyan Church. Thomas Padman's brother-in-law was the the Hon. George Marsden Waterhouse who was a Premier of South Australia from 8 October 1861 until 3 July 1863.
