24.01.2022 In light of Richmond FC's recent Grand Final victory over Greater Western Sydney, I thought it fitting to re-share a blog about the power that can come from taking on advice and stripping yourself bare. I wrote this entry two years ago right before Richmond’s last premiership win, their first in 35 years. Damien Hardwick was almost stood down as coach of Richmond in 2016 after finishing 13th on the ladder. Fifth from the bottom. At the time of writing this blog, he had just ...been named Coach of the Year. Many business lessons can be learnt from Damien’s change of approach, self realisation, and the culture he has created amongst his players and assistant coaches. The first and most powerful is his ability to stand back and scrutinise himself so honestly as a leader. Find out the five lessons you can learn from Damien’s experience and apply to your own life through the link below.

23.01.2022 Australians want to recycle and should be congratulated for it. It’s more than a feel good action, it is a responsible behaviour. It's easy to see the current business model around recycling is not working. Surely we have enough historical evidence and data to assess where the gaps are. Cost of transport, cost of sorting, local and international commodity prices all influence the viability or lack of viability around the current model. We know this. Just because we don’t h...ave the solutions today does not mean we should ignore the future. We have to, as our country is vast so transport will always be expensive and our labour costs are high compared with many overseas countries. Let’s lead the world and come up with new solutions. We have some amazing experts in this country. Where is the disruptive thinking coming from? It's time for us to not only own the impact our waste is having on the environment, but to be the vanguard of environmental progress. Innovation, energy and commitment to finding new solutions is crucial for our planet. Better still, we can create new industries providing more jobs. The closing of overseas recycling gates might be the best thing that has ever happened to us, as for the first time we will have to create a system that works. This can be one of our greatest opportunities if only we would be willing to see it this way.

21.01.2022 It has been declared we make up to 35,000 decisions each and every day. Given how many decisions we have to make on a moment by moment basis, it is easy to understand how our minds become rapidly overwhelmed impacting our performance. Where to start?... As we know life is about the choices we make. There are times where we know we should eat the apple, but grab the Kit Kat because it felt good in the moment. In my work I’m often asked how to best harness the decision-making process to provoke positive outcomes. Identifying the decision making styles we use on a daily basis is the first step into understanding how we cut through the overwhelm and move towards outcomes. In my latest blog, I explore how Frank Graff’s insightful decision-making styles and Mike Myatt’s decision-making frameworks can be used to create a Small Act that has a Major Impact.

19.01.2022 In my latest blog I explore the résumé and eulogy virtues. The résumé virtues are the skills you bring to the marketplace, while the eulogy virtues are those that are talked about at your funeral. Communicating with soul and leading with compassion are virtues that can be integrated in both your work and personal life. The two do not need to be mutually exclusive.... Read along to find out the four ways you can bring eulogy virtues into a resume built universe. Your Small Act that is sure to have a Major Impact in your work-life is to become aware of the character traits you want to infect the world with and enjoy the prospect of living your eulogy virtues in the workplace.

17.01.2022 The end of year raises many emotions for people. And while 2019 is not quite over, my final post for the year always has me reflect on the lessons I have learnt from my clients, friends, suppliers, family and the world around me. I wanted to have my final blog of the year be about personal branding and being authentic. When I suggest that people be authentic when building their personal brand, I often refer to Sisto Malaspina, one of Australia’s most loved icons who was tragi...cally killed in our beautiful Melbourne CBD just over 12 months ago. With his bright coloured jacket and signature cravat, Sisto became a Melbourne icon, not because of his media or social media activities, but because of his genuine love for his customers. When reflecting on how you want to build your brand in 2020, dig deep and think about who your customers are, how you can be of service to them and what you want them to be left feeling after they interact with you.

16.01.2022 Back in June Allied Health Magazine published an article I wrote sharing tips on how to Stay Robust in Uncertain times. With an absolute passion for the diverse range of carers in our community, now more than ever, we need to show our support to those working in the Allied Health Industry. And a big shout out to Chris McCarroll, who founded the Allied Health Magazine. In his own words, Chris identified the need for a wider audience and platform for health professionals to gain public awareness for the amazing and life-changing tasks they are undertaking all whilst still running their own businesses. 15.01.2022 Words aren’t anything, they’re everything. I recently had the chance to share this sentiment with The Business Woman media through an article discussing how corporate speak impacts your business. When it comes to business branding, we invest much time and effort ensuring that our tone of voice is aligned with our values in the communications we disseminate to the outside world.... Yet how much effort do you put into ensuring this same tone of voice is carried through to your internal team when communicating?

11.01.2022 I recently spoke with HR Daily about workplace language and the significant impact it can have on wellbeing and performance. The first step to shifting from negative to positive language is to be aware of the kinds of words you’re using in the workplace. A Small Act that can have a Major Impact is to replace ‘why’ with ‘how’.... To read the article in full, visit the HR Daily website: http://bit.ly/2MAQByB

10.01.2022 I had the opportunity to share some meditation techniques with the team at body+soul. While a focus on workplace happiness and wellbeing is becoming ubiquitous, the rise and use of meditation as a tool for high performance, clarity and stress management is fast becoming as rudimentary in its recommendation for wellbeing as running, good nutrition and regular health checks. It’s an incredible way to bring clarity to your workday.... For more information, please get in touch https://www.smallactmajorimpact.com.au/contact-2

09.01.2022 Sometimes you need to step away from your business to gain clarity. In Dr Kaufman’s The Psychology Podcast he interviewed authors Brad Stulberg and Steve Magness about their latest book Peak Performance: Elevate Your Game, Avoid Burnout, and Thrive with the New Science of Success. Their message strongly supports the value of taking time out to achieve breakthroughs. They refer to it as the Paradox of Rest.... The Paradox of Rest is that conventionally a lot of people think rest is a passive act and is something separate from their work, Stulberg said. People often think they are sacrificing work when they are resting when in fact your brain and body are extremely active when resting. It is often during rest that physical, physiological and emotional growth occurs. We shouldn’t consider rest as distinct or separate from the work that we are doing but rather we should think of rest as integral to doing good work. The often experienced chaotic roar of your internal dialogue can be managed and drowned out when you give yourself permission to rest. It will gift you the ability to be more creative, more productive and will energise you with greater clarity. A Small Act that is sure to have a Major Impact on you and your business is to actively build rest time into your weekly calendar.
